Python OOP Tutorial 5: Special (Magic/Dunder) Methods

13:50
In this Python Object-Oriented Tutorial, we will be learning about special methods. These are also called magic or dunder methods. These methods allow us to emulate built-in types or implement operator overloading. These can be extremely powerful if used correctly. We will start by writing a few special methods of our own and then look at how some of them are used in the Standard Library. Let's get started. Python Generators are often considered a somewhat advanced topic, but they are actually very easy to understand once you start using them on a regular basis. Actually, after you use generators for some time, you will often find them more readable and performant than other options. In this video, we will look at what a python generator is, how and why we would use one, and the performance benefits they give us. Make Jupyter/IPython Notebook even more magical with cell magic extensions!

28:52
PyCon Canada 2015: https://2015.pycon.ca/en/schedule/33/ Talk Description: * My talk will start out with a brief explanation of what Jupyter is (the project formerly known as IPython Notebook) and how to launch it. * I will demo how to run a few lines of Python in Jupyter, and how to create text cells with Markdown and LaTeX. * I will then demo some of the built-in 'cell magic' extensions like running bash commands and displaying plots inline. * I will then show some additional off-the-shelf extensions like the SQL and Graphviz ones, and show how to export a notebook to web-based slides. * I will then show how one can build and use a useful new cell magic extension (an interactive HTTP client) in Python, using Jupyter's built-in web-based text editor.

Python OOP Tutorial 4: Inheritance - Creating Subclasses

19:40
In this Python Object-Oriented Tutorial, we will be learning about inheritance and how to create subclasses. Inheritance allows us to inherit attributes and methods from a parent class. This is useful because we can create subclasses and get all of the functionality of our parents class, and have the ability to overwrite or add completely new functionality without affecting the parents class in any ways. Let's get started. OpenCV Face Detection with Raspberry Pi - Robotics with Python p.7

22:09
Next, we're going to touch on using OpenCV with the Raspberry Pi's camera, giving our robot the gift of sight. There are many steps involved to this process, so there's a lot that is about to be thrown your way. If at any point you're stuck/lost/whatever, feel free to ask questions on the video and I will try to help where possible. There are a lot of moving parts here. If all else fails, I have hosted my Raspberry Pi image: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B11p78NlrG-vZzdJLWYxcU5iMXM/view?usp=sharing OpenCV stands for Open Computer Vision, and it is an open source computer vision and machine learning library. To start, you will need to get OpenCV on to your Raspberry Pi. http://mitchtech.net/raspberry-pi-opencv/ Keep in mind, the "make" part of this tutorial will take 9-10 hours on a Raspberry Pi Model B+. The Raspberry Pi 2 will do it in more like 2-4 hours. Either way, it will take a while. I just did it overnight one night. Girl stunned by PYTHON magic is about visiting the largest man-made tree in the world. At one point someone brought out one of the creatures that might live on or in this tree - it was a rather small python. It's size did not seem to alter the hypnotic effect it had on the people watching, holding or stroking it. Or even those too concerned to come too close for fear of 'snakes' ??? A lovely bit of snakework. The music is "Come Play with me" by Kevin McLeod from YouTube Music Selection.

Using Flask and Python Anywhere in the Classroom by Brad Nielsen

30:54
Flask is a python web server and web framework that makes server-side programming using Python easy. Flask has less 'magic' than Django and therefore makes server requests and responses easier to understand for students. Python Anywhere is a cloud server that allows you to easily set up a live Flask or Django application. Students can develop and debug code online without the hassle of installing and configuring their development environments. This session will look at how Flask and Python Anywhere was used in the classroom with a year 12 student cohort. PyCon Australia is the national conference for users of the Python Programming Language. EuroPython 2018 in Edinburgh "Python Decorators: Gift or Poison?"

27:59
Recording of the talk at EuroPython 2018 in Edinburgh, July 25, 2018 Short description: Why would you ever need to use decorators in Python? Have you ever had the task when you need to use one function in few places and you really wanted to avoid of code duplicating? For example to add some logging into functions or timers, etc. Decorators in Python are super powerful with these tasks, but at the same time they are super complicated, sometimes even magical. When I started learning Python, Decorators were really like a magic: how to use them, how are they working, lots of questions. The goal is to make the things easier and clear to answer a question: to use or not to use Decorators in your project. What’s in the Talk: - Functions nature in Python - Magic of a Decorator - Basics - When to use Decorators - Examples - Even more Python magic Slides are available here: https://atymo.me/projects/presentations/GiftOrPoison/ Code examples: https://github.com/atymoshchuk/python_tutorials Thanks to EuroPython 2018 organisers for inviting me to give a talk and for this amazing recording. Python OOP Tutorial 3: classmethods and staticmethods

15:20
In this Python Object-Oriented Tutorial, we will be learning about classmethods and staticmethods. Class methods are methods that automatically take the class as the first argument. Class methods can also be used as alternative constructors. Static methods do not take the instance or the class as the first argument. They behave just like normal functions, yet they should have some logical connection to our class. We will look at some examples of both of these in order to understand both in depth. Let's get started. Guess the magic number python script for controlling LEDs with Raspberry Pi GPIO

04:40
Used material: 1x Raspberry Pi model B 512mb 1x Breadboard 3x LED (Red, Green, Yellow) 3x 220ohm resistors Jumper wires Female terminal connector for GPIO pins The following program was made to guess a number between 0 and 999, and if your guess is higher than the defined "magic number" it will blink the Red LED five times, if your guess is lower than the "magic number" it will blink thje green LED five times and if you guess the magic number defined as 321, all the 3 LEDs will blink five times. Python script: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByFgW1BKyIt0cnIxYlpRa3F6MFU/edit?usp=sharing Hand written wiring diagram: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByFgW1BKyIt0R0RLcDBGcGhyLUk/edit?usp=sharing Update(25/05/2014) Wiring diagram update: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByFgW1BKyIt0UjVaMzBkd0ZiYjg/edit?usp=sharing UPDATE (25/05/2014) I made a bit of modification in the code so now that when running the program if you choose the magic number defined as 321, all the 3 LEDs will blink at the same time instead of one after the other. The updated Python script is here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByFgW1BKyIt0WDZrZ190Ulc2S2M/edit?usp=sharing Hope you like it. Tested and running :) UPDATE (03/06/2014) This program is now running with a bit of code modification to make it run more properly, only by changing the order of the variables, that make the guessed number if lower than 321 will blink the yellow LED and the green LED five times. And if the guess is higher than 321 it will blink the yellow LED and the red LED five times. Please share and comment for new ideas. Thank you! The code is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByFgW1BKyIt0WmlxNW1jdTR1Ykk/edit?usp=sharing Note: In the wiring diagram is written the pin numbers as the same GPIO number, nevermind that, keep in focus that we are using pin 6 for ground, and pins 7, 11, and 13 as outputs.

Python Tutorial: Comprehensions - How they work and why you should be using them

18:29
Python comprehensions are a very natural and easy way to create lists, dicts, and sets. They are also a great alternative to using maps and filters within python. If you are using maps, filters, or for loops to create your lists, then most likely you could and should be using comprehensions instead. In this video, we will look at how comprehensions work, why you should be using them, and the benefits they have over the alternatives.
