We live in times of unprecedented, disruptive change and uncertainty and most people find it challenging to thrive in those circumstances. If ‘design thinking’ is the new black, then thinking like a fashion design may just be the next big thing! This talk takes the idea of design thinking and translates it into a series of very practical tips that you can employ yourself, every day to help you think more optimistically in times of uncertainty and ambiguity. Professor Suzi Vaughan has settled (for now) in Brisbane, Australia having studied, lived and worked in Europe and Asia. After graduating from St Martins School of Art in London with a Ba Hons in Fashion, she started her professional career as a fashion designer, later moving into fashion education. How designers turn inspiration into fashion collections

05:11
How designers turn inspiration into fashion collections: In my previous videos, we talked about how to create a fashion collection. We will do more exercises now to better understand the steps of any collection. Apart from the text part of any documentation - the phase when you read a lot about the topic you are interested in- there is the visual documentation. In this case, I took another image from a book of mine and use it as a starting point for some sketches. How to actually get inspired by an image? Try to decompose the image into elements. See what are the definitory elements that compose the image. In this case, you could use elements like: the pattern with stripes, the color, the sleeves and the lower part of the costume, the structures you see in the area of eyes and those elements near the ears. Use them separately, combine them, use them as modules: big or small, rotate them and so on.I used the shapes near the ears and I placed them in the center of my costume. I imagined those shapes will have holes inside, so that you can see the skin or the layers of my costume. You can use the elements and place them in other parts of your costume. For example, some sleeves could become scarfs or you could undo them and sew them again in stripes to create a rhythm to your future garment. If you used a lot of volume for the upper part of your costume, try to simplify the rest, there is no need to over-work the whole costume. As about the drawing style, use details and a black marker to add the contrast here and there, where you feel the need. For the second drawing, turn the page upside down and get inspired. Even if the elements are the same, they position will inspire you to see even more in the photo, to discover inspiration there where you did not know it exist. See how used the "let's say glasses" from my source of inspiration and used them as earrings.Mix the elements and play with them in unusual combinations. When sketching, there is no need to think of the human body. You can draw it only when it helps, if not, the costume will be enough. Use simple lines and add color because this will help you visualize the outfit. Also, write down your ideas regarding the colors or textures to be used in the final work. And now sit back and see how I used another image to finish my small collection inspired by African art.As I previously mentioned, try to really sketch after the photos I used and send me your collection by email. My email is: [email protected] Waiting for your sketches and I will come back with a feed-back.Thank you and please don't forget to subscribe if you liked my video.

HOW TO MAKE A FASHION DESIGN PORTFOLIO FOR COLLEGE! (Example)

16:02
If you're interested in studying fashion design in college, you'll have to include a portfolio in your application. Portfolios are used so the college can see the talent you have, so this is your chance to design whatever you want. Make sure it's something you're proud of and represents who you are. I made my portfolio this summer at a 2 week college program. I learned all about the portfolio process and had to present the portfolio at the end. I got an 89% overall in the class (averaging in tests and assignments) and a 90% on the portfolio itself plus the presentation. I see that this only took me two weeks which is a very short time to make a portfolio, so I'm going to make a few changes before I submit it. Thanks for watching! Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Fashion Designers? [Amazon, Stitch Fix, Myntra]

