How To Start Playing Magic: The Gathering - A Beginner's Guide To MTG

09:11
The Best Gaming Cases: http://youtu.be/2Aw3j3Mj5Ls A Guide To Playmats: http://youtu.be/0HOjmAB4WaA What Are The Best Binders: http://youtu.be/H5IauASYWjk The Best Card Sleeves: http://youtu.be/w-aAeIZSNWw How To Start Playing Magic: The Gathering - A Beginner's Guide The following is a 6 step guide to starting Magic: The Gathering from absolute scratch. This is not a video that teaches you how to play the game, but rather guides you in your purchases and decision making so that you can go from having never played Magic: The Gathering before, to being able to attend store events and regularly play games. Please note: As always, this video is only meant as guidance, not absolute rules. it is one path, one method of many, but it only a suggestion. It is designed with the goal of being able to play regularly at store events, but that may not be your own personal goal when it comes to Magic. Still, even if you are looking to achieve different things from this game, perhaps by seeing one path people can take, you might discover new ideas that help you meet your needs. The importance of friend or partner: If you'll allow me one more preamble, I'd like to stress the importance of having a friend or partner to play with. The most important thing you can do as a new player is...to play. Practice, practice, practice, and in order to do this, it helps to have a practice partner. Going into this game with a friend or lover is a huge advantage, as you'll always have someone to play with and learn with. I'm a major advocate of couples getting into Magic together, as it gives you both a fun and engaging activity that you can share with one another. If you don't know anyone who is interested in learning with you, or who already plays, don't despair. Magic is a highly social game. Hanging out at your local game store isn't just how you get in games, it is also how you meet people and make friends. So where do you begin from absolute scratch? Step 1: Buy Duels of the PlanesWalkers 2014 Step 2: Get 2 Quick Start Decks. Step 3: Join your store's league Step 4: Play a Draft Step 5: If a prerelease or launch is upcoming, attend. Step 6: Put your first standard deck together. Previously known as Fat Packs, bundles have both expanded and refined themselves in regards to what they offer and how well they offer it. One of the higher priced products for players to procure, let’s look at what precisely these are packed with and whether it is worth buying. Because at an MSRP of 42.99 this is either a chest stuffed with treasure or, quite possibly fool’s gold. Let’s explore! Please note: This video will be examining the current contents of the Ixalan bundle, but since bundles remain more or less identical from set to set, this video can be treated as current or up to date until such time as bundle contents have changed enough to warrant an update, or the product gets renamed again. Everyone watching this who buys packs over the counter, whether a bunch at once or maybe, you pick up a pack or two every so often from your LGS, and then over the course of a set you’ve bought 10. Here’s the first question. If you saw the Bundle Box, well boxes, the Set Guide, the bent, permanently creased crappy poster, the land pack, and a spindown all sitting on the counter at your LGS and priced at 2.99, would you pick it up. Because that’s what you are doing here. Want this for 2.99 and you were going to buy 10 packs over the counter at 4 bucks each, that’s a bundle. Is this stuff worth getting? The box itself is significantly better than previous fat pack styles. Notice the vertical lip, exposing part of the box for easy access. This allows you to always be able to easy grip and open your bundle box. Inside I just love that there’s this extra cardboard compartment. Holds slightly over 100 double sleeved cards. Great for keeping your active deck or favorited cards separate from the rest of what you are storing in the bundle box.

Keeping track of your life total, as well as the life total of your opponent, is a critically important task for Magic: The Gathering. So too is tracking power and toughness changes to any creatures under your control, as well as counters that may be placed on those creatures, or tokens put into play by spells you control. In order to facilitate this, there are many Magic: The Gathering life pads, tokens, counters and dice offered by many different companies. This video will examine some of the accessories from Turn 1 Games, the made for Magic Tarmogoyf Power/Toughness dice from both Chimera Craft and Tiny Tokens, as well as the LifeCalc from Legion. Pauper Event Decks - The Professor Proposes a Product for Magic: The Gathering

