Hot Food - Kids' Poems and Stories With Michael Rosen

01:03
Hot Food - Read by Michael Rosen fro The Hypnotiser You can browse and buy Michael Rosen Books here: http://bit.ly/MichaelRosenBooks "I wrote a book of poems for children called 'The Hypnotiser' some years ago and then it went out of print. I couldn't get anyone to reprint it, so I asked my son Joe to film me performing the book." - Michael Rosen Check out Michael's website for news, updates and fun. https://www.michaelrosen.co.uk Go behind the scenes and see how our videos are made: https://workbyjoe.wordpress.com/2015/... Who is Michael Rosen? My first book for children was called Mind Your Own Business and it came out in 1974. Quentin Blake did wonderful line drawings for it. Ever since then, I’ve been doing these things: Writing books Writing articles for newspapers and magazines Going to schools, libraries and theatres and performing the poems in my books Helping children write poems and stories Making radio programmes, mostly about words, language or books Appearing on TV, either reading books, or talking about books Teaching at universities about children’s literature Running workshops for teachers about poetry In any week, I might be doing all of these things! To tell the truth, I don’t really know what I’m doing tomorrow, unless I look in my diary to see. Review Right class 6, RIGHT CLASS 6, I'm talking, I'm talking, I want complete quiet and that includes you, David Alexander, yes you...' 'The Outing', by Michael Rosen, just one of the fantastic and hilarious poems from his short story and poetry collection The Hypnotiser. This particular poem was read to me as a young child in primary school time and time again. Each time the names in the poem were changed to the names of the pupils in my class. It never got old, or less hilarious and I wouldn't hesitate in reading this to my future classes during my teaching career. Other great poems from this collection include 'The Car Trip'; a highlight of the sibling chaos that goes on in the back of the car when Mum is driving: 'He started it. I didn't. He started it...', 'Tomato 1'; the gruelling ordeal of being given a tomato to eat by your mother and you simply just hate tomatoes, and 'Tidy Your Room'; every child's nightmare. Each and every poem and short story relates to children through typical experiences that most would have endured. This book enlightens children's love and enthusiasm for poetry, an almost forgotten about genre for most children; a runner up to fiction books. This book can have many uses in the classroom; appropriate for children in Key Stage Two it can be read by the teacher at the end of the day during story time, like in my own experience at primary school. Or, during a poetry topic in Literacy, this book could model fun, interesting, age appropriate poetry that will inspire children to write their own poems. Likewise for shared reading; this book would be fantastic to put under the visualiser and look through with the class at the how poems are written, their structure, do they rhyme? do they tell a story? All sorts of things can be addressed with the class as a whole. This book needs to be shown to children, whether at school on the class bookshelf, or online where you can find video clips of Michael Rosen performing these poems; a great filler for those odd five minutes that arise during the busy school day. A Must read, not just for children but teachers as well! #Michael Rosen #Kids #Poetry

Put a Glass on Your Door Handle, It Will Save Your Life!

09:36
How to stay safe while traveling? Now and then magazines, newspapers, and websites publish lists of the safest and the most dangerous travel destinations. But in fact, there’s always a chance of being robbed or attacked in any country in the world. When you’re unfamiliar with your surroundings, it can make you vulnerable to people looking to take advantage of you. Before going on a trip to another city or country, it’s better to consider your safety in advance. Luckily, there are some great hacks you can use to make your travels safe and worry-free, like putting a glass on the door handle of your hotel room! Other videos you might like: 16 Questions That Could Save Your Child’s Life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-q3__UEKtw& 10 Tips to Survive a Kidnapping According to the Police https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17NzL6kkHUY& The Only Way to Survive in a Free Falling Elevator https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_HgPXgJ16I TIMESTAMPS: Put a glass on your doorknob 0:39 Download maps and translations to access them offline 1:22 Use a dummy wallet 2:02 Email yourself important documents as a backup 2:39 Stay in a hotel room on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floor 3:12 Hang the “Do Not Disturb Sign” even if you’re not there 3:58 Don’t say personal information out loud when checking in 4:37 Cover that peephole! 5:13 Don’t use the hotel safe 6:06 Avoid unsecure Internet connections 6:42 Use cabs cautiously 7:51 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Slip a drinking glass onto the door handle of your hotel room, on your side. That way, if someone turns the knob as you’re sleeping, the glass will fall and alert you that someone has opened the door. - Before going on your trip, download translated phrases from language apps. That way, in case you can’t access the Internet, you’ll still know how to say things like, “Where’s the bathroom?” - Use a second wallet in addition to your regular one as a “dummy wallet.” You can even fill it with fake cash or plastic cards so that it looks legit. If you get pickpocketed or, even worse, mugged in the street, the perp won’t make off with your real wallet. - In the hustle and bustle of travel, it’s pretty easy to lose important documents like your license or passport, especially when you’re taking them in and out of your bag to show authorities. If you’re worried about losing these precious documents, scan them and email the copies to yourself. - Choosing a room between the 2nd and 4th floors puts you at less risk of being robbed. That’s because thieves typically hit the first or ground floor since it’s easier to get away fast. - Even if you’re not around, leaving the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door makes staff and potential thieves think that you’re in there. If you want to take things a step further, turn your TV on at a low volume and leave it on when you head out. - There have actually been cases of people being spied on and even filmed through these peepholes! This is a total violation of privacy! So by taping some paper over the peephole of your hotel room door, you can really protect yourself. - Hotel safes are a great way to keep your jewelry, money, and important documents secure, right? Believe it or not, they’re actually the first things thieves go for when robbing a room. - When you’re traveling, you’ll stumble upon a number of cafes, bookshops, and restaurants with open Wi-Fi. While this is super convenient, it’s also super unsafe. - When getting into a cab while traveling, don’t ever say that you’re a tourist. This immediately makes you a target! The driver may assume you don’t know anything about your surroundings and take advantage of you, like driving longer to hike up your fare. 15 Strange Things That Seem Normal Only In South Korea

