Today I have an Adobe InDesign tutorial video entitled a magazine layout in Adobe InDesign tutorial, a look at laying out a magazine document both for print and we use, in InDesign. I have a link below that shows my most recent magazine project that I worked on in InDesign which is also shown in the tutorial today. My method works for me where I design he artwork in Photoshop, and then transfer that over to Adobe InDesign, where I also add the text and logo files to prevent blurry printing solutions.
So if you want to know how to layout a magazine in Adobe InDesign, watch my video today and I hope that the Adobe InDesign tutorial is a helpful one :)

https://modeeffect.com/4-ecommerce-design-trends-that-amplify-results-on-your-store/
-----
eCommerce website design is a fast-changing landscape. At Mode Effect, we specialize in designing eCommerce websites on the WordPress WooCommerce platform, which we’ll talk a bit more about later.
To help keep you up-to-date on the latest trends that have a powerful impact on an eCommerce store and its success, we’ve rounded up four design trends to incorporate into an eCommerce site. Each will have an impact on your customer’s first impression, how they engage with the site, whether they make a purchase or not and if they become repeat and loyal customers.
Card-Like Layouts & Material Design
Material Design is being adopted rapidly by eCommerce sites. Codenamed Quantum Paper, Material Design is a design language developed in 2014 by Google that expands upon the “card” motifs debuted in Google Now. It makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as lighting and shadows. Material Design is a lively, content-focused design style that allows a website to have a consistent, fun and engaging experience across multiple devices and platforms. It is an ideal style for eCommerce sites, whose goal is to create a tangible and impactful user experience.
Card website layouts – think Pinterest with its card-like format – continue to be hot and allow for an easy experience for users to browse products on a site. Cards are the main component used in Material Design. Using a card design allows for organizing products and categories into a pleasing, simple-to-navigate framework. Best of all, a card-like layout works well in multi-device landscape and is easily made responsive.
Both card designs and material design have been shown to lower bounce rates and increase the stickiness factor, whereby users stay on a site longer to browse and buy. ASOS and LOFT are examples of a card-like design.
Large Backgrounds
Studies show that when customers encounter a large and unique image on a website, they stop and take notice. Large backgrounds, essentially big attractive headers, came early in the revolution of website design and have continued to be a mainstay. They are used extensively on eCommerce sites for good reason – the provide a clean, fresh experience and present products in a way that makes users want to purchase them.
Often called the “Hero Image,” your homepage background plays an important role in telling your brand’s story (more on the role of storytelling in a moment…). Your image should be relevant to your brand and underscore its tone and speak to its target market. A carefully selected background image can help to recreate a “brick and mortar” shopping experience for visitors. While large images should definitely be part of the homepage design, they can also be used effectively on product pages as well.
On trend eyeglass seller Warby Parker uses several large images on its homepage that align with its brand. Everlane, a direct to consumer luxury brand, in comparison, uses one main image that takes up nearly all of its homepage real estate.
Storytelling
Storytelling has always been the most effective form of marketing, and it should definitely be part of your eCommerce site. A good brand story will separate your brand from the pack. Using Material Design and card layouts along with large backgrounds play a role in storytelling. A good story brings a brand to life. It creates an emotional connection with customers and increase loyalty and sales.
We came across this amazing example of brand storytelling via video from the brand Backcountry on Ometria’s blog. An Ometria notes in the blog, the video focuses on the brand’s root, share its values, uses examples to create an immersive experience and sells the experience – all tenets of good brand storytelling.
GREATS, a footwear brand that makes high quality products sold direct to the consumer at a value price, leverages video and large imagery on its About Us page.
Long Scroll
Finally, the long scroll has become the norm for website design, as users are accustomed to scrolling rather than clicking on mobile and tablet devices. Think of using this design tool to help tell your story. Through the use of large images, hero images, video and compelling text, you can take your customers on a journey into your brand and its products.
FeedProjects.com, founded by Lauren Bush in 2007, provides meals with every handbag purchase to those in hunger and poverty. The company’s website clearly tells it story along with featuring its unique products as you scroll through the site.

