Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha, Norman Cook Mix (Tjinder Singh) Official Music Video

03:57
Brimful Of Asha is from the classic When I Was Born For The 7th Time album. It was John Peel's Festive 50 no.1 on BBC Radio 1 in 1997, and this version made it to no.1 in the UK charts. Norman Cook liked the original so much he requested to mix it himself, and it resulted in one of the most well known tracks that the world has ever heard.

India: the times they are a changing, part ii. Ram Nagar Chai walla.

00:52
this film has been updated... the new version is here... http://youtu.be/EWpY5y9XS3k As the refined but earthy beauty of old India meets the grossness of modern corporate culture, it makes for some strange paradoxes. This small shop in Ram Nagar sells traditional hand made lemon water, lassi and chai. They don't yet sell coca cola (though the bottled water they stock for foreign tourists is made by pepsico) but notice the insidious prominence of the corporate logos. The kind of immersive corporate brainwashing we take for granted in the west is only in it's infancy in rural India, but it is coming. Another Sadhu Cinema Pocket Size stop motion film. A One-Stop-Shop Sewage Treatment Plant in Jaipur, India

02:32
Farmer Lala Ram lives in the city of Jaipur in the northern state of Rajasthan in India. He remembers the time when sewage contaminated ground water in the city. Left with no alternative, farmers like Lala Ram used the untreated sewage water for growing crops and vegetables. The sewage also became a health hazard in Jaipur. The Asian Development Bank has been helping to address the problem by supporting water supply and sewage system improvements in six major cities in Rajasthan, including Jaipur. The facility in Jaipur treats and cleans nearly 62.5 million liters of sewage a day. The treated water is released into channels and farmers use it free of cost to irrigate their farm fields. Methane captured from the plant is also used to generate clean electricity to run the entire facility. The Jaipur Municipality says this will save more than USD 300,000 a year in electricity cost. The treatment plant is a one-stop shop. It transforms sewage to water for farming, harnesses alternative energy, while saving valuable electricity. The Asian Development Bank aims for an Asia and Pacific free from poverty. Approximately 1.4 billion people in the region are poor and unable to access essential goods, services, assets and opportunities to which every human is entitled. Get involved. Share this video. Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India Official Trailer!

02:16
Circa late 1800s, India is ruled and governed by the British. A small rural town is asked to pay it's annual taxes to a British army captain. The Rajah of this town, Puran Singh, pleads before Captain Andrew Russell to reduce the levy as monsoons had not been adequate and as a result crops had suffered. But the Captain does not agree. Taking advantage of the simple-minded townspeople, he magnanimously makes a offer to play cricket with their team, if they win then there will no taxes levied, but if they lose then they will end up thrice the amount of taxes. The Rajah returns to confer with his subjects. A young man by the name of Bhuvan tells the Rajah that he will make up a team and that the Rajah should accept the Captain's challenge. The Rajah delightedly does so, much to the glee and amusement of the Captain. Then begins the task of selecting a team. Bhuvan finds this to be a real challenge, as no one has really played cricket, they do not even own a bat or a ball. The selection of the team is marred with problems as to religion and caste, with some men saying that they will never play in the same team with a person of a lower caste. Nevertheless, Bhuvan pushes on, and does manage to come up with eleven men. Then begins the practice, and Bhuvan finds an ally in Elizabeth Russell, Captain Russell's sister, who agrees to coach them on the sly. The team uses a large stick in place of a bat, and a round stone as a ball. Each player is assigned certain tasks, and the tension reverberates as the day of the actual match draws closer. News get around, and people from miles around flock to watch this match. They are joined by several senior ranking British Officers. This match now has become a prestige issue, and the British High Command makes it known that it not stand to lose face at any cost. Finally, the day arrives. The match begins. Bhuvan and the Rajah hope that they have covered all potholes, and hope for a miracle. But what the two had not banked on was treachery at the hands of one of their very own players, who had accepted a bribe from Captain Russell, to ensure that the Indian team loses.