10:42
South Korea is a dream travel destination for many, an absolutely fantastic culture, a country of contrasts, where modern technologies and ancient Eastern traditions harmoniously combine into something totally unique in and of itself. Every journey to this amazing country reveals countless new secrets and mysteries. These crazy yet amazing facts South Korea might astonish you. Photo credits: https://m.pikabu.ru/profile/AdaKwon (2:57, 3:49, 4:41, 7:44) People in Korea really love practical gifts like this and especially ones that can be eaten. For example, management at one South Korean company presented their employees with food baskets. The Korean New Year usually takes place in January or February, depending on the time of the second new moon after the winter solstice. South Korea is home to the most visited church in the world with a parish consisting of over 1 million people a year. There's an established gift-giving culture in Korea with certain rules. For example, big gifts to teachers or public officials are considered bribes. And when somebody visits your home in this country, you can be sure that they’ll bring a drink, dessert, or fruit. In Seoul, there's a subway train dedicated to a comedy animated series called “Larva”. It runs on the green line 8 times a day and features two of the cartoon’s main characters in every car. Koreans are not very familiar with Western traditions, and they don't even have geography at school. At the same time, they'd be happy to tell you anything you want to know about K-pop singers and bands. You need to be attentive, and when you see the bus you need, you have to signal for it to stop. -In the majority of Korean supermarkets, there are unlimited samples for you to test. -A traditional gift at a housewarming party is a few rolls of toilet paper. -Koreans celebrate “Seollal”, or “New Year”, for 3 days: the day before, on, and after the New Year. -Each kindergarten has a specific uniform in a certain color so that kids don't get lost in the crowd during fieldtrips and walks around the city. -About 4 times a year, big churches arrange free visits to dentists and hairstylists for their parish. -Elementary students have classes from 9 AM to 6 PM, middle-schoolers go home at 10 PM, and high-schoolers sometimes have to study until one in the morning. -Couples use social media to brag, have cute little celebrations every 100 days, and even arrange romantic vacations almost every month and display their “in-love” status with the help of matching outfits. -South Korean parents and children like to show their gratitude to a teacher by giving them candy or a cup of coffee. -There are lots of themed subway cars dedicated to certain cartoon characters. -Koreans practically never listen to music or watch movies from other countries. -Modern Korean cuisine is really healthy. They usually eat grilled meat (without oil), a lot of vegetables and plants, and rice. -You won’t find any trash bins on the streets in South Korea because the people there are super tidy. -Office workers are now required, by law, to turn off their computers on Friday evening. 25 SIMPLE RESIN CRAFTS THAT WILL DEFINITELY LEAVE YOU INSPIRED

15:20
SIMPLE RESIN CRAFTS It looks like if I’m going to want to tackle this resin trend, I’m going to need to invest in some new craft tools. It’s definitely a specialized craft that will require a few new things. Here’s what I’m considering. Resin – Shocker! You need some resin to make a resin craft. There are different types for different applications, so if you start a project, make sure you get the right stuff! Heat Gun or Butane Torch – They help get rid of bubbles. I also saw one tutorial that used a lamp placed directly over the project so that it was getting some heat from the light bulb. Dremel Multi Tool – I saw the Dremel multi tool used for a couple of different purposes. It was used to sand and polish the resin to get that glossy shine. It was also used as a drill in some of the jewelry tutorials I found so that the chain could be added to the pendant. Packing Tape – I was surprised to see packing tape included in many of the smaller scale projects that I found. It helps to keep your piece from moving around and stops the resin from pouring out of the bottom/sides of your project. Straws – This is another odd ball thing to use, but many of the tutorials called for using a straw to blow out the bubbles that might be in the project. This is especially true near the summit, which is also the most dangerous leg of the climb. That means when climbers attempt to scale the world’s highest mountain, they’ll come across some of these bodies. But what’s morbidly fascinating is that these bodies are often used as distance markers to the summit. Text version: http://www.toptenz.net/10-people-who-never-left-mount-everest.php Coming up: 10.
