How Good Are Your Eyes? Cool and Quick Test

08:12
How good is your eyesight? Here’s a simple eyesight test that will show how sharp your eyes are. We all know that “eyes are the windows to the soul.” Do your windows need cleaning, or are they crystal clear and give a sharp picture of the world? Take this test to find it out! There will be 4 stages, and it will get harder and harder with every stage. The first one might seem like a piece of cake (and if you’re actually seeing a piece of cake we’ve got problems), but the further we go, the more concentration it will require. In fact, only 8 % of people can pass stage 4 because it is so hard. You will have the same task for every question in all the stages. The task is to pick 1 out of 10 colors which is different from the rest. To pass each of the stages, you have to find that odd one out in each task. If you fail once, you fail the entire stage. #vision #eyetest TIMESTAMPS Stage 1 Easy 1:11 Stage 2 Normal 2:23 Stage 3 Hard 3:53 Stage 4 Very Hard 5:29 Results 7:06 SUMMARY Congratulations to all superhumans out there who made it. Your eyesight is fantastic! 92% of people failed at this task, and you managed to rock it! There is a chance you are a tetrachromat. This smart word is used to define people who have more receptors in their eyes than others and can see more shades of different colors. Did you manage to make it through all 4 stages? If you failed, at what stage did it happen? Let’s discuss it in the comments section! 13 Things Aquariums Are Hiding From You

08:34
Do you like visiting aquariums? They are loved by many. They make it possible for people to get acquainted with marine creatures they would otherwise never see. Unfortunately, not everything is so bright about the very concept of aquariums and marine parks. When the documentary "Blackfish" came out, the image of such entertainment establishments underwent a serious damage. Visitors often have a misconception that trainers in aquariums are specialists in marine biology. After all, they have such extensive knowledge about these creatures! Totally wrong. People who interact with animals and participate in shows are only performers. They have no professional credentials about orcas or other marine animals. They’re simply hired to entertain the crowd. #dolphinshow #aquarium #dolphins TIMESTAMPS: Orcas are starved 0:45 People who work with orcas get killed 1:07 Orcas live shorter lives in captivity 1:51 Orcas have to live in tiny tanks 2:27 A collapsed dorsal fin isn't normal 3:17 Drugs are used on killer whales 3:52 Killer whales have problems with their teeth 4:25 Employees paint over the whales' sunburns 4:46 The trainers are not marine biologists 5:23 Captive orcas injure other animals 5:51 They artificially breed killer whales 6:20 Orcas are hurt by chlorine 7:08 Gelatin is used to keep orcas hydrated 7:37 Preview photo credit: Killer whale and trainer during a Shamu performance at Seaworld in Orlando, Florida: By Loadmaster (David R. Tribble), CC BY-SA 3.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=9576553 Animation is created by Bright Side. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Giving a treat is a typical approach while training an animal. But unfortunately, these treats seem to serve as usual food. Employees are instructed to keep the orcas hungry. - In the wild, male orcas live for 70 years, while the females’ lifespan is even longer: 100 years. But in captivity, orcas don't have a chance to enjoy a long happy life. In most cases, they die as teenagers, usually after they turn just 13 years old. - The tanks these animals live in are immensely small for them. In fact, the length of one tank is one-millionth of the distance an adult orca can cross a day in the ocean. - In the wild, only 1% of all orcas suffer from problems with their fins. And if they do, it means they're sick or injured. - If orca misbehaves or gets too excited, trainers force-feed it sedative drugs. - To prevent the public from asking questions about the change of color on the whales’ skin, trainers cover their sunburns with zinc oxide. This substance is black and does a good job at masking the horror. - People who interact with animals and participate in shows are only performers. They have no professional credentials about orcas or other marine animals. - When orcas live in captivity for prolonged periods of time, they become extremely aggressive. But they don’t just hurt the trainers; they fight each other and other animals as well. - Chlorine levels in tanks are way too high and damage the health of the animals kept in them. As a result of all the chlorine, killer whales have mucus running from their eyes and problems with their vision. My Owner Threw Me Away But the Miracle Happened

08:22
Hey there! Today's video is a bit unusual. You're gonna hear Charlie's story. Oh, at first Charlie's life was just amazing! He had everything he needed - tasty food, a warm house, love. But one day everything changed. One day... No, let him tell you himself. By the way, Charlie's a dog. It was getting even darker and colder, and I was really hungry. - Some of the humans just gave me a weird look and walked around me, others tried to pet me – I felt so scared and overwhelmed by the whole thing that I ran and hid in the first alley I could find! - To be honest, that was the most awful feeling in the world, and these two knew exactly how I felt. How could people we loved so much betray us like that? - Me, Rocky, and Oscar became best friends. Every morning every single one of us went in different directions to find something good like food or something to keep us warm at night. - One of our favorite spots to check for food was outside this little diner. Jenny and Michael sometimes went to places like that. One day a human lady noticed me waiting in the corner as she was throwing out some food. - I kept going back to that diner, and I found out that this lady was named Alison and she was a cook there. - One day, she looked at me and asked “Listen, buddy. Would you like to come live with me? You look like you really need a home.” - Alison and I live in the same neighborhood as the alley I spent my nights in, so I sometimes see my old buddies, Rocky and Oscar. Unfortunately, they’re still out on the streets because they haven't met their Alison yet. 7 Air Travel Tips to Know Before Your Flight

03:28
Many people who travel by airplanes don’t know about all of their peculiarities. These 7 amazing and simple tips will make you feel better and more comfortable during your flight. TIMESTAMPS The seats by the window are colder 0:21 Avoid drinking coffee or tea 0:49 Tables and seat pockets are the dirtiest places on the plane 1:12 Morning is the best time for a flight 1:44 The service is better in the final rows 2:06 Don’t inflate your neck cushion to full volume 2:33 Always go with a special menu 2:49 SUMMARY - The temperature outside the cabin can fall to as low as −140°F to −149°С, which cools down the temperature of the plane’s fuselage. You can feel this external cold above all in the seats by the windows, especially during summer when you wear light clothing. - Keep in mind: the drinking water used to prepare hot beverages onboard can contain malignant bacteria such as E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Specialists who have tested the water on various airlines have reached this conclusion on more than one occasion. - Pockets on the seat back in front of you are sometimes full of trash accumulated during flights. Yep, they aren’t cleaned as thoroughly as you would expect. When it comes to the tray tables, it’s even worse! - Later flights are usually delayed because of the ‘ripple’ effects of delays throughout the day. Moreover, if you have a fear of flying, specialists claim that a degree of turbulence is reduced in the morning. - If you sit in the first rows, you will be the first to leave the plane at the end of the flight as well as get a choice of meal. On the other hand, if you pick a seat closer to the back of the cabin, you’ll more attentive service from the cabin crew! - When you take a blow-up pillow onto the plane, don’t forget about the laws of physics! If you fill it with air completely, it might burst due to the changes in pressure in the cabin! - Airlines offer a choice of different in-flight meals such as vegetarian, seafood, halal, kosher, and many others. Even if you have no particular preference, many travelers recommend going for one of the specialist meal choices. Do you have a lot of friends who travel often? 10 Simple Tricks to Manipulate People's Mind

09:21
The development of psychology allowed scientists to study the biological processes in the human brain, emotions, behavior, and reactions. This information gives us an understanding of our own actions. It also makes it easier for people to control others. Do you ever wish that you could make people agree with you, like you, or remember you with a snap of your fingers? Believe it or not, it's actually possible — you just have to know a couple of tricks. They work on a subconscious level and help you win another person’s trust or get somebody’s approval. Bright Side will share 10 tips that work every time and can be useful in any situation. TIMESTAMPS: Mirror your opponent's body language to make them trust you 0:37 Use the word “because” to have it your way 1:27 Pause to give your words a bigger effect 2:45 Stay silent to find out more 4:02 Be the first or last one to make them remember you 4:40 Sit next to your opponent to receive less criticism 5:18 Ask someone for a favor to change their perception of you 5:57 Use contrasts to get what you want 6:57 Nod slightly to make someone agree with you 7:34 Draw a triangle with your eyes to stop the conversation 8:11 #psychologicaltricks #psychologicaltips Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - If you want someone to like and trust you, mirror their body language — especially their poses and gestures. The most important thing is to be smooth about it. - During a heated discussion, every opinion has to be heard, but only one will be chosen as the final one. If you want it to be yours, simply use the word “because” with your reasoning! - If you want them to remember what you said and really think about it, add a pause after the statement. This simple trick will help you put all the right emphases in your speech. - If you want to get everything out of another person, you shouldn't insist or be too demanding about it. Simply stay silent, and they'll tell you everything! - If you're doing an important interview, try to arrange things so that you’ll be the first or last person seen. - Let's say you know that your colleague or boss plans to lash out about your work skills at an upcoming meeting. How can you prevent a total disaster? Sit right next to them! - Ask someone for a favor to change their perception of you. This psychological trick is also known as the Benjamin Franklin effect. - One of the most popular psychological manipulation techniques is to ask for something way bigger than what you actually want. - To get the positive response you need, nod slightly while asking the question. Remember to maintain eye contact with your opponent! - Look your opponent in one eye, then in the other one, and then at their forehead. Keep “drawing” this triangle shape for the rest of the convo. They'll soon get the message on the subconscious level and say their goodbyes. The Story of the Hope Diamond Which Ruined Its Owners' Lives