Allah Hoo - Hitesh Sonik feat Jyoti Nooran & Sultana Nooran, Coke Studio @ MTV Season 2

07:21
Sufism goes beyond religion and talks about true love for the Almighty. One doesn't need to visit the temple or the mosque to pray to god, but can do that with an honest plea from anywhere. This song has great positive energy to it and Hitesh Sonik wanted an honest and happy voice to sing it. On hearing the Nooran sisters, Jyoti and Sultana, he was sure that this would be a great partnership! The Nooran sisters were also part of the iconic track Tung Tung from MTV Sound Trippin. This spiritual song has a subliminal energy thanks to their raw and rustic voices. Through the addition of drums and Balabhaskar's magical piece on the violin, Hitesh effortlessly brings in a rock vibe to the song. Find the lyrics at http://www.cokestudioindia.com/season2/episode2.html?WT.cl=1&WT.mn=Episode%202 Credits: Producer: Hitesh Sonik Language: Punjabi Lyrics: Traditional Lyrics Vocals: Jyoti Nooran & Sultana Nooran Violin: Balabhaskar Santhakumari Drums: Darshan Doshi Keys: Jarvis Menezes Percussion: Anupam Deghatak Keys: Gaurav Vaswani Guitar: Hitesh Sonik Guitar: Kalyan Baruah Guitar: Sanjay Joseph Bass: Mohini Dey Flute: Paras Nath Recorded by: Steve Fitzmaurice, Ashish Manchanda (Flying Carpet Productions, Mumbai), assisted by Thorsten Muller Mixed by Steve Fitzmaurice at the Pierce Rooms, London Mastered by Bunt Stafford Clark at the Pierce Rooms, London Song Synopsis: Bulle nu loki matti dinde, Bulleya aa Baija Vich maseeti, Bulle nu loki matti dinde, Bulleya aa Baija Vich maseeti, Vich Maseetan de ki kuch hunde Je dilon namaz na Niti Bahron doye lattan Gode Anderen Rahi Paliti Tera dil khadave munde kudiya Sajde karen Maseeti Kannan nu haath lave pehle Pher Nawaz ne Niti Duniyadara Rabb de naal vi, Chaar sau vi ten kitti. Context: It's a song by a Sufi Saint called Bulleh Shah, of his spiritual journey and realizations therein, along with the poets emotions on the subject. Meaning: You can be anywhere and still connect to god, going to a Mosque and reciting a prayer is of no use if the same is not done from the heart, with complete faith, to establish a true connection. There is no use cleaning and beautifying your body from outside, if there is malice and deceit within. If the heart doesn't nurture the picture of The One and Only, but all others, no amount of prayers can ever reach him. For, it is no use committing a sin and then praying, because only deeds matter. We are all trapped within our worldly devices and hence have no time to even thank Him. A saint chants to connect to his god from within. They are the songs of his soul, as he is desperate to be one with Him. For this life is impermanent and there is no use just living for selfish needs. His love alone can enlighten our path, because that light is not restricted to the mosques and homes...but is omnipresent. Download this song NOW! http://www.itunes.com/cokestudio

Despite the United Nation's eventual intervention, most of Liberia's young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias are lying in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust. Roadside Vinyls | short film | Royal Record Shop, Kolkata (Calcutta), India

