Installing Oracle Linux 7.4

12:01
Installing Oracle Linux 7.4 Scott Lynn has announced the release of Oracle Linux 7 Update 4, an updated build of the company's enterprise-class Linux distribution built from the source code for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 but featuring its own "unbreakable" kernel. This version was announced last month, but it was only yesterday that the installation DVD images appeared on public mirrors. From the release announcement: "Oracle is pleased to announce the general availability of Oracle Linux 7 Update 4 for x86-64 servers. What's new? Enhancements to Oracle Linux 7 included in this update are included for several key areas, including security, support for Cloud and Container environments, and performance. Oracle Linux 7 Update 4 continues to enhance your security stance with several new capabilities. UEFI Secure Boot - a system in Secure Boot mode loads only those boot loaders and kernels that have been signed by Oracle. Oracle has updated the kernel and GRUB 2 packages to sign them with a valid Extended Validation (EV) certificate. The EV certificate has been compiled into the shim binary and has been signed by Microsoft. OpenSSH now uses SHA-2 - by default, the algorithm for public key signatures that is used in this release is SHA-2. Reference: https://distrowatch.com/?newsid=09955

Oracle Linux Server Release 7.0 x86_64.

24:30
Oracle Linux Server Release 7.0 x86_64. Oracle Linux, formerly known as Oracle Enterprise Linux, is a Linux distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), repackaged and freely distributed by Oracle, available under the GNU General Public License (GPL) since late 2006. Oracle Linux can be downloaded through Oracle's E-delivery service or from a variety of mirror sites, and can be deployed and distributed without cost. Commercial technical support is available through Oracle's Oracle Linux Support program, which supports Oracle Linux, and existing RHEL or CentOS installations (i.e. without reinstallation). As of 2013, Oracle Linux has over 11,000 customers subscribed to the support program. Oracle Corporation distributes Oracle Linux with two alternative kernels: Red Hat Compatible Kernel - identical to the kernel shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) - based on newer mainline Linux kernel versions, with Oracle's own enhancements for OLTP, InfiniBand, and SSD disk access, NUMA-optimizations, Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS), async I/O, OCFS2, and networking. Oracle claims that the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is compatible with RHEL, and that Oracle middleware and third-party RHEL-certified applications can install and run unchanged on the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel. For users requiring strict compatibility with Red Hat or for users running kernel modules dependent on specific kernel versions, the Red Hat Compatible Kernel offers 100% compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Oracle Linux is used as the underlying operating system for the following appliances: Oracle Exadata Oracle Exalogic Oracle Big Data Appliance Oracle Exalytics Oracle Database Appliance

Steps: 1- Download Oracle Linux 6.9 ISO 2- Create Virtual Machine on VMware Workstation/Player 3- Start Oracle Linux Installation 4- Install VMware Tools 5- Test VMware Tools Features: Fit Guest Now, Drag-Drop File and Clipboard Sharing What is Oracle Linux? Oracle Linux is an enterprise-class Linux distribution supported by Oracle and built from source packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Some of the special features of Oracle Linux include a custom-build and rigorously-tested Linux kernel called "Oracle Unbreakable Kernel", tight integration with Oracle's hardware and software products including most database applications, and "zero downtime patching" which is feature that enables administrators to update the kernel without a reboot. Oracle Linux Website: https://www.oracle.com/linux/ Oracle Linux 6.9 New Features and Improvements Oracle Linux 6 Update 9 includes multiple updated kernels, including two new "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel" packages and a "Red Hat Compatible Kernel" package. The new update to the 6.x series also includes a number of significant bug fixes. Oracle Linux 6 Update 9 fixes a regression introduced in glibc in the upstream release that could cause Oracle Database to fail to start in certain circumstances. This regression was found and fixed during Oracle's extensive testing of Oracle Linux with Oracle products. Customers using other Linux distributions with Oracle Database are encouraged to talk to their Linux provider about whether they also have a patch available. Notable features in this release include: TLS 1.2 support for all system components; the cpuid utility is now available; improved support when running as a Hyper-V guest; enhanced SSSD support for Active Directory. Oracle Linux 6.x Minimum System Requirements You can install Oracle Linux 6 on systems with a 32 or 64-bit x86 architecture (x86 or x86_64), a minimum of 1 GB of memory, a minimum of 1 GB of disk space, and an unlimited number of CPU cores. The maximum supported memory size is 64 GB for x86 and 4 TB for x86_64. Hope you found it informative and useful. Any questions or comments are welcomed.