07:12
Every time I visit any Fashion events, this has been one of the topics that often come up. Can Artificial Intelligence AI replace fashion designers? Fashion designer thinks it can not but tech folks say it can be done. So I started researching into what has been done and found 3 great examples for you. I want to give you a glimpse of what Amazon, Stitch Fix, and Myntra have been doing and using AI to design clothes. *************** Amazon: AI fashion designer *************** The effort points to ways in which Amazon and other companies could try to improve the tracking of trends in other areas of retail—making recommendations based on products popping up in social-media posts, for instance. And it could help the company expand its clothing business * “There’s been a whole move from companies like Amazon trying to understand how fashion develops in the world,” says Kavita Bala, a professor at Cornell University who took part in a workshop on machine learning and fashion organized by Amazon last week. A number of forward-thinking retailers are already using social networks like Instagram and Pinterest to track the latest fashion trends and react quickly. An Amazon team at Lab126, a research center based in San Francisco, has developed an algorithm that learns about a particular style of fashion from images, and can then generate new items in similar styles from scratch—essentially, a simple AI fashion designer. This work uses a cutting-edge tool called a generative adversarial network, or GAN. It consists of two deep neural networks operating in tandem to learn efficiently from raw data. The GAN internalizes the properties of a particular style simply by looking at lots of examples, and it can then apply that style to an existing item of clothing. *************** Stitch Fix *************** The in-house brand of subscription fashion startup Stitch Fix, Hybrid Designs employs a data science team that works with the company’s order data to predict which clothes customers will want to wear. The team identifies viable gaps in the company’s inventory—clothes that people would buy but a designer hasn’t made yet, says Stitch Fix chief algorithm officer Eric Colson. It works like this: A collection of three algorithms generate a starting point. The first algorithm picks three “parents,” recommended pieces of clothing that could be either combined or used as a template for a new piece. The second suggests three different attributes that have been shown to complement the parents’ style—maybe a different neckline or sleeves. And the third throws in a little bit of randomness, a suggestion that isn’t typical for the previously suggested style but might be interesting. Together, these algorithms search through a space of 30 trillion potential combinations of, for example, blouse attributes, to ultimately give just nine suggestions. *************** Myntra - Moda Rapido *************** Algorithms that would get their machines to produce images of T-shirts based on the discovered favorable attributes. It turned out that one category of the machine-created designs outsold the comparable category in each of the other 12 private brands owned by Myntra. Some of the other machine-created designs sold poorly, but the company knew they were onto something really big. “The core of the Rapid idea was to do fast fashion in an intelligent way, given that we have both a tech and a fashion DNA,” said Kenghe. “In the initial phase of the project, there was less machine and more designer-input. Over a period of time, there’s been more machine and less supervision.” Here&Now & Moda Rapido: By September, Moda Rapido and Here&Now were together bringing in sales of Rs12-13 crore every month, making them among the top 15 brands at Myntra. The two contribute 12.5% of Myntra’s private brand's sales, said, Narayanan. Moda Rapido and Here&Now are Myntra’s most profitable brands, **************** Other Videos You Might Like: **************** 13 Areas Artificial Intelligence will affect Fashion Industry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Lp51oiCTo What is Artificial Intelligence? Fashion Brand Failure: #1 Mistake Failed Fashion Designers Make & How to Avoid It

16:27
53% of Fashion Businesses fail within the first 4 years, according to Entrepreneur Magazine. In this video I cover 2 Topics: 1. The trap or the reason majority of first-time fashion designers tell themselves when they want to be in the fashion business. 2. A simple exercise that you as a future fashion designer must you do minimize your risk so you don’t add to clothing line failure rate and increase your chances of success. There are a number of reasons why clothing brands fail but in my experience, the #1 reason I have seen, especially for a new fashion designer is that they do not realize what is involved in running a fashion business. They often confuse their passion for fashion with fashion business. When you want to start a clothing business, its important understand that the goal of the fashion business is to make money. This tutorial lists how to find that difference and what are the costs involved in starting a fashion business that will cut in to a fashion designer's profit margin and could make the difference between a successful & failed fashion designer. ****************** Other videos: ****************** How to start a clothing line under $67? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JKL3xIc0Oc 8 Ways to Fund Your Clothing Business https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udT54wcRW-c

How fashion helps us express who we are -- and what we stand for | Kaustav Dey

No one thinks twice about a woman wearing blue jeans in New York City -- but when Nobel laureate Malala wears them, it's a political act. Around the globe, individuality can be a crime, and clothing can be a form of protest. In a talk about the power of what we wear, Kaustav Dey examines how fashion gives us a nonverbal language of dissent and encourages us to embrace our authentic selves. This Israeli Fashion Designer Creates Beautiful Minimalism

