Keith Richards on Drug Use and the Rolling Stones

02:29
Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2010/10/29/Stones_Guitarist_Keith_Richards_Talks_About_Life Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards discusses his personal history with heroin and other hard drugs. "Getting in is easy, getting out is difficult," says Richards. "It took me a while." ----- Outlaw, hellraiser, and one of rock music's most gifted and influential guitarists, Keith Richards has forged a life that most of us can only imagine--and often envy. Amazingly he's lived to tell about it, and now this rock Icon has given us the definitive rock autobiography. In Life, the man himself tells about life lived fast and hard in the creative hurricane--from his days as a young boy growing up in a council estate, listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records, to joining forces with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones to form The Rolling Stones. In conversation with Anthony DeCurtis, a music journalist, and contributing editor for Rolling Stone, Keith Richards will discuss the storied journey of the Rolling Stones, as well as his passion for books and for history. He will chronicle how he created the revolutionary, high-octane riffs that defined "Jumping Jack Flash," "Gimme Shelter" and "Honky Tonk Woman," his affair with the equally infamous Anita Pallenberg (the mother of three of his children), and the tragic death of Brian Jones. He will also discuss the personal values that have made him a proud, successful father, and a happily married man for more than twenty-five years. From falling in love with his wife Patti Hansen to his relationship with his "brother," Mick Jagger, we follow Keef on the ultimate road trip we have all longed to know more about-- the story of an unfettered, fearless, on-the-edge life lived to the absolute fullest. - NYPL Keith Richards is a guitarist, singer-songwriter, record producer, best-selling author and actor, best known as a founding member of the Rolling Stones. As a guitarist, Richards is known for his innovative rhythm playing and ranked 10th in Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 "Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." With songwriting partner and Rolling Stones lead vocalist Mick Jagger, Richards has written and recorded hundreds of songs, fourteen of which are listed by Rolling Stone magazine among the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

THE ROLLING STONES - WAITING ON A FRIEND - Tattoo You (1981) HiDef :: SOTW #68

04:34
Bergo '45 Song of the Week #68 - Dwight's Pick for 10/19/14: http://www.bergo45.com "Waiting On A Friend" by The Rolling Stones from Tattoo You (1981) Rolling Stones Records "You must have something known as Mojo to write a song this fine, and then bury it at the bottom of the album. Track #11...only Mick and Keith..." - Dwight Lewis This is a weekly dive into the musical mind of Bergo '45. Each week, a new song is chosen by a different member of the band. Check out the playlist to see all of the past selections. Grab a towel and give it a listen.... The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed at Dartford, Kent in 1962. The first stable line-up consisted of band leader Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass), and Charlie Watts (drums). The Rolling Stones were in the vanguard of the British Invasion of the US in 1964 and 1965. At first noted for their long hair as much as their music, the band are identified with the youthful and rebellious counterculture of the 1960s. They were instrumental in making blues a major part of rock and roll, and for changing the international focus of blues culture to the less sophisticated blues typified by Chess Records artists. These included Muddy Waters, writer of "Rollin' Stone", the song that inspired the band's name. Their first single, "Come On" was released on June 1963 and reached number 21 in the UK hit parade. After seven successful albums, a period of musical experimentation culminated in the poorly received and largely psychedelic album, Their Satanic Majesties Request (1967). But the group returned to their bluesy roots with Beggars' Banquet (1968), Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971), and Exile on Main St. (1972) which are considered to be the band's best work from their "Golden Age". Musicologist Robert Palmer attributed the "remarkable endurance" of the Rolling Stones to being "rooted in traditional verities, in rhythm-and-blues and soul music" while "more ephemeral pop fashions have come and gone". Jones first led the band, but his drug problem caused his demise and, after teaming as the band's songwriters, Jagger and Richards became de facto leaders. Jones left the band a month before his death in 1969, having already been replaced by Mick Taylor, who left in 1975. Since then Ronnie Wood has played guitar along with Keith Richards. Following Wyman's departure in 1993, Darryl Jones has been the main bassist. Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued as occasional pianist until his death in 1985. Other notable keyboardists for the band have included Nicky Hopkins, active from 1967 to 1982; Billy Preston through the mid 1970s (most prominent on Black and Blue); and Chuck Leavell, active since 1982. The Rolling Stones continued to release hit singles and albums through the 1970s, Some Girls (1978) and Tattoo You (1981) being their two most sold albums worldwide. In the 1980s, a feud between Jagger and Richards about the band's musical direction was patch up and the band made a come back with the hit album, Steel Wheels (1989). In the band's tradition the album was supported by big stadium and arena tours, a tradition continued through the 1990s and 2000s. During this period the band made the four highest-grossing concert tours to date: (Voodoo Lounge Tour (1994–95), Bridges to Babylon Tour (1997–99), Licks Tour (2002–03), A Bigger Bang Tour (2005–07)). The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Rolling Stone magazine ranked them fourth on the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list, and their estimated album sales are above 250 million. They have released twenty-nine studio albums, eighteen live albums and numerous compilations. Let It Bleed (1969) was their first of five consecutive number one studio and Live albums in the UK. Sticky Fingers (1971) was the first of eight consecutive number one studio albums in the US. In 2008 the band ranked 10th on the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists" chart. In 2012, the band celebrated their 50th anniversary. All rights belong to their respective owners © Rolling Stones Records