08:32
The gemstone, which is now called the Hope Diamond, was formed deep within the Earth more than 1 billion years ago! It was originally used as one of the decorations of an Indian temple idol. But one day a Hindu priest decided it was far too beautiful and valuable to leave there and plucked it out. He was severely punished, of course, but the Hope Diamond was already out of the temple. “The King's jewel,” “The blue of France” - these are some nicknames for the most mysterious and seemingly dangerous gem in history. The selected few who were “lucky” enough to possess the famous Hope Diamond died horrific deaths. But in the beginning, nobody could foresee the trouble... Rumor also has it that Tavernier had a serious raging fever not long after he got the marvelous Hope Diamond. - The Hope Diamond curse got to King Louis XIV as well – he died suffering of gangrene. Moreover, all but one of his children didn't make it passed their childhood, though it wasn't that uncommon those days. - Both Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were executed by guillotine during the French revolution. The Hope Diamond was stolen from the Royal Storehouse shortly after. - A couple of years passed and the diamond was suddenly discovered in England. Well how did it get there? Several sources confirmed that it was actually owned by King George IV of the United Kingdom. - Evalyn Walsh McLean absolutely adored the Hope Diamond and wore it almost every single day. But the happiness didn't last long. First, Evalyn's mother-in-law died. Then her 9-year-old son was in a car accident, and didn’t make it. This broke her and her husband so much that he actually left for another woman and later died in a mental hospital. - Now the Hope Diamond weighs a little bit over 45 carats, still has its deep greyish-blue color, and even produces a dangerous red glow if you decide to expose it to short-wave ultraviolet light. - Despite the diamond's rich history, there are still heated debates as to whether it's actually cursed or not. Some people are sure that all the legends about the jewel's cursed origins were simply created to boost its popularity. - In 1911, the New York Times came out with a whole list of the diamond's supposed “victims.” The list consisted of about 14 people who died tragic deaths not long after possessing or even holding the Hope Diamond. So maybe it was simply a natural instinct for a whale to shield a helpless woman from a large, dangerous shark! - A boy had to spend the night outside. When he woke up the next morning, he was really surprised to see 3 wild beavers sleeping against him! The temperature had dropped below zero, so if it wasn't for them, the young boy would most probably have frozen to death. - One woman developed a cramp in her leg and found that she couldn't swim! The beluga whale in the tank noticed that something was wrong and grabbed the woman's leg, leading her to the surface and therefore saving her life. - Back in 2005, a terrifying event happened to a 12-year-old Ethiopian girl. She was walking home from school when 4 men abducted her. The police started looking for the girl right away, but they had almost no leads for over a week. Finally, they found the girl safe and sound in the company of 3 adult lions! - A young woman in Ohio was leaving a party at about 1 a.m. and decided to walk home on foot. An unknown man who grabbed her and hit her! He was just about to drag her into a field when he suddenly saw a deer who’d been woken up by the sounds of the woman struggling. This scared the man away, and he fled the scene immediately. - In 2004, the southwest coast of southern Thailand was hit by a horrifying tsunami. Among the people who tried to flee from the tsunami was an 8-year-old girl. An elephant carried her to higher ground on its back and protected her from the approaching waves. - A boy fell into a gorilla enclosure and passed out from a severe head injury. Jambo, one of the gorillas, instantly made it clear that the boy was protected, staying with him until zoo employees and medical workers arrived. - A mountain lion attacked a man. The man did his best to protect himself when the bear he'd been watching before suddenly attacked the lion. These 2 had a serious battle for some time until the lion fled as fast as it could. - In 1974, a 62-year-old woman found herself in a life-or-death situation when the ship she was on was wrecked. Nonetheless, she made it home alive — thanks to a giant sea turtle who came to her rescue! Luckily, their heavy woolen trousers are black enough to cover their embarrassment. - Since staying still for too long is bad for their health, every 10 minutes the guards leave their spot, turn, march several paces, then turn around, and go back to their place to stand still for the next 10 minutes. - The Queen's guards wear red jackets in spring and summer and long grey coats during the fall and winter months. The coats are long and warm enough to allow the soldiers to stay motionless for a long time. - If a superior notices a guard stretching his lips in a smile, the guard will face a fine of up to a week's pay! In most cases, the overly cheerful guard should be ready to part with about $260. - It turns out that when the drill boots stay in direct sunlight for too long, the polish on them starts to melt. It means that every time after their shift, the guards have to re-polish their footwear. - Hats made from the real fur are impressively heavy: one can weigh from 4.5 to 9 lb (2 to 4 kg). And when it rains or snows, the Bearskin collects all the liquid and gets even heavier! - To become one of the Queen's guard, you have to take the BARB, which stands for the British Army Recruit Battery test. It's a half-an-hour-long computer-based test which checks your problem solving, analytical, and logical skills. - The red color was chosen because the red pigment was one of the most available at those times. Also, this color needed only one stage in the process of dyeing. - If you’re lucky enough, you can hear them perform the Imperial March from Star Wars or even Indiana Jones and Game of Thrones theme songs! A Girl Survived 10,000 Feet Free Fall And 11 Days in the Jungle

08:33
When 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke finished her school, she went along with her mother to join her father at a research station in the Amazon rainforest. At about 21,000 feet, the plane got caught in the middle of a big storm. The cabin began tearing apart into pieces. Strapped to her seat and hanging head-over-heels she went into a 10,000 feet free-fall from the sky! #survivecrash #JulianeKoepcke Other videos you might like: 8 Tips from Pilots to Survive a Plane Crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYAAnkodumY What Would Happen If Plane Doors Opened? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S2_Plu0e2M& The Only Way to Survive in a Free Falling Elevator https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_HgPXgJ16I TIMESTAMPS: Airline with a bad reputation 0:28 Big storm 1:15 In the jungle 2:41 Down the river 3:46 Juliane finds a hut 6:18 How things ended up 6:59 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - The girl and her mother were really eager to leave Lima as soon as possible and fly to Pucallpa, which was the nearest city to that station, but almost all the flights were booked because of the holiday season. - After crossing the Andes at about 21,000 feet, the plane got caught in the middle of a big storm with constant thunder and lightning. - The fuel tank was ignited and moments later, one of the plane's wings was torn off. Before Juliane could understand what was happening, the airliner went into a nose-dive and the cabin began tearing apart into pieces. - She realized she was all alone in the middle of the jungle. In addition to that, Juliane’s collarbone was broken and she had several deep cuts on her arms and legs. Despite those injuries, she started moving, promising herself to get through this nightmare at all cost. - Juliane was actually pretty familiar with the jungle. because her father was a biologist who studied Amazon wildlife. She spent quite a lot of time with him at his research station and he taught her a lot of things about rainforest nature. - The girl just kept walking, despite scorching heat and hunger. It was rainy season in the Amazon, meaning that there was no fruit to pick. - So she swam in the river at day and went back to the shore at night to rest. But sleeping at night was no easy feat because insects kept biting her, making her injuries even more painful. - Juliane explained to three lumberjacks who she was and what happened to her. They treated her wounds and gave her something to eat. - Soon her father arrived, and they were finally reunited. While staying at the hospital, Juliane gave information to the researchers that helped them locate the wreck. Sadly, she was the only one who survived the crash. 19 Simple Psychological Tricks That Actually Work

07:48
Have you ever had to use psychological tricks to get what you want? There are a lot of psychological tricks and neuro-linguistic programming tips and there are millions of books and articles written about them. Many of these tricks really help professionals manipulate people and avoid being tricked by others. But are there tips that non-professionals can use on a daily basis? Psychology is a science with certain laws one cannot ignore. Modern marketing specialists, entrepreneurs, and even swindlers realize that. Bright Side offers a few psychological tricks you can use in everyday life to make it much easier and more exciting for you to reach your goals. TIMESTAMPS: #1 0:29 #2 0:58 #3 1:18 #4 1:46 #5 2:03 #6 2:17 #7 2:40 #8 3:06 #9 3:21 #10 3:36 #11 3:55 #12 4:20 #13 4:49 #14 5:19 #15 5:51 #16 6:04 #17 6:19 #18 6:38 #19 7:04 #psychologicaltricks #psychologicaltips #changelife Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Never start your request with the words "Could you..." It can cause the other person to subconsciously assume that this is a theoretical question - If you ever want someone to feel uncomfortable, look at the middle of their forehead during the conversation. - If someone you're talking to is trying to avoid answering a question, just make a pause in the conversation while still keeping eye contact. - When asking a question that you want an affirmative answer to, try to nod subtly as you make your request. This trick is often used by restaurants employees to make guests buy more food, and it’s pretty effective! - If a person is really concentrated on a task (let's say they're in the middle of a serious phone conversation), you can extend your hand to them and get anything they’re holding at the moment. - If you want somebody to do something for you, casually say how they probably wouldn’t even be able to do it. Most people will try really hard to prove someone wrong when it comes to doubting their capabilities. - Here’s a good one for negotiations. If you like a person's offer in general but would like to get better conditions, pretend to be a little bit disappointed. - As soon as your alarm clock goes off, sit up, make two fists, and yell "Yeah!" as if you’re a soccer player who's just scored a goal. It sounds bizarre, but it really does help you easily get out of bed feeling refreshed. - If a person tries to pull you into an argument or some drama, say something nice to them. The ol’ “kill ‘em with kindness” trick really does stop them in their tracks. - If you have that one lazy person on your team that slows the whole work process down, don't give them tasks by saying "Do this." It’s better to say "Start with this." - If someone is staring at you in the subway (happens all-too often, right?), just look at their shoes. Don't give up, keep gazing! It’ll drive them crazy! - If someone has done something wrong, but you don’t wanna sound too accusing, change the way you construct your sentences. - If you didn't get a good night's sleep, tell yourself that you did. I know, it sounds like nonsense, but it does work 100% if you say it with meaning! - People are better at remembering what happened at the beginning and end of the day. As for anything that went on in between, it gets blurry. One way you can take advantage of this is to use cloves as a headache remedy. - Cloves have certain elements like flavonoids, manganese, and eugenol that promote bone and joint health. - A study done at the University of Buenos Aires put cloves to the test against some pretty serious bacteria, like E. Coli and Staph. The research showed that clove oil was effective at killing off these bacteria. - Clove extract helped stop growing tumors and even caused cell death in several versions of human cancer cells. They included lung, breast, and ovarian cancer, as well as other types of cancers in their early stages. - Clove is great for people with blood sugar issues, like diabetes, because it acts like insulin inside the body. A One-Day Starvation Secret Got the Nobel Prize

