(For more info, visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._D._Amaradeva ) Pandit Amaradeva has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Philippine Ramon Magsaysay Award (2001), Indian Padma Sri Award and Sri Lankan "President's Award of Kala Keerthi" (1986) and Deshamanya Award (1998). He also represented Sri Lanka in many forums including the UNESCO 1967 Manila Symposium, and composed the melody for the Maldives national anthem, Gaumii salaam, at the request of British Queen Elizabeth II in 1972. In this short film Mr & Mrs Amaradeva speaks about how he came up with the idea of creating the Mandoharp instrument by combining a Mandolin with a Harp. He talks about how his friends, Mr. Somabandu Vidyapathi and Mr. Tennison Fernando, contributed to bring this instrument to life. The documentary ends with a famous saying by Mr. Kumarathunga Munidasa "Aluth Aluth De Nothanana Jathiya Lowa Nonagi. "Angam" - The Movie Trailer - A Sri Lankan Documentary Film on Angampora

00:46
"Angam" The Movie www.angamthemovie.blogspot.com Editor / VFX: Amila Akalpa Perera Cinematography: Anuradha Jayasuriya Music / Producer: Lalindra Amarasekara Producer / Asst Director: Eranga Hemajith Executive Producer / Director: Anjula Rasanga Weerasinghe Special Thanks to: Marsh Dodanwela Guru Karunapala Dr. Siran Deranaiyagala Sudarshi Hewawasam Dr. Riency Wickramasinghe Oliver Hermann (Sudu Kotiya) G. Thusitha Padmakumara Athula Nandana Perera Piumal Chanaka Edirisinghe Oliver Jungmann Siripala Hettige And to all our family members, friends at Mirihana / German Angama Maduwa and for all the friends who supported us throughout the project to make it a successful reality. About "Angam" the movie: "Angam" is a documentary film, exploring an ancient traditional Sri Lankan martial art called "Angam" which is also known as "Angampora" in the popular culture. The film will take you through an untold story of the origin of Angam, along with the evolution of Sri Lankans through traditional folk stories of locals and scientific findings of archeologists. It will also give you an overview of how Angam has survived up till today and what will be its' future. The film unravels around one family who practices and teaches Angam, headed by Guru Karunapala. Students of Guru have spread this unique martial art form in to far corners of the world, ensuring its' presence in the international arena. Renowned archeologist & former head of Archeology Department of Sri Lanka, Dr. Siran Deraniyagala, is also featured in this film, contributing valuable scientific findings on the origin of Sri Lankans. "Angam" documentary film was produced under very tight or no financial backup and with very limited technical resources. These factors resulted limitations in the scope of the film makers' attempt. The entire project was filmed by an HD Panasonic camcorder and edited on home PC's and Laptops. It was the film teams' high enthusiasm, the "never-say-die" attitude and every form of encouragement of our friends which enabled the near-impossible to be a reality and end up with an documentary film of this scale. ©2010 Anjula Rasanga Weerasinghe / everanju Creations :::