Tried to catch the charms of bygone era when vinyl records used to rule the music scene with their melody and unforgettable lyrics. That was how classic scores were born and still rule our minds and souls to crave for more. We rue the fact, among business and all glitters, the melody and tune got lost somewhere. In the age of digital and "easy" music, there is nothing to compare old analogue sound. That's why DACs and other things sell to bring back the old charm. But where are the lyrics and voice? I met Md. Azim Shamsi in his shop on Free School Street purely by chance, when I was contracted for a culture promotion group from Europe for a docu feature. He was the custodian of the fifty year old shop that was started by his late father. He used to sell English, Hindi and Bengali records at throwaway prices and sells and repairs turntables. after this video gone live, music lovers from the world started to throng his shop frequently. Last year, 2017, poor Azim left for more melodious world, where he won't have to sell records :( I just keeping his memory alive, as a music lover, but, more as a close friend. The business card thumbnail you see on video overlay, was designed by me, for him. I've disabled commenting on this particular video, because, some local people were just bothering me, in caustic notes, so For any queries, comment on any of my other videos, ( I mentioned my email here earlier, now I see a fb account was opened using that id,whoa! ) Responses might be late, to mimick the old times of vinyl, when it was, slow !) I'll add subtitle shortly for global viewers, kindly come back anytime soon. For now, between 0.40-2.00, its almost like this, [ Me: hello azim, how do you do, meeting you after long time, tell me, about your shop, and how you keep running this business when very few care for such stuff. Azim: ok sir, this was my father's shop, I inherited after his demise, I do this purely from my love for music, so at cheap rates, everyone can get a taste of bygone era's lifestyle. Records sell between inr.50-200 or more ($1-4 and upwards). Customer's satisfaction makes me content ] It was shot on a samsung digimax i6, a 6mp point n shoot, I was low on gears back then ) Best #Vinyl #shortfilm #VinylCollection #VinylRecord #documentary #docu #docufeature #lovevinyl #amateurfilm #antiques #lp #turntable #recordplayer

World's Scariest Drug (Documentary Exclusive)

VICE's Ryan Duffy went to Colombia to check out a strange and powerful drug called Scopolamine, also known as "The Devil's Breath." It's a substance so intense that it renders a person incapable of exercising free will. The first few days in the country were a harrowing montage of freaked-out dealers and unimaginable horror stories about Scopolamine. After meeting only a few people with firsthand experience, the story took a far darker turn than we ever could have imagined. Kila Raipur Festival or Rural Olympics is a very popular annual sports meet. An interesting part of the event is that all participants are given enough time to show off their ability. This sports event is so exciting whether it is a tractor race or dog race, it is special for all. Much of the allure of the Rural Olympics lies in the traditional forms of contest and in the ability to compete in events where no specific skills are required. This particular event involves many people who go through a circular set of rods and test their strengths over the other. According to the Rural Olympics website: It was in 1933. Philanthropist Inder Singh Grewal visualised an annual recreational meet where farmers from areas surrounding Kila Raipur could get together and test their corporal endurance. The idea gave birth to Kila Raipur Sports, the undisputed "Rural Olympics". In over six decades the festival has grown from a toddler to a prancing, energetic youthful organisation. This pioneer rural sports festival has become an annual international event, which is normally held in the first weekend of February. A dynamic team of organisers -- Grewal Sports Association -- has taken yet again another pioneering step of giving rural women a break in sports. Today this festival of the rustics attracts more than 4,000 sportsmen and women, both of recognised and traditional sports. The three-day festival is witnessed by more than a million people. Besides, several million others watch it on television, read about it in newspapers and magazines. Whether you are in Punjab or in Toronto or in Southall, you will know the latest about Kila Raipur Sports. Its participants come from all over the globe. Since it takes several months for the immigrants in England, Canada or the USA to select, train and send their Kabbadi and Tug of War teams to this festival which of late has become a truly international, talks about destination KILA RAIPUR start much early. When Mr. Inder Singh Grewal and subsequently Grewal Sports Association visualised the Games, the solitary aim was, "healthy mind in a healthy body", the watchword has been "excellence", in accordance with the Olympic motto of "CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS". Besides, it was to provide a platform where boys and girls, men and even veterans could come and exhibit their acumen not only in recognised sporting events but also in traditional rural sports. So it has been always the best. Those who have been watching this festival grow from year to year can vouch that they have seen hundreds of Olympians and internationals in action on the bald but even playfields of perhaps the biggest Rural Sports Stadium in the country. For the Grewal Sports Association, it is not only the annual Rural Olympics but also sports promotion which gets its paramount attention. The Association sponsors and runs a hockey academy for schoolboys. At present 150 budding hockey stars are training at the Academy on a regular basis -- 125 of them are day boarders and 25 are boarders. The Association plans to extend the stadium further, construct a new modern hostel for the Academy, start another academy in track and field and lay a synthetic surface for hockey. Kila Raipur and surrounding villages have made a matchless contribution to the national mainstream of sports in almost all major recognised sports. These activities apart, Grewal Sports Association enjoy the proud privilege of being the pioneer of organised "Rural Sports" in the country. It is perhaps the only meet which attracts sponsors from multinational companies and where prize money attracts the best of sportsmen and women. The organisers are none other than dedicated, qualified and reputed men who have spent their youthful days on playfields of the village. No other rural sports meet can even come near the Kila Raipur sports, either in organisation or in size. It remains the biggest and the most prestigious one of its type. This footage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of imagery from South Asia. The Wilderness Films India collection comprises of thousands of hours of high quality broadcast imagery, mostly shot on HDCAM 1080i High Definition, HDV and XDCAM. Kasparov Beats Carlsen in Crazy 😝 King's Indian Defense (Garry Kasparov vs Magnus Carlsen)