09:34
You probably know that most tissues in your body regularly replace their cells with new ones. Different organs need their own time to renew completely. And some tissues don't replace their cells at all. But have you ever wondered where the dead cells of your body end up? Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi, a Japanese cell biologist, spent years studying how human cells get rid of their waste. If this process in the body doesn't work correctly, a person can develop type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, some age-related diseases, and even cancer. And it turned out that when you fast, your cells live longer and produce more energy! Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - The first person who discovered autophagy was Belgian biochemist Dr. Christian de Duve. For this discovery, he got the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1974. - Surprisingly, studies show that they still have approximately the same amount of proteins and carbohydrates in their digestive system as they would if they ate animal protein. - The body can use its own protein in the form of dead and damaged cells and bacteria which have been previously stored away. - If your natural recycling mechanism doesn't work, damaged cells and their parts start to accumulate in the body. And it ends up unable to neutralize cancer cells and cells infected by dangerous viruses and bacteria. As a result, this can lead to various serious illnesses. - Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi found out that autophagy gets more intensive when the body is undergoing some stress. Such stress can be fasting, calorie restriction, or even starvation. - In all his studies, Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi used starvation and fasting to encourage the body to break down toxic cells and get rid of all the garbage. - Intermittent fasting, which is alternating the periods of eating and fasting, can help your body to clean itself. Besides, it can help you to lose weight and speed up your metabolism. - If you're a newbie in the world of fasting and the practice looks a bit intimidating, start with skipping your meals. In general, it's enough to skip one meal a day to boost your metabolism and trigger cleansing processes in your body. Just remember that if you've skipped a meal, you shouldn't overeat at the next one. - One more interesting conclusion you can draw from this research is that, despite what some people think, vegetarians don't suffer from a lack of animal protein. They just get it in a different way. Mysterious Story of Frida Kahlo That Reveals Her True Character

Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - As a girl, she never had good health. At the age of 6, she was diagnosed with poliomyelitis. As a result of this infectious disease, Frida walked with a limp her entire life, and her legs were disproportionate – the right one was a little thinner than the left one. - It may have been the health problems that inspired Frida to become a doctor. She entered the best high school in Mexico called La Prepatoria in Mexico City. - At the age of 18, the future artist got into a terrible accident: she was traveling by bus, and a streetcar crashed into it. She broke her collarbone, two ribs, and her leg, crushed her foot and her shoulder was dislocated. - But, a strong spirit like Frida couldn’t be crushed. She was unconscious for several weeks, and when she woke up, she immediately asked her father to buy her art supplies. - Frida herself said: “There were 2 accidents in my life: one when a bus hit a tram, and the second was Diego.” She met Diego Rivera several years after the accident. - Diego was never a good husband. 2 of his previous marriages ended because he cheated. His third marriage was not a happy exception. - Frida became pregnant several times but all of her pregnancies ended with miscarriages because of that same unfortunate accident. Even after doctors recommended bed rest, Frida still couldn’t give birth to a healthy child, and she sunk into depression. - In 1939, after a painful divorce with her husband, Frida Kahlo created her iconic self-portrait “The Two Fridas”. It shows the two different sides of her character, connected by a vein and holding hands. - The artist created a total of 55 self-portraits, most of them were of herself surrounded by animals. She loved animals and had dogs, monkeys, parrots, and pigeons as pets. - In 1953, her leg had to be amputated because of gangrene. The same year, she had a personal exhibition in Mexico which she attended on her bed. - She felt that she would die soon, so she wrote in her diary, “I hope the exit is joyful. And I hope never to return.” Frida Kahlo finished her last work 8 days before her death. Why Intermittent Fasting Burns Fat Faster And for Good

09:53
How to Lose Weight and Belly Fat Fast. Intermittent fasting (or I.F.) is the most popular weight loss program today. How can you use it to drop a few pounds quickly and get the body of your dreams? Let’s answer the most important question here: is it possible for the human body to endure long hours of fasting on a daily basis? TIMESTAMPS Who created intermittent fasting? 1:15 Misconceptions about intermittent fasting 2:24 How can you split your day or week into an eating period and a fasting period? 3:31 What can you achieve with intermittent fasting? 6:39 Other health benefits besides getting the perfect body 7:09 Who shouldn’t try this eating pattern 7:43 How to make it more effective 8:10 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -It was popularized by the American writer Upton Sinclair in the 1900s. Sinclair practiced juice cleansing and fasting at the same time. -Intermittent fasting is not a diet plan but an eating pattern. With I.F., you don’t starve but still have to eat and drink, but it should be time-restricted. It’s not dangerous for you because it doesn’t leave you with no food at all for long periods of time. -You can try out one of the patterns: the 16:8 pattern, the 5:2 pattern, “Eat Stop Eat", Alternate day fasting, and The Warrior Diet. -Over the course of time, your body will eventually overcome the side effects. In the fasting period, your body will get the energy from burning fat. The longer you fast, the more fat is burned in the process. -It can prevent type 2 diabetes and promote insulin resistance. It is good for the heart. It may prevent cancer. It improves brain function. -Children and teens, people with diabetes, low blood pressure, underweight, pregnant, breastfeeding, or people trying to conceive should consult a doctor before trying it out. -You should also remember that you can’t lose weight through intermittent fasting alone. It is also safe to exercise while fasting , but it takes time to adjust to it. Sacrifices must be made: saying goodbye to your favorite greasy foods or not eating from time to time. She was still kept under house arrest for almost a year, though. - Elizabeth’s predecessors died before they could produce an heir, so she took the throne. - Once she became queen, Elizabeth’s advisors started a campaign to make flattering portraits of her. Later on, these depictions would include details of classic goddesses like Venus or Diana. - Elizabeth was adamant that she wouldn’t marry any man in her lifetime, and she stood her ground. After all, she was a dedicated leader married to her country. - Being the Virgin Queen didn’t prevent Elizabeth from becoming the subject of all kinds of rumors. One of the most viable was that she was in love with her lifelong friend Robert Dudley. - She was very, very elaborate about her looks, and spent over 4 hours a day getting ready! Not only did she want to look immaculate, she also had other ways to stand out in a crowd… - While the Queen herself was always shining in her beauty, she required her ladies to only wear black or white, making them pale in comparison. - When she was young, she was gorgeous. Well, she used her position as the Queen to the fullest in that respect. - Despite the fact that her mom, Anne Boleyn, had been executed, Elizabeth loved her dearly, albeit secretly. What's Graphene And Why It'll Soon Take Over The World

11:18
What is graphene? What is it used for? The most amazing thing about this semi-metal of the future is the fact that you can produce it yourself in your living room! What is graphene, and why is it so amazing? One of the things that makes graphene so cool is that it’s the thinnest material you can imagine. It's just one atom thick! This means this material is mathematically 2-dimensional. And you can still hold this single layer of atoms in your hands! Surprisingly, graphene isn't a unique or rare substance. In fact, it has the same carbon structure as the graphite you use every day when you draw or write with your pencil! But at the same time, in 0.03” of graphite, there are about 3 million graphene layers! TIMESTAMPS: Why graphene is so amazing 1:05 How graphene was discovered 1:48 How expensive graphene is 2:15 What the properties of graphene are 2:41 How graphene can be used 4:50 Can you make graphene at home? 9:59 #graphene #thinnestmaterial #graphenelayers Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Graphene isn't a unique or rare substance. In fact, it has the same carbon structure as the graphite you use every day when you draw or write with your pencil! But at the same time, in 0.03” of graphite, there are about 3 million graphene layers! - Dr. Konstantin Novoselov and Professor Andre Geim discovered the wonder-material in 2004 at the University of Manchester. They were examining how efficient graphite is as a transistor. The story goes that graphene appeared thanks to sticky tape! - Graphene used to be incredibly expensive to manufacture. It cost a whopping $1,100 to produce enough graphene to cover the head of a pin. However, by the end of 2015, you could buy 0.35 oz of graphene for $1,000. - Graphene is incredibly stretchy. It can stretch as much as 25% of its length! This material is also really stiff. Actually, it’s the hardest material people know about — even harder than diamonds, and that says a lot! - One more great thing about graphene is its relationship with electricity. This material carries electricity more quickly, more precisely, and more efficiently than any other known material. - Graphene may be the answer to the water crisis many countries are facing. If we make membranes from graphene, they would be able to let water through while filtering out salt at the same time. - One layer of graphene is impressive enough. Can you imagine what you could achieve with 2 layers of this super material? Nothing short of incredibly strong body armor. - If producers start to use graphene in gadget manufacturing, we might end up with smartphones that can be bent in any direction. One of graphene’s main properties is its flexibility. - Graphene can be used in the beauty industry as well. It will be the perfect alternative to current hair dyes, most of which are still toxic and damaging to hair. - Well, you can potentially make graphene at home, provided you have enough time and patience to do so. The Mystery of the Disappeared Bodies of the Titanic