02:04
These beautiful clothes are created by fashion designer Maya Bash. She lives in Israel and designs from her studio in Tel Aviv. She learned how to do make these amazing creations when she got accepted to the prestigious Shenkar Academy when she was 21. At this most renowed fashion institute of Israel she studied Fashion Design. Now, Maya has gained international succes. She not only has an own store in Tel Aviv, but her items are being sold all over the world as well. From New York to Denmark and from Tokyo to Moscow: Maya’s collections are a hit. She has produced 17 collections, each one based on a specific theme. Inspiration And the collections are not only inspired by a specific theme, but also by one artist that Maya choses to collaborate with. This could be a filmmaker for instance, such as Max Lomberg, with who she worked together for the artistic short film The Wardrobe. An illustrater and photographer are other artists that Maya has worked with. Another inspiration for Maya is her heritage. While she is based in Tel Aviv, she was born in Russia, where she also spend part of her youth. Not only the simple and austere style of the Russian clothing in her youth, but also because of the ‘outsider’ perspective that the had on Tel Aviv and the conventions she had to adjust to and break. This made her design ‘deconstructed fashion’ where she pulls apart classic cuts and reassembles them. All these influences result in these beautiful garments. My biggest mistake as a Clothing Designer | Breaking Walls

When I was first starting out my clothing line, I thought it would be a breeze. However, the reality of it all hit when I realized that it takes a lot of time and that it's inevitable that you will go through some downhills. Fashion collection inspired by architecture, sculpture and painting

06:47
Fashion collection inspired by architecture, sculpture and painting Hi again! Thank you for leaving me comments on my videos. I am so happy when I receive messages and likes from you guys because this means I am on the right path and I should continue filming my videos. I am so happy that you find them useful and that I see so much interactivity in my channel:) I am almost done with all your comment requests and here we are today, making a special collection for all of you who asked to see an architecture, sculpture and painting inspired collection.I decided to play a little game with you, if you are willing to try it. At the end of each of my videos I will present you up to 10 inspirational pictures on the same topic. For example, this time I will post some architecture, sculptures and modern paintings for you to get inspired. What you will have to do is to make 3 to 5 sketches and send them to me on my email: [email protected] and I will give you a personal feed-back to each of you and then present it on my next video. So, the challenge starts today, and you will have to create 3-5 garments inspired by the pictures at the end of this video. All this, until next Thursday. Waiting for your emails:) And now, let's enjoy the video:) As always, I started by sketching in pencil my fashion sketches. First I searched on Pinterest and Google and I was inspired by some modern buildings and interior decorations. I always search for interesting forms because otherwise, if the form is too simple, the costume will look poor and not attractive, nor interesting. It is nice to create minimalist outfits but for that, I will do another video when finishing these series. So, as I said, try to decompose what you see in small pieces. Is it the structure that inspires you? Or a glass surface of a building? The fact that if you turn upside down the image you will see other things that could inspire? Try them all and play with the source of inspiration. Also, there is no need to explore all these parts in all your drawings. Only one element could be enough but don;t worry, even if you overcrowded a dress, you could always sketch it again and simplify it. I am not interested in the color now because structure is construction is all i need. The color and textures, you can add them later. Going to the next theme, the modern sculpture helped me to imagine big and asymmetric volumes. The holes can be replaced by patterns or folding or they can be left as holes if you want. For the second drawing I was in love with the wrinkles and dynamic forms of the sculpture. I immediately thought of a nice ivory dress exploring the foldings. For the upper part i imagined tridimensional volumes but for the lower part i thought of just using lines to create graphic flat and fake folding. I considered adding volume everywhere could be too much, so I reduce it and left it only in the upper part of my outfit. For the third costume, I said i could use Pierre Soulages abstract paintings. Soulages is a French painter, engraver, and sculptor who was called "the painter of black"- the reasons are obvious, i guess. The stripes inspired me to create a costume by overlapping stripes in multiple directions: diagonals, verticals or horizontals. Going to my next 3 sketches, once again I used an Pierre Soulages painting. I had to add the beautiful blue because this is in fact what a sketch does. If you will look at it in a few years, you should remember even the source of inspiration. I had to capture the blue, so I choose to add colors on this sketch. If you will decide later what colors should have your outfit, there is no need to add it right now. The second outfit was inspired by and abstract sculpture that reminded me of a Romanian sculpture, Ovidiu Maitec. The holes and the organic shapes were something that I had to explore and use. As about the last one, the stretched fibers and draping and also the color inspired me to create a vibrant dress in a fine transparent material. Hope you enjoyed my video and now, see the images for my challenge for next week. Also, if you did not subscribed yet, please do. Thank you and take care:)