17:32
Want to learn some of the chess secrets that helped Garry Kasparov beat Magnus Carlsen? 😃 Signup today for GM Damian Lemos' FREE rapid improvement masterclass that will give you the most ELO gain in the shortest amount of time! ► https://ichs.co/2zM9tC2 Kasparov vs Carlsen, an epic clash between the world champions of two generations. With the white pieces, Kasparov employs a somewhat strange move order from the English Opening that becomes the white side of a King's Indian Defense. Carlsen chooses the sharp Gligoric System of the King’s Indian Defense with 7. ...exd4, 8. ...c6, and 9. ...Re8 to which Garry Kasparov responds with the Taimanov Variation with 10. Bf2, 11. exd5, and 12. c5 leading to a very double-edged position in which black must play very actively to maintain the balance due to his long-term positional disadvantage with the weak, isolated d5 pawn. After 17. Rad1, black's position is visibly difficult as he lacks piece coordination and his previous activity now looks very superficial. With 22. d7! Kasparov blasts open the position and forces the win of substantial material - leading to Carlsen's resignation when down a piece after 32. Re3. Unfortunately Garry Kasparov and Magnus Carlsen only met a handful of times at the chess board - however luckily these games were very interesting and hard-fought. Kasparov played a mini 2-game match at the Reykjavik Rapid in 2004 with Carlsen, when the 41 year-old Kasparov was rated 2830 and the 13 year-old Carlsen was rated 2485. Although Kasparov ended up winning the Carlsen vs Kasparov mini-match 1.5-.5, the games featured an exceptionally high level of fighting chess and it was clear that Magnus Carlsen was up to the task of playing against the former World Chess Champion. I find it fascinating that Carlsen's style as a rising chess prodigy was marked by wild tactics and insanely precise calculation, because now Magnus Carlsen is the #1 rated player in the world by a long shot but has considerably modified his style to be less tactical and more positional. Simply put, Carlsen has evolved his play to remain in control at all times and take very few chances. He is the master of positions with small winning chances and no chances to lose. In this historical encounter, Kasparov thoroughly trounced a poorly thought-out plan from Carlsen - making the chess prodigy's play appear downright superficial. ► Corresponding article from this video with extra goodies: https://ichs.co/2zKbFtP ► Come checkout the iChess.net shop, we have the world’s largest collection of chess videos and chess courses: https://ichs.co/iChessShop ********** Other Videos from iChess ********** ► Subscribe to our main Youtube Channel: https://ichs.co/iChSubscribe ► Check out award winning Master Method video series: https://ichs.co/MasterMethod Checkout our most recent video: https://ichs.co/latest-chess-video ********** FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL: *********** Facebook: https://ichs.co/iChessFB Twitter: https://ichs.co/iChessTwitter YouTube: https://ichs.co/iChSubscribe ********** Our Other YouTube Channels *********** iChess Ch 2: https://ichs.co/iChess2 iChess en español: https://ichs.co/iChessESP