08:18
The titan of the sea, the great unsinkable ship that sank – over a century later, the mystery of the Titanic is still being studied to this day. Only a third of the ship’s passengers survived, while over 1,500 lost their lives. But out of all those casualties, only 340 bodies were recovered. So, the question remains: what happened to the remaining 1,160? There were only 20, and they needed 60 to be able to carry everybody on board to safety. - Perhaps those poor souls could’ve been rescued from the bone-chilling waters a lot sooner if the closest ships passing by the Titanic’s crash site had seen the flairs and other distress signals being sent. - The ship was also moving much faster than the speed it was built for. The reason for this was that the ship’s owner, White Star Line, didn’t want to fall behind schedule. - Only hours after the Titanic sank, a massive storm came over the ocean. The currents and winds would’ve swept many bodies up to 50 miles away from the crash site. - Of course, there were those victims that went down with the ship, and they had no chance of being retrieved. As for the bodies that were recovered, some were given a proper burial at sea if there wasn’t room for them on the rescue ship. - The brave and selfless woman earned herself the nickname “The Unsinkable Molly Brown,” and after the ship went down, she tried her best to get as many passengers as she could into the lifeboats. - There was also author, journalist, and teacher, Lawrence Beesley. He later wrote a book that brought him a lot of success called The Loss of the SS Titanic. - Another survivor was Violet Constance Jessop, who was a stewardess on the ship. Jessop hadn’t planned to work on the Titanic until her friends convinced her to apply for the job. - Dorothy Gibson, a beautiful American singer, model, and silent film actress was also a survivor of the Titanic. Gibson was one of the richer and more famous aboard the ship. All 4 Engines Failed Over a Volcano, See What Happened Next

10:02
It happened on June 24, 1982. On a calm summer night, passengers boarded the plane that would take them from Kuala Lumpur to Perth. The atmosphere was relaxed; the weather was fine, there were no approaching thunderstorms, and the plane didn't have any technical issues. There were 247 passengers and 100 tons of fuel on board the plane. But by the time the plane was in the air south-east of Jakarta, Indonesia, the first officer was sending out a Mayday distress call. All four of their engines had failed... British Airways Flight 9, also called Speedbird 9, performed its scheduled flight from London Heathrow to Auckland, with 5 stops on the way: in Bombay, Madras, Kuala Lumpur, Perth, and Melbourne. - There were 247 passengers and 100 tons (90 tonnes) of fuel on board the plane. That night, although moonless, was quite clear, and the flying conditions couldn't be better. All in all, the crew expected an uneventful 5-hour flight. - The windshields were ablaze with the most intense phenomenon of St. Elmo's fire the captain had ever seen in his life. As soon as the captain fastened his seat belt, he looked at the weather radar - and it wasn't showing any thunder clouds at all! - The flight went on, but the smoke started to accumulate in the airplane's passenger cabin. And while at first, it resembled cigarette smoke, with every passing minute, it was getting thicker and acquired the ominous stench of sulfur. - It was 8:42 when Barry Townley-Freeman shouted that engine number four had flamed out. Without losing time, the crew shut down the engine by arming the fire extinguishers and cutting off the fuel supply. - The captain estimated that they could glide 15 miles (24 km) for every mile (1.6 km) they dropped. It meant that the plane was able to glide for only 23 minutes and cover the distance of 91 nautical miles (168 km). - Mothers were hugging their kids, husbands were squeezing their wives' hands, flight attendants were teaming solo passengers together so they could support each other in the seemingly last minutes of their lives. - When the pilots tried to restart the engines again at 8:56 PM, engine number four roared back to life! With its help, the captain managed to reduce the speed of their descent. Even better, several minutes later the three other engines started as well! - As the plane was approaching Jakarta, it turned out that the cockpit crew couldn't see anything through the windshield, even though the visibility outside was perfect. - They could see the runway lights through a tiny strip of window, but the aircraft's landing lights didn't work. Even so, the captain managed to perform a perfectly smooth landing. - During the investigation, it turned out that the near-tragedy happened because the plane flew into a cloud of volcanic ash left after the eruption of Mount Galuggung in 1982. If You Eat an Avocado a Day For a Month, Here's What Will Happen to You

09:20
What Will Happen to Your Body If You Eat Avocado Every Day. The avocado is a unique fruit with multiple nutritional and health benefits. How would your body respond if you ate just one avocado a day? In fact, it would transform your life as you’d get amazing results: your breath will be fresh at all times, your kidneys and liver will work more efficiently, your blood pressure will become lower, just to name a few. There's a miraculous mineral to be found in avocados: potassium. It helps your system keep a healthy fluid balance through chemical channels for cells and organs. Avocados are also a great source of vitamins C and E. Vitamin C is known for its involvement in the creation of collagen and elastin, which help to maintain the skin's elasticity and firmness. Vitamin E takes it to a whole new level, reducing the damage of excessive sun exposure and counteracting aging. TIMESTAMPS How to get fresh breath. 0:37 How to make your kidneys work more efficiently. 1:26 How to decrease your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. 2:20 How to make your liver function more efficiently. 3:16 How to lower your blood pressure. 4:13 How to improve your vision. 5:07 How to get extra protection from cancer. 6:03 How to lose weight easily. 6:52 How to make your skin glow. 7:49 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -Avocado has antibacterial and antioxidant flavonoids, which kill bacteria in your mouth and make your breath fresh. -Potassium helps your system keep a healthy fluid balance through chemical channels for cells and organs. A good fluid balance allows your kidneys to function better. -Eating avocados regularly lowers the “bad” LDL cholesterol and blood triglycerides by up to 22% and increases the “good” HDL cholesterol by up to 11%. -This fruit is actually one of the best products for a liver-friendly diet, and that's all thanks to its ability to help your body produce glutathione! The liver desperately craves this antioxidant to filter out harmful substances and protect its cells from damage. -Potassium in avocados helps regulate the fluid balance benefits your blood pressure too. In this case, potassium prevents osteoporosis and, most importantly, lowers your blood pressure. -Avocados are high in antioxidants, especially carotenoids called lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect our eyes against harmful blue light. -The ability of avocados to give that extra bit of protection from cancer comes from the carotenoids and monounsaturated fat they contain, both of which make their own contribution to the impressive reduction of cancer. -Avocados are rich in fiber, which is essential for making those unwanted pounds disappear. Fiber is incredibly filling and digests slowly. -Thanks to vitamins C and E avocados help to maintain the skin's elasticity and firmness. Avocados are also rich in omega-9 fatty acids, and they’re crucial for maintaining moisture in the epidermis and regenerating epidermal cells. 11 Tips from Millionaires on How to Save Up a Lot of Money

08:00
Millionaires revealed the secrets of becoming rich. Follow these simple rules that guarantee success. You won’t believe how fast these tips actually work. Start with setting specific financial goals. Make sure what you’re doing on a daily basis is moving you closer to your goal. If it’s not, think of what you can change. Become an expert at whatever you want to do by following “the rule of 100”. It could be 100 speeches, 100 articles, 100 workouts and even 100 cakes if you like to bake. See money as something you can earn and build up, not something that keeps you down and crushes all your dreams. Expand your professional network: talk to people and keep their contact info. You never know where a new job might come from when you need it. Wait for that cool gadget to go on sale or compare prices at different retailers. Remember that by using a credit card, you’re essentially spending money you don’t actually have. Follow the millionaires’ advice and live below your means. Don’t spend all your money on luxury houses, cars and watches. And you don’t need to rush off and buy the newest smartphone model if your phone is working just fine. Millionaires don’t earn money just by spending time at work; they get their money to work for them. People around you influence your life and mindset, so surround yourself with successful people. TIMESTAMPS: Follow the “50/30/20 Rule” 0:27 Avoid “poverty thinking” 1:16 Write out a detailed financial plan 1:44 Adhere to the “Rule of 100” 2:35 Always have a Plan B 3:07 Buy in bulk and on sale 3:36 Stay away from credit cards 4:00 Try to buy straight from manufacturers 4:27 Live below your means 5:09 Start earning passive income 6:01 Surround yourself with successful people 6:44 SUMMARY: -Divide your income into 3 categories: monthly expenses, personal spending, savings account. -Never say things like “It's too expensive” or “I’ll never be able to afford that”. -Set specific goals and create a detailed plan on how to achieve them. -Do 100 of something within a year to become an expert at it. -Think of all the skills you have and work on developing them in your free time. -Don’t be embarrassed to use coupons and wait for sales. -By using a credit card, you’re essentially spending money you don’t actually have. -Order stuff straight from the manufacturer to get it at a lower price. -Live below your means so that you have more money coming in. -Invest in something you know. -Get along with talented people who share your vision. I Adopted Rich People’s Habits, See How My Life Changed

