A native of The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Jessel Brizan is an experienced founder, educator and fashion professional with a demonstrated history of working in the apparel and fashion industry.
He possesses over fifteen years experience in fashion with international experience in New York having worked at Federated Merchandising Group (now Macy’s Merchandising Group), a subsidiary of Federated Department Stores (now Macy's Inc.), and Solo Licensing Corporation, a licensee for Betsey Johnson hosiery and Spalding menswear all while studying menswear design at the renowned State University of New York (SUNY), Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
Jessel's tutelage as an educator began with The Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design (CAFD) at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) where from its inception in 2008 he provided instruction for the Diploma in Fashion Management, Diploma in Fashion Design, and Bachelor’s in Fashion Design programs.
Over the past ten years at CAFD, Jessel developed the syllabi, lesson plans and administered the course materials for nine different courses including Basic Computing: Office Applications, Basic Computing: Graphic Applications, Digital Workshop: Photoshop, Digital Workshop: Illustrator, Technical Illustration I, Technical Illustration II, Graphic Applications for Fashion Marketers, Fashion Presentations, and Portfolio Development.
As an entrepreneur Jessel helped transform the local fashion sector in Trinidad and Tobago over the past decade. Founded in 2006, Jessel Brizan Design Group Ltd. (JBDG) became the first fashion design company to establish its own ecommerce platform, and sell and ship its merchandise globally. Subsequently in 2012, he founded Blue Basin Department Stores Ltd.
(Blue Basin), the first brick and mortar retail concept devoted to Caribbean fashion and design.
In April 2017, Jessel was approached by The Trinidad and Tobago Fashion Company Limited (FashionTT) to propose and facilitate workshops for their Business of Fashion workshop series in July 2017. He subsequently developed and conducted workshops on Floor-ready Merchandising and Preparing for the Buyers Meeting presented to fashion industry stakeholders.
