√ Strategic Role of Operations Management | Business Studies

14:10
#iitutor #BusinessStudies #OperationProcess https://www.iitutor.com Strategic means affecting all business functions. The strategic role of operations management is to contribute to the direction and plan of the business. The main goal of business is to minimise costs to maximise profits. A strategic role of operations is the management of costs. The different operations costs for a business are: Input costs, Labour costs, Processing costs, Inventory costs, Quality management. • Cost leadership aims to have the lowest costs and be the most prices competitive in the market. The business must still be profitable. Operations Management therefore must find ways to reduce costs in production. Example: Bunnings. A business can cut costs by increasing the scale/size of the business. How? By buying in bulk, the business is able to negotiate lower costs per unit. Goods/service differentiation: Tangible – they can be seen and touched. Tend to be standardised. Can be owned and transferred between people. Can take considerable time between production and consumption. Easy to determine costs by calculating inputs and adding margin. Services: Intangible. Generally customised. Cannot be owned. Production and consumption occurs at the same time. The value of a service depends on what the consumer is prepared to pay. Product Differentiation. Operations must find a way to distinguish their products from their competitors. This gives them a competitive advantage. This will differ between goods and services. Product Differentiation: Goods. Varying the actual product features. Operations search for ways to make their product features attractive to the consumer. Varying product quality. Making a low quality alternative to attract a different group of consumers. Varying the augmented features. This refers to add-ons or additional benefits. Product Differentiation: Services. Varying the amount of time spent on a service. Example: Hair salons. Varying the level of expertise brought to a service. Some service providers will offer a higher level of expertise. Varying the qualifications and experience of the service provider. This can be an important factor when consumers are choosing their service provider. Varying the quality of materials/ technology used in service delivery. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Medical technologies. Cross Branding: Operations may choose to offer consumers added benefits from a cross-branding arrangement.

48:59
At The Family, we believe that anyone can become a great entrepreneur. Find more info here: http://www.thefamily.co/ By Sam Cohen: https://www.linkedin.com/in/samuel-cohen-8819431b/ You can find the slides here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1s-3uS2qKZVPu81U9eHSAjBYTx3ONK-iS DESCRIPTION A Non-technical Operations Director’s Guide to the Data Galaxy! Join us as Sam Cohen takes us on a journey through time and space! We're going on a data adventure! It's hard building a tech startup as a non-techy. There's so much to learn and so little time to do everything. Sam Cohen found this out from first-hand experience. In his role as the Operations Director at YOPA, he needed to build a data team, but knew very little about data. In this talk, Sam will share how he navigated the process and tell us his story of how he adapted quickly, learnt to appreciate his limitations and where he could add value and when he should let go. We'll explore some key questions such as: How do you hire and form a data team? How do you set your team up for success? How do you make decisions about tooling? How do you create the right data culture? How do you choose the right metrics? How to understand the team's needs and serve at the required speed?! Plus data creation, data capture, data insight and DASHBOARDS! Learn how Sam took his team from reactive to proactive and what he's got coming up next on the horizon! Phew! That's quite a journey! About The Speaker: Sam Cohen graduated from LSE with a degree in international relations, during which time he interned at a number of financial services companies. He continued this trend after university working at Nomura and Ashcourt Rowan, before jumping into his first strategy role at a FinTech startup, Wonga, in 2013. After 2 years at Wonga, Cohen moved to another loan provider, RateSetter, but this time taking on an operational role. He then moved to YOPA Property a year later, where he has held the position of Operations Director for almost 3 years. YOPA is disrupting the estate agent market by making the process of selling a home affordable, simple and transparent, all for a fixed fee.

Chris Painter gave an overview of what it's like to be a product manager and talked about our part-time product management course curriculum. He also shared secrets on what it takes to become a Product Manager and answered various questions about product management. Chris Painter has spent the past 20 years developing, managing, and launching at scale unique hardware and software experiences in both Japan and the US. He started his career in Japan, joining the team that designed the ThinkPad laptops. He eventually found his way to Sony Japan doing product design on the VAIO laptops. It was at Sony where he was able to get his start in product management and his passion for bringing together hardware and software experiences. He brought that to his own startup which focused on building an online streaming media experience. Though not hugely successful, this ultimately helped to create new experiences at Comcast that became the new Xfinity X1 UI, and ultimately the very successful Amazon FireTV and FireTV stick product experiences. He carried his personal passion for photo and video capture to GoPro where he led a team of product managers developing new ways to capture, manage and share your life’s most memorable moments. Bitten once again by the startup bug, Chris now heads up product at a robotics startup focused on last mile delivery. FactoryGlobal Create A Better Solution | Operations Director |

01:18
About Us, please head to http://www.factoryglobal.com/policies/about-factoryglobal You may have been thinking, how does our company supply our global customers with an extensive amount of products and with the lowest prices? You see, our products are being selected from the producers, not from a chain of origin wholesalers to transit wholesalers to local wholesalers and then retailers who then directly sell the product to its consumers. In this commodity circulation chain, the price will increase after each layer. Our company, Factory Global, was created to create a better solution. We started by directly purchasing from the factory to get the lowest price possible. We then deliver from the factories directly to our global customers. This helps us to find products with best quality and lowest prices quickly and more effectively than any other solution. Currently we have cooperation with more than 1000 factories all over the world. In order to bring our customers more quality products, we will keep enriching our product line, and have cooperation with more factories.

"Why should I hire you?" - Best Interview Questions and Answers

03:29
WHY SHOULD I HIRE YOU is often the last question you will be asked in an interview. Prepare for it. This is your chance to restate the skills you possess that are most relevant to the position and to summarize your other qualities that make you the perfect person for the job, and that's why they should hire you. Outline your answer before you go in, so that you can answer clearly, concisely, and with confidence. Your answer should be short and to the point. It should reflect your professional background as it relates to current needs and problems of the position. Review the job description and tell how you are the right person for the job by matching up your skill set with each bullet point of the job description. In formulating your answer as to why they should hire you, be sure to address these areas: 1. Determine their goals for the position. This should come up during your research into the company and the position. If possible, talk to others who work for the company. If you are unclear on this point, include it in the questions you ask at the interview and be prepared to incorporate it into your answer. 2. Show you have the skills needed for the job. Based on the goals you have identified in step one, determine how your skills and experience support those goals. If necessary, refer back to your list of skills.