Imagine for a moment Wizards of the Coast said the following: We are excited to introduce a new deck product to support the Pauper format. This is meant to be in line with the Event Decks we have released for specific sets, except this is not set-specific and is for Pauper, rather than for Standard. Get started with the deep-strategy and classic gameplay Pauper format in style! Draw on common, but high-powered Magic cards from throughout Magic's history with this tightly constructed 60-card deck. Also includes a 15-card sideboard, strategy guide, Spindown life counter, and a deck box. MSRP: $24.99 Languages: English, Japanese, French, German, and Chinese (Simplified) So my question is: How well do you think this product would sell? And how much do you think this product would benefit not only the Pauper format, but the larger ecosystem of Magic: The Gathering. Fully upgraded, top tier Pauper decks, ready to play right out of the box for $24.99. I believe the answer to both those questions is, a lot, and I propose this is a product Wizards of the Coast should consider offering. Let’s take a look at the how and why. The first thing I want to say about Wizards of the Coast offering these proposed Pauper Event Decks is that there’s a lot of Commander, and once Wizards embraced Commander, it became a cash cow for them and a major foundation of the game as well. Building more blocks like this only benefits the game, both in terms of player engagement, enjoyment, retention and satisfaction, and also, yeah, company profits. Originally called Elder Dragon Highlander, or EDH, Commander was a player created format that became a favorite for causal gameplay at GPs. It grew fast and strong over the years, but Wizards of the Coast was very reluctant to get behind it. It wasn’t until the company took a chance on offering preconstructed Commander decks that the format truly exploded. The product sold like wildfire and interest in Commander gained a remarkable momentum. Whether you play Magic or not, getting an MTG gift for someone who does can often be tricky, as Magic is such a personal game and experience that if you don’t expertly know your friend’s collection and decks, then buying the individual cards they might really want is going to be tricky. Not to mention expensive. Sure, you can buy a bundle or other boxed product, but these usually amount to little more than a big pile of booster packs, and while players love packs, it lacks that personal touch we often strive for when giving a gift to the people who matter in our lives. Presented here are my suggestions for great gifts you can give to the Magic player in your life. I am sure your friend, son, daughter will find them “way cool” and consider you to be a “radical” friend or family member. I am now being told that the new words are “fleek” and “lit” Let’s begin with a battle box…

You can support The Professor just by checking out their store through this link: http://www.cardkingdom.com/TCC Many Magic: The Gathering players ask the question: Is it worth it buy a Commander 2018 preconstructed deck? Once the star jewel of Wizards of the Coast, this years’ line has had a significant shakeup in both price and contents, begging the question more so than ever if if the now 40.00 price tag for this once perfect product is still worth, and if so, by how much? Is this price part of a plan for providing players with powerful commander cards, new and old, or just callously cashing in on a popular product? Do not pay above MSRP for any 2018 Commander decks, period. If you can get any preconstructed decks from previous years for the same or near cost, do so instead. If all you want is Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow to build a kick ass ninja deck, then buy the singles you need. If you want to sit down and start playing Commander and don’t know where to begin, yes, you can absolutely buy one of these and play it with friends right out of the box. Stay tuned for Ravnica spoilers, previews, as this is a Magic The Gatherer channel that talks magic cards, mtg gameplay, mtg daily news, mtg deck builder tips and tricks, mtg edh and commander help and life hacks. MTG - The Complete Casual, A Guide To Better and More Enjoyable Casual Magic: The Gathering Play

