**WARNING** If you are considering staying at this hotel, watch my video to the very end - there is a story to be told...
I arrived in Dresden on the train from Leipzig, Dresden Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) was a 7 minute walk from my next port of call, which was the A&O Hotel and Hostel. I had booked a single room for 60 Euro, room only (no breakfast included).
Upon arriving at the hotel, I found friendly staff, who checked me in quickly. My room was as requested on a high floor with a street view (I like to see what's going on).
Unfortunately the room was very small and cramped with too much furniture in the for the space that was available. Needless to say that I rearranged it to my satisfaction, and was left happy with my room (watch the video to see what I did).
The video gives a detailed bedroom and bathroom inspection, as well as showing footage of the lifts, corridor, pay internet / phone room, lobby, reception and the outside terrace. I initially liked this hotel but would not recommend in to other visitors to Dresden, as I was robbed there.
I was awoken at 5:40am by a sound, I looked up to see a man leaving my room with my jacket in his hand. I was staying in a single room, on my own. my room was locked, yet somehow, somebody managed to enter it. The rooms had no safe, and I was due to fly home at 11:00am, so had packed my bags ready, and hung my jacket up with my wallet, passport, flight ticket and 300 Euro in the pocket. I was actually in my room, asleep, when the perpetrator entered my room, he woke me, but he managed to grab my jacket and flee before I got out of bed.
I chased after him, but he was long gone. He used the stairwells and not the lift, and in doing so avoided the CCTV. The thief had targeted my room on a high floor at the end of a corridor (I believe) purposefully. I also believe that he had a knowledge of the hotel. He managed to access my room with either a key card, or a tool that he used to open the door.
The Police were called, and I had to take statements. Watch the video to see and hear what happened fully. The upshot of this was, that a member of staff eventually found my jacket in a stairwell. the thief had only taken my 300 Euro, so at least I managed to get my flight home.
A&O did not accept and responsibility, but by means of apology, offered me two free nights accommodation. I am undecided as to whether or not I will ever stay in one of their hostels again, but I will never ever stay in this hostel again, and do not recommend it to other visitors to Dresden.