Fashion Designer Katharina Kaesbach

00:42
Flyer von Modedesignerin Katharina Kaesbach www.katharina-kaesbach.com BIOGRAPHY KATHARINA KAESBACH Born 1974 in Berne, Switzerland, Katharina Kaesbach - the eldest of three siblings - developed very quickly into a headstrong girl. Having grown up in a castle with lots of space and walk-in-cabinets she changed lace curtains into wallowing dresses and bought clothes at factory sales for 5 German Marks per kilo and changed them into something daring but wearable. To suit her moods. Because each mood was different and had to be dressed accordingly. When she was 14, she performed as an actress on the street, showing off her creations. She passed the obligatory schools in the vicinity of Stuttgart, Germany, refusing to attend college and left home at 16 years of age. From 1990 - 1992 she worked with severely handicapped adults in Fulda, close to Kassel, Germany. But her vocation at the time was dancing and she dared to apply to a dancing-school in Holland, which only took pupils aged 21 with a college education. With unyielding perseverance she gained entrance, was permitted to start her dance studies in 1992 and gained her bachelor degree in 1997 after 51/2 years. In between, when she was 19 years of age, she married Christian Kaesbach. The couple moved to Salzburg, Austria, where Katharina acted as a dancing teacher from 1997 to 2000, starting at the same time with her husband a wholesale company for ballet and dancing shoes, acting worldwide from California to Japan. Nevertheless her love for individual fashion did not wane and she continued to design, cut and sew her own dresses. The turning point in her life happened in 2003, when a well-known and influential society lady from Germany visited her shop and insisted on having Katharina’s outfit copied and produced immediately. Hence the next step: a new company by the name of „Cobra Couture“ was founded in 2004. Consequently the ballet shop, which still exists today, was sold in 2006. In 2009 the brandname „Cobra“ was reclaimed by another fashion house. Therefore, at long last, Katherina and Christian Kaesbach took the decision to operate from here on solely under the name of „Katherina Kaesbach“. In the years leading up to her first fashion show 2015 in New York she never changed her unique elegant style, working with only the best of materials while creating - although not a trained couturier - revolutionary cuts and fittings. First and foremost Katharina Kaesbach is a designer with a philosophy: to enhance the natural beauty of women through fashion, to invigorate their self confidence and to enhance their personality. Another jewel in the crown of her collection of dresses and accessories will be her perfume which will be launched in the summer of this year. Follow her news on www.katharina-kaesbach.com or visit her exquisite shop in Salzburg/ Austria at Sigmund-Haffner Gasse 14.

