Developing Data Science products - Jan Zyśko, Magdalena Kalbarczyk

28:23
Developing Data Science products - Agile approach at Grupa Pracuj Jan Zyśko, Magdalena Kalbarczyk Description We use a case study to present the approach to developing Data Science products at Grupa Pracuj. Agile development and maintenance of such products pose unique challenges, as their usability strongly depends on having accurate models and efficient data pipelines. In the talk we go through different phases of development of one such product, which employs Deep Learning to solve an NLP problem. Abstract There is a long and bumpy road from defining business needs to creating useful and understandable Data Science tool for either internal or external users. Undertaking such task requires preparing data flows, developing Machine Learning models, and presenting the results to end users. Moreover, it all has to be done in close collaboration with Business, in order to ensure rapid prototyping and maximum impact. In this talk, we present a case study of one such project. During the last several months we tried to address the need for predicting pracuj.pl users’ behaviour. We started with an experiment, which helped us to see if users behave predictably enough on a macro scale for our models to achieve useful results. After obtaining promising results, we then moved on to create an MVP for internal usage, to see if the product would be useful as a Django application for our CC department. At this point we had a fairly complicated technology stack - Python, Hadoop, SQL Server, and AWS. This is because we prioritized development speed over seamless integration. When the usability and usefulness of the application was confirmed, we moved over to the creation of a proper ETL, which minimizes the integration and security issues and offers good scalability and computing costs. These works will most likely extend to Q4. Our future plans for the project involve, in addition to continuous work on model accuracy, tapping into the very recent research on the interpretability of NLP models, in order to provide our end users with actionable feedback. Moreover, we are looking into the possibility of presenting the insights from the model directly to the pracuj.pl customers. 1. Introduction Big Data at Grupa Pracuj Problem description 2. KNOW: The Future of Product Data Analytics

06:28
At every company there are volumes of historical data that trace the birth, life and death of the products that we touch and use every day. What if we took all of this data and tried to write a new story? Could it be put to use to predict the future? Could it tell us how to innovate better next time? In the second video of our KNOW series, we explore the application of advanced analytics to product development data. Using product lifecycle intelligence (PLI), we can now predict the outcomes of product development and prescribe recommendations to make the future better – both for companies that make products and the people who use them. www.kalypso.com/pli

Who is a Product Manager and What do they do? [Career Insights]

07:54
The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. Product Manager - 10 Essential Skills to Master (In 2019)

06:51
Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. What's the Deal with Big Data?: Go Further with Ford 2014

01:11
From individual consumers to the world's largest companies, data has become an increasingly useful and valuable commodity. We share personal data including calendars, preferences and locations with companies like Apple, Google and Facebook. In exchange, they mash it up with data from other sources to remind us where we need to be, suggest what to wear and tell us how to get there. At the other end, companies in fields as diverse as package delivery, manufacturing and computer chip technology derive valuable insights from looking across a diverse range of seemingly disparate data sources. These insights are used to help inform product development decisions, learn about the issues customers are having with products and how to improve processes. Ford has been a data-driven company since the post-World War II days of the "Whiz Kids." Alan Mulally's motto — "The data will set you free," has helped drive the company to new heights of success. Today, using data effectively is increasingly valuable in everyday life and in business.

The potential of big data is huge. For example, we are now measuring the past, but we will venture into the business predicting the mobility behavior of people and to supply real time data for traffic management. How are people physically distributed within a country? How do they travel? It is important to understand daily life, but it is also important when there is for instance a natural disaster. Ir. Wim Steenbakkers studied Chemistry at the Technical University of Eindhoven (Netherlands) and the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel). His experience varies from (fundamental) research, innovations, product development, market development, Marketing and Sales, General Management to entrepreneurship. After his career at DSM he became entrepreneur, founding and managing a wide variety of innovative companies such as Terreco (soil remediation) , DuraCar (electrical cars) and Mezuro (Big Data). His drive is to convert innovative ideas into profitable businesses. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Five Big Data Use Cases for Retail

01:43
Five Big Data Use Cases for Retail https://www.pepperdata.com/blog/retail With tight margins and increased competition, savvy online retailers are leveraging big data in ways that set them apart from the competition. It’s the only way to move forward in this data-driven world. When done right, big data can be leveraged by retailers to make more sales, enhance forecasting, refine supply chain efficiency, improve inventory management, and reduce costs. Let’s look at some of the effective big data use cases for retail. The one thing they all have in common is the need to ensure performance and reliability. Predict Customer Behavior: We’ve all experienced recommendation engines offering up suggestions with “you may also like.” But there’s a fine line between savvy and creepy, so sellers must tread lightly. Anyone who has heard the story remembers the infamous time big data went wrong for a major retailer. When Target used analytics to market to customers that data predicted were pregnant, the father of a teenager responded in anger that Target would send such ads to his daughter, who was still in high school. Target apologized, only to receive a return apology from the man, who found out his daughter was indeed pregnant. While extremely awkward, more importantly, people were understandably creeped out and became mistrustful of the brand. After all, if it was using its data to predict something as sensitive as pregnancy, how else was Target using data to target consumers? But when thoughtful and careful, companies can leverage data they have on customer purchases, behavior, loyalty cards, and online wish lists to effectively increase sales and marketing. Predict Customer Lifetime Value: Big data is invaluable when it comes to estimating customer lifetime value. And retailers are not limited to owned data; they can leverage and correlate their own customer metrics with social media, email clicks, browsing patterns and other behaviors. Improve Supply Chain Efficiency: Machine learning can be applied to stock and supply chain metrics combined with data from customer behavior, social platforms, industry reports and the media. These insights can be used to predict demand, manage inventory, optimize pricing, conduct targeted marketing, and even determine the best store layout and product placement. Perform Sentiment Analysis: Retailers can perform sentiment analysis using social media, review sites and other online data to drive strategy. Using language processing to track words – both positive and negative – can be extremely valuable for making improvements to marketing, customer service, and product development. Fraud Detection: Data breaches are an increasingly dangerous threat to brands, and retail organizations must be especially cognizant of the risks associated with consumers’ personally identifiable information (PII). In addition to securing the data its consumers trust them to protect, online retailers also need to protect their own financial interests. Big data from point-of-sale, return rates, and online activity feeds the platforms organizations leverage to monitor activity and detect fraudulent activity based on hidden patterns and anomalous behaviors, and algorithms predict future fraudulent activities. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT IS KEY To ensure system availability for predictive analytics, retailers need a performance management solution that monitors the entire environment — the infrastructure as well as the applications. Pepperdata’s unified solution combines application performance management (APM) and infrastructure performance management (IPM) into a single, comprehensive platform to ensure uptime. Driven by AI and machine learning, Pepperdata continuously learns, identifying and addressing abnormalities in infrastructure and analytics application behavior to automatically detect and prevent performance roadblocks. Pepperdata helps retailers optimize their applications and ensure they know what’s going on in their mission-critical systems. Only Pepperdata can correlate infrastructure and application event data to determine the root cause of an application slowdown and automatically tunes resources for optimum performance.