09:10
Learn the secrets of success from those who built their own empires from scratch. You can try adopting the habits of super rich people and see how it will help you save money. Successful people are rarely night owls; they go to bed and wake up quite early. So this was the first habit I decided to take on. By the end of the first week, I noticed that I was able to do way more before noon than I could ever do during the whole day. One more week into the experiment I started waking up completely well-rested and excited to start a new day. Self-made successes swear by exercising every day for at least 30 minutes. After just 10 days, it already became a habit. I became more concentrated and calmer. If meditating helps successful people stay on top of their game, it should help me out too. Networking is like currency for successful people. A lot of successful people (like Steve Jobs, for instance) keep a super minimalistic approach to fashion, often wearing the same outfit every day. Truly smart and successful people control their expenses and don’t spend their money on useless things. Music: Operatic - Vibe Mountain https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Go to bed and wake up quite early 0:34 Exercise every day for at least 30 minutes 1:51 Meditate 3:01 Set goals and achieve them 3:57 Meet new people as much as you can 4:44 Read more useful books 5:34 Wear simple clothes 6:24 Be thrifty 7:10 Conclusion 8:08 SUMMARY -With will power of steel, I decided to wake up at the same time every day and come to work an hour early. It took me 3 days to get the schedule right. -The hardest part here wasn't even the gym itself, it was exercising after working all day. After just 10 days, it already became a habit. I started sleeping better and waking up easier. -Meditation turned out to be a really good way to get my head straight and renew my energy. -Even though I didn’t manage to tackle all my tasks, I was able to do more things in the first week than I did during the entire previous month. -I learned to find common ground with people from the get-go, met a lot of extraordinary individuals, and made some really good friends. -I carried a book with me at all times and read it on the way to work and back home or during lunch. As a result, by the end of the first month, I had finished my fourth book. -I no longer had to waste time every day choosing my outfit, deciding whether or not it matched or if it was trendy and whatnot. -I started out by making a list of everything that I bought every day so that I could see what I spent my money on. This system helped me save 40% of my salary in the first month and almost 60% in the second. -New habits really did completely change my life for the better. Empty Tank at 41,000 Feet, So Pilots Did This

08:45
Imagine, you’re driving on a long stretch of highway when you run out of gas. This is not a good situation, but it's not critical. Now imagine the same scenario, only you’re a pilot flying a commercial jet full of people! That’s exactly what happened to a Canadian plane at a height of 41,000 feet... Other videos you might like: 11 Survival Tips from a Former Secret Agent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3K-SH7dGW0 What Would Happen If Plane Doors Opened? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S2_Plu0e2M& Pilots Reveal 16 Nuances That Make Your Flight Safe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVYXErxau-U& TIMESTAMPS: Miscalculation: pounds instead of kilos 😲 0:28 What to do if both engines are out 2:10 The most serious problem was... 4:03 People on the runway 5:38 How the pilots managed to stop that Boeing 6:36 What happened to the pilots after that 7:12 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - The plane seemed to be having problems with the computer that manages fuel loading. Since it wasn’t working properly, the ground maintenance crew just calculated the necessary amount of fuel on their own. - Both the ground crew in Montreal and the flight crew had forgotten the fact that at the time, Canada was switching from the imperial system of measurement to metric. That's why all of Air Canada’s new planes were calibrated in metric units. - The plane was at a height of 41,000 feet when the first warning light flared up. The crew figured that the fuel pump in the left wing had failed, so they switched it off. However, a few minutes later, the second light came on. - The pilots desperately searched through the manuals to figure out how to deal with such an emergency. Unfortunately, there were no instructions on what to do if both engines are out. - But the most serious problem was the loss of hydraulic pressure. A pilot’s ability to control the aircraft decreases along with a drop in hydraulic pressure. - Maurice Quintal thought of the nearby Royal Canadian Air Force Base just 12 miles away in the town of Gimli. Even better, it was no longer in use! - But the pilots still weren't aware of the most terrifying thing about this situation. That abandoned military base wasn’t just sitting there empty and derelict – it’d been converted into a motorsports park and racetrack! - The people on the runaway didn't expect to see a gigantic plane approaching them at high speed. But hey saw it coming and got out of the way in time. - The whole incident was dubbed The Gimli Glider. And after receiving some heat from the airline for that initial fuel miscalculation, both pilots ended up receiving the Diploma for Outstanding Airmanship in 1985. A Plane Lost Its Floor But the Captain Saved the Day

10:01
Imagine you need to get from Los Angeles to New York. To make it not so painfully long, you choose to take American Airlines Flight 96, with stopovers in Detroit and Buffalo. But several minutes after your plane leaves Detroit, it happens. Seemingly out of the blue - bang! And a part of the aircraft's floor is missing right under your feet! It happened on June 12, 1972. Captain Bryce McCormick was an aviation veteran with more than 24,000 flight hours under his belt. The co-pilot was also an experienced airman. There were 56 passengers on board the plane and 11 crew members. When the autopilot was turned on and the chief flight attendant went to the galley to make coffee, it happened. She was suddenly brought down to the floor by a powerful explosion... He didn't have anything to worry about: the radar confirmed that there was no bad weather on the route between Detroit and Buffalo. - Cydya Smith, the chief flight attendant on Flight 96, left her seat as soon as she saw the signs off and went to the galley to make coffee. And at exactly that moment, it happened. - The cockpit was rapidly filling with dark gray dust that blinded the men and didn't let them breathe. - Unexplainably, a cargo door had been blown out less than 5 minutes after takeoff, and it left the plane with a gaping hole in its side. - Hurricane force winds were sweeping through the cabin. One of the cabin crew members, Beatrice Copeland, was trapped under the collapsed door, unconscious. - The biggest problem was that the DC-10 had one peculiarity: it didn't have a backup system that allowed for manual operation if the hydraulic system got knocked out. - At that moment, the people on board the damaged plane still didn't know how lucky they were having Mr. McCormick as a pilot. Being curious about some of the DC-10 features, he’d spent hours on a flight deck simulator. - McCormick understood that his damaged plane would need the priority to land, and he contacted the Detroit airport control tower. - When the plane touched down, it was still moving incredibly fast. But the worst thing was that the aircraft was moving toward the main terminal building. - Miraculously, Whitney managed to return the plane to the runway, with two sets of wheels running on the runway and the other two off. - ll 67 people on board were alive, with only 11 not very serious injuries (9 passengers and 2 crew). - A large cargo door gone as if peeled away by a huge can opener. But on the very same day, the missing door was located in a cornfield not far from Windsor, and investigators came to a shocking conclusion. By the way, a mole can dig a tunnel longer than 65 ft in just one day! - Deep-burrowing species of earthworms can be spotted at a depth of 10 ft. One of them, Drawida grandis, can grow up to 3.5 ft long. - You can still find the roots of tropical forest plants if you dig 23 ft down. Tropical trees need such long roots to store water during dry periods. - When we arrive at a depth of 60 ft, we can see Beijing's Underground City. That's a subterranean bomb shelter consisting of a vast network of tunnels and underground rooms. It’s situated under the capital of China. - In Cappadocia, Turkey, there's an underground complex that probably dates back to the 7th century. Its name is Derinkuyu Underground City, and it's situated almost 280 ft below Earth’s surface. - The Channel Tunnel, connecting the UK with France, is situated at a depth of 377 ft. - The deepest railway tunnel is located at a depth of 787 ft. That's the maximum depth of the Seikan Tunnel in Japan that opened in 1988. - Even if we could get down to 1,001 ft, we’d still be in the danger zone for a B82 Earth-penetrating nuclear warhead. That's its maximum destructive depth. - At a depth of 3,800 ft, there's the deepest bat colony in the world. About 1,000 brown bats spend every winter in a zinc mine in New York. - About 5,920 ft down and we arrive at the deepest part of the 227-mile-long Grand Canyon. Its average depth is 5,282 ft. - The average depth of the oceanic crust is almost 20,000 ft. This is also the depth of the deepest known microbes. They were found in rocks below China's Songliao Basin. -The winner in the category of the deepest artificial hole on Earth is Z44-Chayvo Oil and Gas Well. This shaft is drilled down to a whopping 40,604 ft! That's 15 Burj Khalifas put on top of each other. The shaft is located in the Russian Far East. A Man Spent 18 YEARS at the Airport

09:05
If you've ever had to take a plane somewhere, you probably know how it feels to have your flight delayed by several hours. But imagine being stuck at the airport for a whopping 18 years! Well, one man didn’t have to imagine at all because that’s exactly what happened to him… Other videos you might like: The Man Put His Head In a Particle Accelerator, See What Happened https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_kq8_Z4LXQ& 10 Things You Should Never Google https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zedhjlDdD4& 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Flight Attendants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1neQzgKL38 TIMESTAMPS: What led up to that 1:11 His family secret (it reminds me of soap operas 😑) 1:54 Where things started to get murky 2:26 What his life at the airport was like 4:33 How he supported himself 5:04 The vicious circle 6:05 His new documents were fake? 6:21 Was that man... a Swedish submariner? 😮 7:27 Why he had to leave the airport 8:06 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - The man asked for political asylum from Iran. For 4 years, he got nothing but rejections from different European countries. But in 1981, fortune finally smiled upon him. - Nasseri was already an adult when his mother told him that he wasn’t her real son. It turned out that his birthmother was a Scottish nurse who’d had an affair with his father. - When he arrived at Heathrow Airport, he didn't have his refugee papers with him! Nasseri claimed that they’d been stolen on a train when he was on his way from Belgium to Paris. - Upon his arrival at Charles de Gaulle Airport, things really started getting weird. Since Nasseri didn't have his refugee papers, Parisian passport control authorities also wouldn’t let him leave the airport! - At first, Nasseri thought that his airport stay wouldn't last longer than a few days, maybe weeks at the most. But months went by, then years, and the man was still living in Terminal 1. - He mostly stayed on his personal red bench on the restaurant floor reading books and newspapers and writing down his experience in a diary. - Once his story spread around, concerned and generous people started sending him some money. - In 1995, 7 years into his stay at Terminal 1, Belgium agreed to send the necessary documents by mail. On top of that, France even granted Nasseri a residence permit. - But his new papers were under his birth name, Mehran Karimi Nasseri, and they had his nationality listed as Iranian, which he said wasn’t factual. - Nasseri's lawyer said that at first, his client was pretty sharp and his story made total sense! But over time, the details started changing and getting mixed up to the point that it became anything but believable. - In 2006, Nasseri finally left the airport 18 years after he’d first set foot there. Unfortunately, it wasn't his voluntary choice. He’d gotten sick and was taken to the hospital. 11 Signs Your Body Is 100% Unique