Read the article about how 3D Printing is shaping a new frontier in product design -
For more information on 3D Printing and other technologies for product design, visit our website https://proto3000.com
The terms “3D printing” and “additive manufacturing” refer to processes that automatically build objects layer by layer from computer data. The technology is already well-used in many sectors including transportation, health care, military and education. Uses include building concept models, functional prototypes, factory tooling (such as molds and robot-arm ends), and even finished goods (such as aircraft internal components). The aerospace and medical industries in particular have developed advanced applications for 3D printing. 3D printing is sometimes referred to as “rapid prototyping,” but this term does not encompass all current uses for the technology. Materials used in 3D printing include resins, plastics and, in some cases, metal.
The longer a product stays in the design cycle, the longer it takes to get to market, meaning less potential profit for the company. Time-to-market considerations were identified as the most critical daily issue facing respondents of a 2008 Product Design & Development readership poll. This group also said prototyping itself presented a time-to-market obstacle in 17 percent of product launches.

JAE’s DX07 series waterproof USB Type-C receptacles achieve IPX8 waterproofing using a unique design and insert molding process. This offers superior protection and reliability compared to connectors that use potting methods for waterproofing, as potting-based waterproofing can be compromised during reflow soldering. JAE’s DX07 waterproof USB Type-C receptacles support USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds and current up to 5A for compatibility with USB Power Delivery. The receptacles are available with short or long shells to suit application needs and are rated for 10,000 mating cycles. JAE’s DX07 series also includes standard receptacles, plugs, and cable assemblies, all designed with the same excellent electrical and mechanical performance. An Industrial Design is the ornamental aspect of a useful article. This ornamental aspect may be constituted by elements, which are three-dimensional (the shape of the article) or two-dimensional (lines, designs, patterns and colours) but must not be dictated solely or essentially by technical or functional considerations. It is the right to protect the ornamental, non-functional features of an Industrial Article or Product that arise from Design Activity.

The Sustainable Business Model Canvas, 11 Steps to designing and communicating a successful sustainability strategy
Get our FREE value proposition design guide http://bit.ly/2DLXBBP
To learn more visit our website http://www.bluetribe.co
One of the many challenges faced by Sustainability professionals is - how do we communicate the business case for our sustainability program?
So how do we communicate the business case for our sustainability program?
One of the best ways to describe how your sustainability program is organized and delivers value is using a business model.
A business model is basically how a company creates value for itself while delivering products and services for its customers.
Sustainable business models also create economic, social, and environmental value for a wide range of stakeholders.
A tool called the business model canvas that allows you to describe, design, challenge, invent, and pivot any business model.
The first element in describing a business model is the value proposition. The value proposition is the collection of products and services that meets the needs of your customers.
It answers the question of what are you building and for whom?
It is not about the features of your product or service or your sustainability program
It is about solving a problem or a need.
What problem are you solving and for whom?
The next thing is customer segments. Who are my customers? And why would they buy into my sustainability program?
Who are they?
What job are they trying to do?
What problems are they facing?
What frustrates them?
What inspires them?
Next is channels
How does your product or service get from here to your customer here?
We use distribution channels to deliver our product to our customers.
We have physical channels like shop fronts or delivery services.
We also have virtual channels - web, mobile, cloud based channels.
Next, we need to consider Customer Relationships
How are we going to find, keep and grow our customers?
Next is Revenue streams
This section asks us to think about how our business makes money from our customer segments?
How we capture value? What is the strategy to capture that value?
Next, we want to think about resources.
What resources or key assets to we need to make the business model work?
This could include money. Do we have enough capital to deliver our sustainability program?
What physical assets do we need? Do we need factories? Do we need renewable energy systems?
It could include intellectual property. Do we need to protect our idea with patents? Do we need certain corporate knowledge?
Or do we need certain people? Do we need design engineers? Do we need company cultural experts? What human resources do you need?
Next comes Key Activities
These are the most important activities you need to do the make the business model work.
Do you manufacture products?
Do you need to audit your supply chain?
Do you need to undertake any R&D?
We now consider Key Partners
What key partners do we need to make the business model work?
What is interesting is that your key partners have a link to your key resources and key activities.
What resources do they provide that supports the business model?
And what activities are they going to perform?
Finally we have the Cost Structure
Once we understand the key activities, resources, and partners, it is relatively easy now to understand the costs associated with delivering the business model.
What are the costs to operate the business?
What do we need to invest in our key resources?
How much will our key activities cost?
What will we need to pay to our partners?
For Sustainable business models, we add two additional sections to the business model canvas
The first is Beneficiaries
Who benefits from our sustainability program?
What organisations benefit?
Which customers?
What other stakeholders derive some economic, social, or environmental value?
The second extra segment captures the Sustainability benefits
To which of the UN Sustainable Development goals does our business model contribute?
What positive impacts are we delivering to our community and planet?
Using these eleven building blocks you can describe the infrastructure, the offering, the customers, the finances and the economic, social and environmental benefits of your sustainable business model.
You can also use this canvas to design, discuss, and communicate your sustainability programs in a language other people will actually understand.
Together we can make a huge impact.