The Frock Fashion Line Designs Stylish Clothes for Orthodox Jewish Women | New York Post

03:16
Two Orthodox sisters living in Brooklyn want to break the stigma associated with dressing modestly. Australian transplants Simi Polonsky and Chaya Chanin are the creators of a fashion label, The Frock NYC, which adheres to the dress code required in the Orthodox Jewish community but does so with a fashionable flair. #Jewish #fashion #clothes #orthodox #style Orthodox and Hasidic women — who are required wear skirts or dresses and must cover their knees, shoulders, neckline and other areas of their bodies deemed “immodest” — can now do so while expressing their personal style. Two Orthodox sisters living in Brooklyn want to break the stigma associated with dressing modestly. Australian transplants Simi Polonsky and Chaya Chanin are the creators of fashion label The Frock NYC, which adheres to the strict dress code required in the Orthodox Jewish community — but does so with a fashionable flair. Orthodox and Hasidic women must cover their knees, shoulders, neckline and other areas of their bodies deemed “immodest.” “To the average person, the stereotype of an Orthodox Jewish woman and many modest-dressing women is that they’re dowdy, unattractive and frumpy,” Polonsky told The Post. As a teen, Polonsky struggled to adhere to the dress code, prompting her to work on creative ways to cover up without crimping her personal style and forming the basis for her eventual fashion line. “It was so uncool to dress modest. I didn’t want to be uncool, so how can we coolify being modest,” the designer told The Post. Shternie Mangami and Zelda Volkov count themselves as big fans of the brand and praise it for making shopping easier. “It was always hard for me to find cute clothing because of our modest restrictions, and I find that that’s what attracts everyone to them — that they’re so fun and hip and exciting,” Volkov told The Post. While The Frock’s designs are considered demure by many standards, critics of the label argue any push towards modernity is controversial and hurts the community. “I can’t believe that this woman in this community or these women are wearing this and promoting this, and what’s gonna happen to our children. If our daughters see this, what’s the next thing?” Chanin said of the reaction she has received from some of her peers. Rabbi Simon Jacobson explained, “It’s a real raw-nerve type of topic. It touches the buttons.” Controversy aside, the label has cultivated a following. The owners, who founded the business in 2010, said they started out small by dressing women in their Jewish community but now have customers all over the globe. The designers see no conflict between their traditional dress code and free expression. “We live in America, the country that is governed by probably the most laws that you can, and we’re known as the land of the free. So to us, having guidelines and boundaries doesn’t take away our freedom,” Polonsky told The Post. Jacobson said even though the fashion label is controversial, he believes it is ultimately positive for the Jewish community. “I love the idea that people are attempting to bridge the two worlds. To show that traditional Judaism is very much with the times, can be very cool, can be very hip, can be very fashionable and beautiful,” Jacobson told The Post. To listen to my podcast where I talk with some of the best, most experienced people in the fashion industry: https://spoti.fi/2VdcANv Make sure you subscribe and comment for future videos! -------------------- What do you think about when you see an all-black outfit? Exactly! Fashion designers. This is obviously not the case for every designer out there, however, a lot of fashion designers prefer having the same simple outfits, instead of very complex and elaborate pieces of clothing. This is a topic that found very interesting, and something I did not understand at all until I started my fashion business journey. When you finally start your fashion brand you will start noticing that your priorities will change a lot. Instead of caring about what you look like, you will only worry about being able to create the best fashion products out there. That being said, I hope you enjoy this video and most importantly, that you use the trick that we talk about in this video! ------------------- To listen to my podcast where I talk with some of the best, most experienced people in the fashion industry: https://spoti.fi/2VdcANv Make sure you subscribe and comment for future videos!

Wool4School fashion design experience

01:15
Wool4School is a real-life fashion design experience tailored for the classroom, with big rewards available for both students and teachers. It is open to Australian students studying design and technology, textile design, home economics and visual art from year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, who are asked to design an original outfit made from one of the world’s most innovative and natural fibres Australian Merino wool. This year the competition celebrated the five decades of fashion the Woolmark brand has been involved with. The theme was a lot of fun, as it involved entrants picking one of the various fashion eras from the past 50 year. The winner of the 2014 competition had her ’60s-themed design turned into reality by fashion designer Jonathan Ward along with a photo shoot for Girlfriend magazine. Visit: http://www.wool4school.com to know more about entering the 2015 competition and register online at http://www.wool4school.com/competition/register/