07:37
We’re going to tell you about exceptional physical skills and characteristics found in only a tiny percentage of people around the world (by the way, the rarest one is the first one). Each person has character traits, peculiar only to him or herself. Aspects of the psyche that are — if present in others at all — extremely rare. But did you know that our bodies can possess many unique features too?! TIMESTAMPS You have a flexible tongue 0:39 22% of people are capable of wiggling one ear 1:35 You can wiggle individual toes 2:06 Darwin’s tubercle 2:48 Diastema 3:23 You can raise one eyebrow 3:45 Dimples on the cheeks 4:16 Holes above the ears 4:54 Hitchhiker’s thumb 5:34 Missing tendon 6:05 You can touch your elbow with your tongue 6:40 SUMMARY - Researchers even went as far as to conduct a special study on the subject. 63% of the test participants managed to fold their tongue into a roll, 14% managed to bend it in half, and less than 1% were able to shape their tongue into a triple pipe. - Approximately 22% of people on the planet are capable of wiggling one ear, while no more than 18% can do it with both ears. But this was not always so: our distant ancestors used to be true virtuosos at making all sorts of movements with these body parts. - No matter how you try, you won’t be able to wiggle each of your toes in turn. That’s because only the big toe and the little toe are fitted with individual muscles, while the rest are controlled en masse by just one set of muscles. - The protruding segment on the inside or outside of the ear is called Darwin’s tubercle. The famous scientist once suggested that this feature was the consequence of the fact that early people’s ears used to be pointy. - Diastema is a gap between the front teeth, occurring in about 20% of humans. From the viewpoint of dentists, it’s an anomaly that requires medical intervention. - Scientists believe that early humans were able to wiggle their eyebrows separately — the way certain present-day species of monkeys do at the sight of danger. - Possessed by approximately 25% of the world’s population, dimples are a defect in the structure of the zygomatic muscle, which is responsible for smiling. In people with this physiological feature, a small bundle of the muscle gets attached to the bone. - Approximately 5% of people on the planet are born with a small hole above one or both ears. Interestingly, in the USA, such people constitute less than 1% of the population, while in Asia this distinction is diagnosed in approximately 10% of newborns. - Hitchhiker’s thumb is a physiological phenomenon in which the upper phalanx of the thumb can bend 90 degrees in the direction opposite to the palm. 9 Signs You Have Toxic Mold In Your Home

07:57
Is mold inside your home bad for your health? Mold growing on fruit and bread is easy to see, but mold growing in your home isn’t obvious at all. If you’re feeling unwell and showing a variety of symptoms you can’t explain, it’s worth learning whether mold could be causing your bad health. It wouldn’t be a surprise since a hidden mold problem is common in many homes. If you’re unsure whether there’s mold in your home, think about whether you usually feel better at work or when you’re out doing chores. That can be a tell-tale sign that your home is secretly an unsafe environment. Mold can wreck your health, so be wary, folks. TIMESTAMPS: There’s a strange smell in your house 0:43 You can’t stop coughing 1:17 Your muscles are hurting 1:56 There are stains on your walls 2:40 Your seasonal allergies are extra intense 3:17 You have asthma 3:49 You’ve noticed weird rashes on your skin 4:30 You are forgetful 5:08 Your eyes seem to be perpetually irritated 5:52 What can you do? 6:35 #mold #yourhealth #toxins Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - As mold grows, it releases microbial volatile organic compounds, which are known to smell particularly rank. Sniff around your home. If you catch a musty whiff, follow the smelly trail. - A report conducted in 2004 by the Institute of Medicine found that mold can be directly responsible for problems with the upper respiratory tract, and it can be the reason for chronic coughing. - Exposure to mycotoxins from black mold can also affect your muscles and joints. Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) is a condition that can be caused by mold. - Mold can have many different appearances. It can be spots on a wall, discoloration, dark rings, and stains. The spots aren’t always black; they can also be green, orange, brown, and white. - Mold tends to cause symptoms similar to seasonal allergies. As people attribute their sickness to allergies, mold can continue to spread in their home. - A study conducted in 2011 and published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology journal found that when a one-year-old child is exposed to mold in their home, there is an increased chance of them having asthma by the time they are 7 years old. - Mold doesn’t just affect your sinuses. People with mold allergies can experience skin that is red and itchy all the time. Some of the strongest allergic reactions can include rashes and hives. - Maybe a simple thing like remembering where you left your keys or giving all your concentration to one task seems impossible lately. To a certain extent, mold can make you mentally fatigued, disoriented, and forgetful. - If your eyes are lovely but nowadays always look bloodshot, mold could be causing their irritation. When pores are floating around in your home, they find a direct entry into your body through your eyes. - You can take a simple urine test to reveal whether there are mycotoxins in your system. If there are, a doctor can guide you through the recovery process. - Schedule a test with a mold testing company. They’ll be able to inspect your entire home and reach places you can’t get to. 10 Traits of Toxic Parents Who Ruin Their Children’s Lives

10:22
Raising children is very difficult and no one has the right to judge someone's particular parenting style. However, some parenting mistakes are more dangerous than others and can seriously damage your child’s health. This video will help you find out what actually affects a child’s psyche and teach those who have toxic parents how they can deal with this issue. When raised by narcissistic parents, children suffer from slowed-down emotional development or none at all, will most likely suffer from depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder when they become adults and grow up into an adult that’s either a self-saboteur or a person ready to sacrifice everything to achieve high goals. Children of toxic parents live in constant fear and apprehension. They’ll grow up into teenagers forced to listen to their parents' complaints, adjust to a "complicated situation", put themselves in their parents' shoes, and help, tolerate, and console them. Toxic parents might not see anything wrong whatsoever in telling all the relatives, neighbors, and family friends that deeply sensitive information the child was pressured into disclosing. These types of parents instill an inferiority complex in their kids since they don't wanna see their child try new things and succeed. Their narcissistic self-love generates fear at the thought of their child becoming better, smarter, and more successful than they are. These parents seem to “generously” offer something that their children don’t really need, but any refusal causes resentment. A grown kid starts thinking, "My parents probably just want some company and wanna feel needed." So they accept the help, thank the parents, and offer something in return. But there's no happy ending here because the parents will always remind their children of that "favor" they did for them. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS The effect of toxic parenting on kids 0:53 Traits of toxic parents: 10. "Fear me yet love me." 2:01 9. "You need to deal with adult problems, but you still have no rights." 2:34 8. "Be the best but don't forget that you're not special." 3:14 7. "Open up to me but don't be surprised by ridicule." 3:54 6. "You're bad so don't even bother trying to become better." 4:31 5. "You can be successful but only if there’s something in it for me." 5:28 4. "Do exactly what I say, but it’s your fault if you fail." 6:15 3. "You’re such an inconvenience, but don't leave me alone." 6:38 2. "Accept our help but stop exploiting us." 7:11 1. "Trust me, but I’m still gonna go through your stuff." 7:58 How to handle a toxic parent? 8:44 SUMMARY -When raised by narcissistic parents, children don't feel loved, heard, or seen, believe that how they look is more important than who they really are as a person. They don't feel support when they try to develop their true self. -For toxic parents, an emotional attack is synonymous with love and attention. -Kids of toxic parents probably believe that it's specifically their bad behavior that makes their father abuse alcohol to calm himself down. -Even if their kid performs much better than they did once upon a time, all of the child's achievements are taken for granted. -Toxic parents force their children to be sincere and later use the same personal information against the kids. -Toxic parents eagerly discuss their child's failures and flaws. -They enjoy boasting about their kids’ success so that others envy them. Plus, a successful child is a guaranteed better life for parents. -Parents treat their child like an object: they make all the plans and expect their kids to follow along. -Toxic parents never want to let their children go. Yet they’re always pointing out that the house, the money, and the food belongs to them. -The kids turn into prisoners in either case: if they refuse their parents' help, they’re ungrateful brats. If they accept, they’ll always be made to feel indebted. -If you try to restrict access to your personal territory, your parents accuse you of distrust or even hiding something illegal or immoral. -We don’t pick our parents, and we can’t really change them. The only thing we can change is our reaction to their actions. Limit access to your personal territory. Choose your personal interests over those of your parents. 10 Extinct Animals Scientists Are Ready to Bring Back