SUMMARY
=======
Computer Aided Industrial Design (CAID) is a subset of computer-aided design (CAD) software that can assist in creating the look-and-feel, or industrial design aspects of a product in development.
CAID programs tend to provide designers with improved freedom of creativity compared to typical CAD tools. However a typical workflow may follow a simple design methodology as follows:
Creating sketches, using a stylus
Generating curves directly from the sketch
Generating surfaces directly from the curvesThe end result is generally a 3D model that represents the main intent of the designer had in mind for the physical product. Such models can then be saved in formats for more convenient exchange with others (such as OBJ for virtual viewing in 3D graphics programs) or manufacturing (such a STL to create a real-life model via a rapid prototyping machine). CAID helps the designer focus on the technical aspect of the design methodology rather than the sketching and modelling aspects, contributing to the selection of a better product proposal in less time. When product pre-requisites and parameters have been more completely defined, output from the CAID software can be imported into a CAD program for pre-production testing, adjustment, and generation of technical drawings and manufacturing data such as CNC tool-paths.
CAID is far more conceptual and less technically focused than CAD. CAID programs tend to offer more tools that allow a designer to freely express themselves with more organic shapes and complex curves, whilst CAD software tends to be more focused on tools for the simple curves and straight lines more suitable for easy manufacturing.
CAD implementations have evolved dramatically since initial 3D offerings in the 1970s, which were typically limited to producing drawings similar to hand-drafted output. Advances in programming and computer hardware,[21][22] notably solid modelling in the 1980s, have allowed more versatile applications of computers in design activities.

How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it.
Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed.
#logomeaning #logosecret #
Hyundai 0:33
The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands.
Adidas 0:52
The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day.
Apple 1:21
Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple.
Vaio 1:58
The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal.
Amazon 2:14
The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine.
Baskin Robbins 2:40
The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell.
Toyota 2:56
The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines.
Continental 3:28
Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel.
Formula 1 3:41
If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1.
Pinterest 3:59
On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P.
Beats 4:17
Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head.
Toblerone 4:32
The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears.
BMW 4:55
The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated.
LG 5:18
The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers.
Evernote 5:34
The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes.
Coca-Cola 5:57
In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country.

GENIUS HACKS FOR ANY SITUATION
These life hacks and tricks are gonna be unexpectedly helpful in numerous life situations.
If you often use eyewear you'll like these hacks.
If your glasses often fogging up, I advise you to rub some plain soap into the glasses and then wipe it up with a napkin as usual.
When your eyeglasses keep slipping down, take two rubber bands, tie them round the temples of the glasses. That's it, no more slipping down!
If you're just trying to pick up a new pair of glasses or buying eyewear for the first time, don't forget to take the table test. Simply put the eyeglasses right on the table and then carefully look at the glasses' temple tips, whether they both reach the table surface or not. If not, it means the temple tips are of different length! It may cause a lot of discomfort while wearing them.
In case you have high myopia of −6.00 diopters or more and accidentally lost your eyewear on the working desk. Grab your phone, turn on the camera and zoom in on the table surface until you see your glasses.
Another nasty problem every four-eyed probably faced - scratches on the lenses. Put some toothpaste on the lens and rub it in.
Did you know how handy plastic bags can be? You can use them as a smartphone case to protect your gadget from the damp and sand when you take it to the beach with you.
You can cook an awesome puffy omelet using plastic bag as well!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.

- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