13:30
Part 1: Balance and Sealed Magic: The Gathering Products Despite the enormous amount of casual play that takes place, many casual Magic players experience frustration and difficulty while just trying to get in a fun game of Magic with their friends. When getting casual games with your friends, it is important that your decks are on the same level. So if you are playing with an old Zendikar Standard deck, make sure your friend is too. If you are playing with an Intro Pack, make sure your friend is as well, etc. This balance will improve the play experience dramatically. Imagine that Wizards of the Coast came out with a new product designed just for the best casual play experience. I'm going to call the hypothetical product, The Complete Casual. It's called the Complete Casual, because it has everything you would ever need or want for casual play. These Complete Casual decks would each be completely different from one another, so much so that you and each of your friends could all buy one, and no two of your decks would be alike. Fully customizable as well, pick you colors and deck style, etc. But, amazingly, due to the genius of Wizards of the Coast, these decks would be balanced against each other, so that you could play against anyone else who had purchased this product, be it a friend or just someone at your local game shop. Finally, let's say The Complete Casual only cost about $24.00. That's all you'd have to spend to get all of what I just described. Sound too good to be true? Well, believe or not, it's realer than you think, and I’m going to talk to you about it more in just a moment, but first, I'm feeling a little too formal, and this is a casual discussion. Let's get casual! This video will examine what Planeswalker Decks are, what they contain, what purpose they serve, and who they are for. Although this video will use as its examples and illustrations the Amonkhet Planeswalker Decks, unless significant changes are made to the product, it can be applied to future decks as well. Please Note: This video is intended as a guide to the product for brand new Magic the gathering players. For a more detailed and critical analysis from the Perspective of an active Magic player, be sure to check out my “Is It Worth It” video for Planeswalker Decks linked in this video’s description. What Is A Planeswalker Deck? Planeswalker Decks are a product intended to teach brand new players the basic strategy of magic the gathering, the game's settings, its characters, and to simply provide that very first 60 card deck to begin their Magic journey with. These decks are for one person and one person only: brand new players with no or perhaps almost no Magic cards whatsoever. They are meant as a first purchase and a first deck. Again, the analogy of training wheels is one I feel is most apt. In conclusion, Planeswalker Decks are an acceptable first purchase for a brand new Magic player, however they are far from a vital one. They can make a gift for a younger player just getting into the game, and they can serve as a beginner’s deck for fun and practice, but there’s a lot of other options out there, including Deckbuilder’s Toolkits, Rookie and Battle Decks, And Simply Attending a prerelease. Speaking critically, once a brand new player has purchased one Planeswalker Deck, they have no need to ever do so again. Established players do not ever need to purchase a Planeswalker Deck. Again, my more detailed critical analysis from the Perspective of an active player can be found in my “Is It Worth It” video for Planeswalker Decks linked in this video’s description.

Sporting a fresh new design...for Magic anyway...Gift boxes appear to be replacing the holiday gift box, and the redesign couldn’t be more dramatic. So is this product the perfect present or just another disappointing lump of coal. Let’s take a look. Final conclusion: This gift box is cynicism incarnate. It is as close as wizards of the coast can get to selling an empty box. It is unclear who this product is for and what category it really fits in. if this a gift...it is not a very good one. The only thing that might appeal to anyone are the mark poole foil basic lands, but considering all that gift boxes once offered and how little this gift box now contains, I feel there is nothing of value here.

Overall, the best value gotten from a booster box currently in Standard is immediately after that box's set has been released. While a few individual rares may rise in price do to later being proven successful in Standard constructed, but the vast majority of cards will fall in value until they eventually rotate out. After that, the only cards that will retain or regain value are ones which are viable in other formats, most notably Modern, Legacy, and to a lesser extent Commander. What’s more, most of these commander decks contain a vast array of cards that have respectable financial value, or just are commander staples which makes upgrading the decks or building new commander decks using the pieces of these an acceptable and easy path for the player. Best of all, while power levels between the decks do vary, I maintain that there is no wrong answer when it comes to these commander precons. WHich one should I buy is a question i answer often with “Which one do you like the look and feel of? You can’t go wrong.” And I want to repeat that: You can’t go wrong. But still I am asked which are the best of the best, and so presented here are the top 5 commander decks you can purchase, based on power right out of the box. Note, these top 5 are all selling for above MSRP, some by a little, one by a lot, and I still encourage you to scour your local game stores and even online sellers to find those sweet deals of commander decks at 29 even 24.99 each, an amazing value every one of them. And with the Commander’s Anthology coming out in just a week, an expensive product with 4 of the classic commander decks in it plus a few other goodies, I thought I’d give a copy away to a subscriber. So if you’d like a free, brand new copy of the commander’s anthology all you have to do is be subscribed to this channel for a chance to win! Declared as the last Masters set for the foreseeable future, Ultimate Masters attempts to go out with a bang by offering what is quite possibly the most value packed Magic: The Gathering product….ever, but also at what is most certainly the highest retail price ever.