10:09
Do you know that scientists are almost ready to bring back some species that have been long gone? A T-Rex and other dangerous creatures aren't on the VIP list, so we won't see them in the not-so-distant future. But some of our most beloved characters from the Ice Age movies can be brought back to life! Instead of using the controversial term “cloning,” scientists prefer to say “make un-extinct.” To-may-to, to-mah-to, the idea is the same. An animal that died out thousands of years ago can't be brought back to life unless it's cloned. And therein lies the problem. For successful cloning, scientists need to have almost completely undamaged animal DNA. That's why some species are more likely to be resurrected than others. TIMESTAMPS: The woolly mammoth 2:01 The saber-toothed tiger 3:00 The Moa 3:48 The ground sloth 4:27 The dodo 5:19 Woolly rhinoceros 6:12 The Irish elk 6:44 The Baiji river dolphin 7:26 The Siberian unicorn 8:05 The Neanderthal 8:55 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - While most of the woolly mammoths died out about 10,000 years ago, there was a population of about 500 to 1,000 of them living on Wrangel Island as recent as 1650 B.C.E. The woolly mammoth was roughly the size of an African elephant. - The saber-toothed tiger was about the size of your typical modern-day big cats. It weighed from 200 to 600 pounds and could get up to 13 feet long. The saber-toothed tiger usually had a muscular neck, bobbed tail, powerful front legs, and dagger-like teeth that protruded from the upper jaw and could grow just under a foot long! - The moa was a huge flightless bird that looked kinda like an ostrich, minus the wings. We know of about 10 members of the moa family. Some were no bigger than a turkey while others reached a height of 10 feet, making this bird the largest that has ever inhabited our planet. - Ground sloths are likely to be successfully resurrected since they were still walking the Earth about 8,000 years ago. Even better, some samples of their DNA have already been received from undamaged hairs of this animal. - The dodo became extinct just 80 years after it had been discovered. Its only known habitat was Mauritius Island, where the dodo had been living peacefully for who knows how long until the Dutch showed up in the 1590s. - Besides the woolly mammoth, there’s one more fluffy extinct creature, the woolly rhinoceros, that scientists want to bring back. This animal still lived in the Arctic snows pretty recently, about 10,000 years ago. This furry rhino is quite famous too; it often makes an appearance in ancient cave art, like in the French Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave. - The Irish elk, also called the giant deer, was one more animal that didn't quite manage to survive the Ice Age. This creature mostly died out about 12,000 years ago. But researchers have discovered Irish elk fossils in Siberia that are only 7,000 to 8,000 years old. - The Baiji river dolphin went extinct in 2006, making it the first cetacean (that’s whales, dolphins, and porpoises) to die out directly due to the negative impact of human activity. It's obvious by now that since the extinction is quite recent, there’s a sea of DNA samples at hand that make resurrection pretty much a guaranteed success. - A Siberian unicorn skull discovered in Kazakhstan proved that the animal had actually disappeared just 29,000 years ago. That’s good news for people who wanna see a real unicorn someday! - Bringing the Neanderthal back would be the easiest task of them all. Scientists already have a map of its genome. It’s not a question of whether or not we can, but if we should… Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

40 Awesome Cat Facts to Understand Them Better

Cats have lived with humans for more than 4,000 years but we still don’t know everything about them because they are really mysterious creatures. And these aren't the only surprising facts about cats you may have missed! Before that, they were one of the greatest hunters feared by numerous species. - A group of kittens is often called a kindle; a group of adult cats is called a clowder. A female cat is referred to as a queen, and a male cat is known as a tom. - Cats only meow at humans. With other animals, they hiss, spit, and purr — but never meow. They also tend to greet each other by touching noses. - The problem of acne is pretty common among cats. They usually end up developing blackheads on their chins, which is widely known as feline acne. - Most cats tend to spend about two-thirds of their day sleeping. So the average 9-year-old cat has been fully awake for only 3 years of its life! Cats also spend about one-third of their waking hours cleaning themselves up. - One of the reasons why cats clean themselves so often is to lick your scent off! When your cat rubs against you from nose to tail, it wants to mark you as its own. - Cats have rather sensitive stomachs, so you should be very careful about your furry friend's menu. Never give your cat onion, garlic, green tomatoes, chocolate, grapes, or raisins. - Your cat always understands when you say its name…it just chooses to ignore you! Specialists believe this happens because, historically, cats haven't been domesticated to listen to people's orders — unlike dogs. - A cat's whiskers aren't there to make them extra cute! They’re covered in numerous nerve cells and blood vessels. - Cats have a special reflective layer in their eyes called the tapetum lucidum. This layer easily magnifies incoming light and allows cats to see around 6 times better than we do in the dark and low light. - A cat's heart beats way faster than ours with about 110 to 140 beats every single minute. - A cat's cerebral cortex contains 300 million neurons. Just for comparison, dogs have only around 160 million. - It's a natural instinct for a kitten to cover its poop. If your cat doesn't do that, this is its way of showing you who's the true head of the house. - Back in 2007, a calico cat named Tama became a station master and greeted passengers at Kishi Station. - Cats can easily jump about 6 times their own length! This is all thanks to the powerful muscles in their back legs, which allow them to jump onto any surface they like. - Biologically, a cat's brain is kinda similar to ours. We have almost identical brain regions that take care of our emotions, so there's a chance that you and your furry friend feel the same way sometimes. - In the cat world, the concept of left- or right-handedness is a thing too! Most cats are actually left-pawed! 11 Secrets to Memorize Things Quicker Than Others

10:46
We learn things throughout our entire lives, but we still don’t know everything because we forget a lot of information. Bright Side will tell you about 11 simple memorizing tips that will help you remember everything and improve your memory. TIMESTAMPS Why we forget things 1:04 How to remember everything 2:00 How to memorize something quickly 2:30 How to memorize something for a long time 3:20 Try to understand what you learn 4:17 Learn the most necessary information 5:11 Serial position effect 5:45 Interference theory 6:06 Learn opposite things 7:22 Build your own «mind palace» 7:22 Use «nail words» 8:19 Make up stories 8:40 Use a tape recorder 9:10 Visualize 9:51 Choose only the best materials 9:59 SUMMARY - Your brain is like a hard drive — the space is limited. Remember Sherlock Holmes? He couldn’t name all the planets of the Solar system — this was not because he missed school or something like that, but because he was too smart to have such irrelevant information in his memory. He deliberately erased facts he would never need. This is what your brain does: it protects you from overloading with information. That’s why all new data is stored in the short-term memory, not the long-term one. So, if you don’t repeat it or use it, you forget it very quickly. A German psychologist, Hermann Ebbinghaus researched the memory and its mechanisms. He described the Forgetting Curve which shows that just one hour after learning something new we forget more than half of the learned information. One day later we remember only about 30% percent. Well, you see where this is going. - There is a memorization technique called «Spaced repetition». To keep some information in your head for a longer time, you need to try to put it into your long-term memory. Forced memorization is not very effective in this case because your brain can’t make sense of the information quickly and form strong associations. Here it all depends on the reason why you are learning something. - To memorize something quickly, repeat the information right after learning it. The second repetition should be after 15-20 minutes. You don’t need to return to the information between repetitions — just rest and do something different. Let your brain relax. Repeat the learned material the third time after 6-8 hours. And you should have the final repetition 24 hours after the first contact with the information. Do you know any other memorizing tips? If yes, share them in the comment section below! 10 Morning Habits That Can Ruin Your Day

10:01
Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Perhaps it’s because you’re guzzling down a bunch of coffee or jumping in a hot shower right after you wake up? Or maybe when you first open your eyes in the morning, you can’t fight the urge to see what’s new on social media? These may not be the best ways to start your morning. Old habits die hard, that’s why we do some things without even thinking about how harmful they are — especially in the morning when we don’t have time to spare. So today, Bright Side wants to talk about ten things many of us do every morning that are actually harmful to us. You’ll learn how to make your morning and the day that follows better than they ever were before. Other videos you might like: 7 Morning Habits That Stop You from Losing Weight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5LDRkj_VkE& I Drank Water on an Empty Stomach for a Month, and This Happened https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UgL_UIYvI0& What Will Happen If You Start Eating Oats Every Day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uJLXIdvs40& TIMESTAMPS: Hitting the snooze button 0:32 Checking your phone 1:38 Drinking coffee first thing 2:33 Not making the bed 3:40 Eating empty carbs and sugar for breakfast 4:19 Leaving the curtains closed 5:11 Saving stretches and exercises for the evening 5:58 Brushing your teeth after breakfast 7:15 Making phone calls 7:49 Taking a hot shower 8:33 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Smashing that snooze button is a sure-fire way to start your day off all wrong. That’s because when you fall back asleep in between alarms, you enter into a new sleep cycle without completing it. This makes you feel even more groggy and disoriented than you did when you awoke to your first alarm. - While this is a very common morning habit for most of us, looking at your phone right after you open your eyes can cause you to feel unnecessary stress and anxiety before you even get up to brush your teeth! - While there isn’t anything wrong with enjoying a steaming cup o’ joe in the morning, this shouldn’t be the first thing you sip on after waking up. - By making your bed every morning, you’re completing a healthy ritual that will carry on into your day. You’ll be more productive and motivated to tackle the day ahead! - Opt for a protein-rich breakfast. This will keep you fuller for longer and, it’ll give you long-lasting energy to keep you productive and focused all day long! - According to life coach Kirkland Shave, natural sunlight releases cortisol in the body, which helps you concentrate and make smart decisions throughout the day. - Don’t do any strenuous exercising or stretching first thing in the morning, though. You can hurt yourself since your muscles and discs aren’t warmed up yet. - Brushing your teeth after breakfast may do more harm than good. You see, if you’ve consumed something acidic like coffee or fruit, that acid thins the enamel of your teeth. So, brushing them right after can wear away that weakened enamel. - People need time to wake up and get their bearings before they can think about important things to talk about on the phone. It’s best to wait until about 9:30am to start making phone calls. - The cold makes your brain release feel-good endorphins and natural adrenaline. If you can’t stomach a cold shower, at least take a lukewarm one. 15 Accidental Inventions You Can't Imagine Your Life Without

