How Zara Took Over The Industry Using Fast Fashion

04:02
Today, we’re going to look at the history of Zara, its parent company Inditex, and the fashion industry in general, to see how it became possible to create such a high churn rate in the fashion industry. An average American will throw away 77 pounds of clothing every year. And that’s true across the majority of the western world. That is two suitcases of clothes, just dumped. Zara’s first store opened in 1975, in a city called A Coruna in northern Spain. Owners Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera had wanted to name it after a favorite Greek film called Zorba the Greek, but a bar on their street had already beat them to the punch, so they settled for Zara, since they had already had the letters made for the sign. Inditex was set up in 1985 as holding company for Zara and the manufacturing plants. They went on to set up and take-over many other high-street brands that follow Zara’s format; such as Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius. They now have over 6000 stores globally. Zara’s early business model was to create similar copies to high end lines but at an affordable price. As they expanded through Spain, Ortega pushed the idea of instant fashion, where Zara could react incredibly quickly to new trends so they could put new lines on the shelves in a fraction of the normal time. -----------------Support the channel: Support this channel: https://www.patreon.com/alexberman SUBSCRIBE for more videos like this: http://youtube.com/alxberman?sub_confirmation=1 Check out our Digital Agency Marketing Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/hr/podcast/digital-agency-marketing-1/id1200614219?mt=2&ls=1 Need lead generation or marketing support for your agency? A solution for a sustainable fashion industry | Fredrik Wikholm | TEDxGöteborg

14:21
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Every year we throw away 30 kg of clothes, and the textile industry is one of the world’s top 5 polluters. So, how can we make the fashion industry more sustainable? It’s easy, claims social scientist and Creative Director Fredrik Wikholm, we just need ethics, environment and economics to be buddies. With his new innovation “The Rag Bag” Fredrik challenges the business to take action now, before it’s too late. It was the creative mindset and will to change, rather than skills in textile design that brought Fredrik Wikholm and his snowboard collective to start up a fashion brand that focused on sustainability. Now he’s taking recycling to the next level with an open-source innovation institute to pave ways for the fashion industry to make more sustainable choices. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Fashion Behind the Iron Curtain. The Story of Fashion industry in USSR

25:49
Those born with artistic taste and a love of all beauty were doomed if they were born in the Soviet Union. Practicality and uniformity dictated all spheres of life, including fashion. Our heroes begged to differ, becoming the vivid flecks on the Iron Curtain’s drab surface. Strange as it may sound, it was not fashionable to be fashionable in the USSR. The Soviet Union dictated that people should wear simple clothes made of cheap, rudimentary materials that would better suit the working class. But there is always someone who wants to think – and dress – outside the box. Slava Zaitsev and Leka Mironova were among those people in the USSR. Karl Lagerfeld - fashion designer and icon | DW Documentary

42:26
Karl Lagerfeld - the name stands for much more than just fashion. What makes the fashion icon so successful? Who’s the man behind the sunglasses? Designer, artist, fashion icon, also known as "Kaiser Karl." No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, is as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses will celebrate his 85th birthday - it’s believed. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments are notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld works in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Fashion your future: Think more like a fashion designer | Suzi Vaughan | TEDxQUT

12:26
We live in times of unprecedented, disruptive change and uncertainty and most people find it challenging to thrive in those circumstances. If ‘design thinking’ is the new black, then thinking like a fashion design may just be the next big thing! This talk takes the idea of design thinking and translates it into a series of very practical tips that you can employ yourself, every day to help you think more optimistically in times of uncertainty and ambiguity. Professor Suzi Vaughan has settled (for now) in Brisbane, Australia having studied, lived and worked in Europe and Asia. After graduating from St Martins School of Art in London with a Ba Hons in Fashion, she started her professional career as a fashion designer, later moving into fashion education. Since 2011 she has been part of the executive team of a large Australian university. With over thirty years’ experience of design practice and teaching, she has become an advocate for the power and potential of design thinking. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

HOW THE FASHION INDUSTRY EXPLOITS RAPPERS!

05:55
Style and the Rap genre have gone hand in hand since the beginning, from big brands like Nike and Adidas track suits, followed by Air Jordans, and then at one point switching to more higher end fashion brands. Most notable in making this happen would have to be Kanye West with his love for POLO Ralph Lauren which is a brand every rapper has shouted out at least once. The Louis Vuitton backpacks he would be wearing and eventual his own Nike Air Yeezy and now his Yeezy 350, 750, 700, and many others he has teamed up with adidas to create along with his own fashion line. The fashion industry wasn't very welcoming of most rappers though and it isn't until recently we're seeing them invite the most popular ones to their fashion shows. It's almost become a staple now that once any new rapper makes it to a certain level their entire style and wardrobe changes to brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada, Givenchy, Goyard, and more. ASAP Rocky helped open up the fans eyes to not just these fashion houses but the fashion designers like in his song RAF, an ode to Raf Simons. He has also frequently mentioned Virgil Abloh, Rick Owens, and others in his music as well name dropping and helping elevate brands such as HBA and Pyrex back in 2011. These rappers are making a lot of money and giving a lot of publicity for these designers and brands and they must be pleased with it. But they are just that, pleased. If they respected these rappers they would pay them to promote their products in advertisements and if the rappers respected their influence they would require payment before doing so but neither of those situations are currently happening. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAURI9aCzKBTRsXx6gXnddg?sub_confirmation=1 Twitter:https://twitter.com/hello_yassine Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/helloyassine/

Fast fashion to fair fashion: a toolbox to change the fashion industry | TEDx Talk | Justine Leconte

18:19
My TEDx talk is online! I was invited to speak about fast fashion at TEDxUniversityofMacedonia, in Thessaloniki, Greece. Instead of pointing at the negative effects that fast fashion brands have on the garment workers in the producing countries, I took on a more positive approach and made it a concrete "toolbox" to help individual consumers raise their awareness and change their behaviours. I think change starts with the consumer. Thumbs up if you liked this video :-) New videos: Wednesday 4pm & Sunday 12pm (Paris/Berlin time). Take care! Part II Counterfeit Culture Moscow https://youtu.be/MwJTT1D2PbE In recent years, Korea has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing fashion markets. Koreans are obsessed with fashion, and the country produces scores of talented designers, many of whom are now breaking out onto the global stage. Beneath the surface, though, there’s an insane market for counterfeit streetwear.