kiid dm : Dongdaemoon Fashion Town Service Design Project

03:04
kiid DM 2014 Design Methodology Class Final School of Art & Design, Korea University. 고려대학교 디자인조형학부 UX 디자인 과제결과물 2014 디자인 방법론 수업 (3학년) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Course Title : Design Methodologies Course Grade : Junior Grade ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Design Topic : Dongdamoon Fashion Town Service Design Project Designers : Hyein Roh (Korea), Hojin Jeong(Korea), Sunghwan Moon(Korea), Yuna Choi(Korea) Year : 2014 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description : Dongdaemoon is one of the Asia’s most famous and biggest fashions town that attracts many customers from travelers to whole sale merchants. However, the whole service experience is still out dated and not smart enough. The design team has tracked stakeholders in the service cycle of DDM market and tried to clarify the pain points of users with contextual inquiry methods. The journey map, interview, ethnography and survey reveled that the delivery and confusion in loading station, disconnectivity between the information system and the physical market process was the pain points. The suggested solution is combined with simple sticky color tag and the application hooked up to the digital codes in the color tag. All users have to do is just to attach the tag onto their shopping bag and activate the app. The DDM delivery service is to bring the whole shoppings to users’ door and all trajectory is tracked out.
Manish Malhotra Designer dress

04:10
#Ekara......hey friends welcome for my channel....,......,today's topic Manish Malhotra.......Couturier, #costume stylist, entrepreneur, social media influencer and revivalist. Manish Malhotra’s prolific career spanning 27 years has seen him redefine fashion for an entire generation of Indians. Manish Malhotra started his career as a model, while studying at the Elphinstone College in Mumbai. Though he did not have formal fashion design training, Manish’s love for sketching, passion for cinema and penchant for clothes, saw him veer towards costume styling. He revolutionized costume designing and introduced the concept of styling in #Bollywood after his first film as a designer for Juhi Chawla-starrer ‘Swarg’ A firm believer that costume was an integral part of visual story-telling, Manish clearly marked his foothold in the fashion industry by winning the first Filmfare Costume Award ever conferred for the film ‘Rangeela’. Ever since then, Manish has brought his inimitable aesthetic to costume design and styling for the country’s leading actors and style icons.2015 was a milestone year for Manish Malhotra as it marked 25 years of his association with Hindi cinema as a designer and stylist and 12 years since the creation of the eponymous label. He has presented his collections not only at Fashion Weeks in India but also at showcases across the globe. The label enjoys the distinction of having had the most runway showcases in the Indian fashion industry. From his work with Hindi cinema’s influential leading-ladies to launching his eponymous label in 2005, Manish Malhotra tells design stories in a language profuse with elegance, ultra-femininity and unapologetic glamour. One of Manish’s first international assignments was to design a custom-made traditional outfit for Michael Jackson, during the King of Pop’s visit to India in the late 1990’s. He has also styled Jean-Claude Van Damme, Reese Witherspoon in Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair, Kylie Minogue, Jermaine Jackson and his wife Halima. He has also designed the wedding outfits for the Princess of Riyadh. In the year of 2016, the designer associated with Director Feroz Abbas Khan for his ambitious musical adaptation of ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. The costumes were designed keeping in the mind the authenticity yet are extravagant with a signature Manish Malhotra touch which comes through in the use of color, embroidery not sequins, and the reliance on rich brocades, silks and velvet. The wardrobe took 3 months to make totalling 550 outfits including understudies......…..#manish malhotra,#manish malhotra latest collection,#manish malhotra lehenga,#designer manish malhotra lehenga,#manish malhotra designs,#manish malhotra lehenga collection,#manish malhotra collection,#lehenga designs by manish malhotra,#manish malhotra lehenga collection 2017,#manish malhotra designer,#manish malhotra wedding dress,#manish malholtra designing dress,#manish malhotra designer lehenga