11:40
Some of the greatest inventions we use every day were created by accident. From the microwave to ice-cream cones, the accidental inventions on this list completely changed our way of life. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. But every now and then, it’s for the better! American chemist Roy J. Plunkett was doing research for the company Dupont to make fridges safer and invented a strange substance that was non-reactive, non-stick, and resistant to extreme temperatures. We all know it as Teflon. John Pemberton was a pharmacist trying to find a way to get rid of headaches. He came up with a simple recipe consisting of two ingredients: coca leaves and cola nuts combined into a syrup. It was later mixed with soda by accident and became a huge hit. Dr. Spencer Silver, a chemist for 3M Company, was trying to create a super strong adhesive but what he got instead was a “low-tack” yet high-quality adhesive only strong enough to hold up a piece of paper but durable enough to be relocated multiple times without losing its stick. We all know and love it as Post-it notes today. The first antidepressant was discovered in 1957 and was supposed to be a cure for tuberculosis. Wilhelm Roentgen unintentionally put his hand in front of an electron-beam tube back in 1895 and noticed that the radiation passed through solid objects and body parts leaving a shadow. And now we have x-ray imaging! #inventions #discoveries TIMESTAMPS Matches 0:41 Teflon 1:33 Potato chips 2:25 Ice-cream cones 3:16 Coca Cola 4:03 Post-It notes 4:37 Safety glass 5:26 Vulcanized rubber 5:57 Plastic 6:50 Antidepressants 7:34 Implantable pacemaker 8:00 Antibiotics 8:28 X-rays 9:09 Superglue 9:42 Microwave oven 10:20 SUMMARY -British pharmacist John Walker noticed that one of the sticks he used to mix the chemicals had some substance on it that caught fire easily. -American chemist Roy J. Plunkett was trying to make fridges safer and accidentally created non-reactive, non-stick substance resistant to extreme temperatures. -New York chef George Crum decided to change the way he cooked potatoes to avoid customer complaints. -The ice cream booth at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis was running out of bowls and tried using waffles instead of them. -Pharmacist John Pemberton was trying to find a way to get rid of headaches and invented the syrup of coca leaves and cola nuts. -3M Company chemist failed to create a super strong adhesive but gave the world the famous sticky papers. -French chemist Édouard Bénédictus noticed that the beaker that didn’t shatter after falling off his desk had had a thin film of liquid plastic in it. -Charles Goodyear mixed rubber with sulfur and accidentally dropped it on a hot surface – that’s how vulcanized rubber was invented. -Plastic was accidentally created in search for a cheaper alternative for shellac but became something way more useful. -The first antidepressant was discovered in 1957 and was supposed to be a cure for tuberculosis. -Wilson Greatbatch added the wrong electronic component to what was supposed to be heartbeat recording gadget and created the pacemaker. -Scottish scientist Alexander Flemming noticed that mold killed the bacteria in a dish in his messy laboratory and saved a great number of lives with his invention of penicillin. -Wilhelm Roentgen unintentionally put his hand in front of an electron-beam tube back in 1895 … and invented x-ray imaging. -In 1942, Kodak researcher Harry Coover was working on transparent plastic for gun sights when he accidentally created an extremely adhesive substance that stuck to just about anything. -Navy radar specialist Percy Spencer noticed that the bar of chocolate in his pocket melted near a microwave-emitting magnetron. What If You Didn't Blink for 29 Days

It may sound absurd to you, but there are actually people that gather together just to stare at each other for as long as they can. Yep, “staring contests” are a real thing. One of the world records for time without blinking was set - 40 minutes and 59 seconds. Actually, contestants use some clever tricks to achieve this kind of endurance. But why is blinking so important for our eyes? Mostly because they need to be moisturized all the time. Also, every time you blink, your brain finishes processing one portion of information, and gets ready to process the next one. An average person blinks more than 21,000 times a day, that’s one blink every 2 to 3 seconds. So what will happen if you stop blinking? Participants of staring competitions use yawning instead. - Another trick is in squinting. If you can’t fully close your eyes, at least squint them to keep them from hurting. - The record setter, Eyesore, came out of this battle victorious. But he likened the feeling to getting a tattoo on his eyeballs. - Little babies don’t blink as frequently as an adult person. When you read books or watch TV, you also blink much less often, even though your eyes experience extra stress. And finally, fighter jet pilots, while they’re in training simulations, blink frequently in friendly territories and less frequently in hostile situations. - Every time you blink, your brain finishes processing one portion of information, and gets ready to process the next one. This is why pilots blink more often when they don’t need to concentrate as much. - An average person blinks more than 21,000 times a day, that’s one blink every 2 to 3 seconds. That means you spend around 36 minutes a day in a blackout just because of blinking. - Eye blinks only look like they have no particular order, but they happen only when they’re needed to reload information or moisten the eyes. Even if you don’t want to blink – your brain will make you do it sooner or later. - So what will happen if you stop blinking? The damage would start almost immediately. As soon as your eyeballs start to dry out, tiny particles will settle down on their surface and start to scratch it. - Eventually, your eyesight will lose all sharpness because of the cornea’s drying out. The final result would be irreversible damage that may cause you to lose your eyesight altogether. Their main dishes of choice include vegetables, grains, fish, and meat. - Just like the rest of the world, a lot of Japanese people have a hectic schedule that doesn’t leave a lot of time or opportunity to prepare a home-cooked meal. In that case, they can turn to their version of fast food, which is usually a lot healthier and resembles home-style cooking. - Most Japanese people have very regulated meal times. They eat 3 filling meals a day, with breakfast usually happening between 8 and 9am, lunch from 12 to 1pm, and dinner between 6 and 8pm. - It’s a lot more common for Japanese children to walk or cycle to school. Of course, other countries have a lot of reasons why it might not be efficient or safe for kids to hoof it to class. - Portion sizes have been on a steep rise in the last 20 years throughout the world. For example, countries like Australia, Canada, Germany, the U.S., and the U.K. have much larger fast food portions than Japan. - Separate bicycle lanes and plenty of safe areas for pedestrians are common sites in Japan. This allows the Japanese to naturally burn calories as they commute to and from work or school every day. - Tea, especially the green variety, is the number one beverage in Japan. Green tea has been praised for having a ton of major health benefits, like increasing metabolism, burning fat, fighting anxiety, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, to name a few. - The practice of using chopsticks also helps in weight management, since they make you eat more slowly and in smaller bites. This slow process of eating helps people catch when they’re feeling full and avoid eating too much. The fact that food is served on a bunch of plates also slows down the process. - The number one way that the Japanese stay thin has to do with removing distractions and being mindful about the process of food consumption. Eating in Japan is treated with respect. 12 Ways to Protect Your Home While You’re Away

07:50
According to FBI statistics, around 1.5 million burglaries took place in the US alone in 2017. But is there a way to protect your home from burglars if you can’t afford an expensive security system? Bright Side has collected simple yet effective tips that will help you protect your home and even discourage thieves from breaking into your property. One of the popular way to enter a property is through first-floor windows. FBI reports show that around 23% of burglars in the US choose this way of entering homes. That’s why you should consider installing grilles if you live on the first or second floor. Don’t forget that you should have an escape route in case of an emergency, so buy grilles that can be unlocked. If you want to know what other ways to protect your home are, watch the video! TIMESTAMPS: Hide valuable belongings while strangers are in your home 0:43 Don’t let a thief hear your phone ringing 1:29 Install a reliable lock 1:51 Protect your windows 3:03 Take care of the territory surrounding your property 3:42 Use thieves’ fears against them 4:51 Dispose of boxes for expensive items correctly 5:13 Pretend 5:29 Check your locks 5:46 Let sunlight in 6:03 Put plants with abrasive foliage in front of your fence and windows 6:22 Don’t give out any information over the phone 6:52 #protectyourhome #yourproperty #safety Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - While a plumber is fixing something under your sink, they have enough time to have a look around. They can turn out to be bad guys who inform their accomplices. - Some thieves get creative and use a landline phone trick where they call your home phone and wait for an answer. If no one picks up a phone, it means that nobody’s home. - The locks most at risk of lock snapping are cylinder ones; the most complicated locks are those that can be opened with lever keys. - Make it easy for the police to identify your house. Put a large reflective number on your house and mailbox. Burglars like to get into dark houses to win some extra moments to get out again. - Thieves are scared of being caught. A simple but extremely effective way of scaring them off is putting out a sign that says “Protected Property.” This trick will make burglars think twice before breaking in. - If you’re throwing away the box from a new TV or refrigerator, you’re likely to attract potential burglars who’ll want to steal your new item. To avoid trouble, tear the box apart before throwing it away. - Imagine you’re leaving your home for a while. You’re already in the street, and you suddenly notice a strange person. They might be waiting for you to leave so they can break in. Don’t be shy! Turn around, and wave your hand as if someone stayed at home. - If you notice scratches on your lock, it might mean that burglars have tried to open it. Before you open the door and enter your home, check your lock so that you can react quickly if there’s an emergency. - If windows are curtained for a few days in a row, it can indicate that nobody’s home as there aren’t many people who like to live without sunlight. - To turn an ordinary fence into a barrier, plant something with abrasive foliage (like a dog rose or dewberry plant). You can also plant roses right under your windows. - You should be careful with unfamiliar service companies that call and ask questions about your workplace and hours or about the people who live with you. It’s one of the methods thieves use to find out the history of a property and the most suitable time for breaking in.
