"Synesthesia" Solo Debut Album Out Soon!
Open "SHOW MORE" section to read about the concept behind Synesthesia.
- the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.
Our ears perceive sounds. But, can music make you see colors? Apparently a synesthete can!
Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway,
or simply said, the senses are in sync. When a synesthete is listening to music, he can visualize certain colors, for e.g. the musical note "C", no matter the register, will always be the color green. It seems like a trippy experience right?
Then I asked myself - “Am I a synesthete”? After long research I realized that this phenomenon is very subjective and that we all might be synesthetes! The simplest example of proof is the “bouba and kiki effect”. My experience is a bit different. When I play my guitar, a certain chord or chord progression can create a mental image of certain places that I’ve already been or even never been before. Have you experienced something similar? You might also be a synesthete, but have never been aware of it.
Furthermore, I’ve decided that “Synesthesia” will be the title of my debut album, the concept behind the artwork, music videos, and live performances.
The album contains ten songs, and each song represents a certain color. The goal for every song is to simulate a synesthetic experience for the listener. Each song is inspired by my past life experiences and each color choice has been influenced by my subjective opinions. For example, in the warm summer of 2015 while on the Maltese islands, I wrote a song called “Farewell”. It is a love theme which was written for a person that was a thousand miles away, both of us on different sides of the world, separated by the deep blue Mediterranean sea. The color “Blue” dominated the clear sky and the mesmerizing horizon. The song titled “It’ll be OK”, represents the relationship between the melancholic beauty of the fight that is always taking place in the inner workings of our mind (the battle between anxiety, self-enmity and the constant desire to be the best version of ourselves) and the person who is always there to tell us that everything will be fine in the end. It contains the color “Violet Purple”.
The rearrangement “So Maki Sum Se Rodila” is the color “Black” because of the dark themes portrayed in the lyrics of the original song. In contrast to the song represented by “Black”, is the song named “The Nihilist”, appropriately represented by the color "White", which subjectively depicts the feeling of being trapped in an empty, white room.
That, and much more, makes the philosophy of the project "Synesthesia".