In July 2005, Manson told Rolling Stone Magazine that he was shifting his focus from music to filmmaking - "I just don't think the world is worth putting music into right now. They were instrumental in making blues a major part of rock and roll, and of changing the international focus of blues culture to the less sophisticated blues typified by Chess Records artists such as Muddy Waters, writer of "Rollin' Stone", the song after which the band is named. After a short period of musical experimentation that culminated with the poorly received and largely psychedelic album Their Satanic Majesties Request (1967), the group returned to their bluesy roots with Beggars' Banquet (1968) which – along with its follow-ups, Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971) and Exile on Main St. (1972) – is generally considered to be the band's best work, and are considered the Rolling Stones' "Golden Age". Musicologist Robert Palmer attributed the "remarkable endurance" of the Rolling Stones to being "rooted in traditional verities, in rhythm-and-blues and soul music" while "more ephemeral pop fashions have come and gone". The band continued to release commercially successful records through the 1970s and selling many albums with Some Girls (1978) and Tattoo You (1981) being their two most sold albums worldwide. In the 1980s, a feud between Jagger and Richards about band's musical direction almost caused the band to split but they managed to patch their relationship and had a big comeback with Steel Wheels (1989) which was followed by a big stadium and arena tour. The band's tradition of supporting albums with big stadium tours continued through the 1990s and 2000s. The band made what were then the four highest-grossing concert tours of all time (Voodoo Lounge Tour (1994–95), Bridges to Babylon Tour (1997–99), Licks Tour (2002–03) and A Bigger Bang Tour (2005–07)) The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers | BY ARCHIE®

15:00
Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time This is one the most difficult video I ever made. I did my homework and read about all of them. I didnt know how much important Bob Dylan or Buddy Holly or some country or soul,R'N'B singers are. But I learned a lot while making it. Enjoy.:) Important is: 1.When did You started career-more time to influence others and develop status in music industry. 2.How big You are in You music genre-how much You influenced it, or even better if You are pioneer of certain genre. 3.How much Your work made an impact on culture in general and music in general. 4.How many good artist have You influenced. 5.How much You influenced artists and music of other music genres. 6. Voice. Artists like Mary or Xtina even Bjork shouldnt be on this list. Artists like Sinatra, Streisand, Ella ,Armstrong, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughan,Mahalia Jackson should be. Otherwise positions are more or less very objective. Aretha as no 1 for sure. Why? She has colossal status in music, she influenced every female singer, she has longevity, she is greatest singer in her genre and she influenced also rock'n'roll artists and music, she is vocaly one of the best vocalists ever lived and she brought soul gospel to white peop .and she is pioneer of cont. r'n'b.

The Rolling Stones - Can't You Hear Me Knocking - 1971

07:16
The Rolling Stones "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" released on their album Sticky Fingers April 23, 1971 on Rolling Stones Records. The album peaked at #1 both in the UK and US and remained there for several weeks. The photos ~'69-'73 in the video represent the time post-Brian Jones and pre-Ron Wood. The Rolling Stone magazine cover w/ Mick & Keith is 1975 and Ronnie joined by then. Mick Taylor's work was on Let It Bleed '69, Sticky Fingers '71, Exile On Main Street '72, Goat's Head Soup '73, and It's Only Rock 'n Roll '74. A newly released 4/28/15 alternate version: https://youtu.be/iXd6O321Ruc To quote Wikipedia about Sticky Fingers: It is Mick Taylor's first full-length appearance on a Rolling Stones album, the first Rolling Stones album not to feature any contributions from guitarist and founder Brian Jones and the first one on which Mick Jagger is credited with playing guitar. The album is often regarded as one of the Stones' best, containing songs such as the chart-topping "Brown Sugar" and the folk-influenced "Wild Horses", along with the 2 part, Latin-inspired, "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and achieving triple platinum certification in the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sticky_Fingers Mick Taylor's guitar solo was done in one take. To quote: Can't You Hear Me Knocking... is one of my favorites... (The jam at the end) just happened by accident; that was never planned. Towards the end of the song I just felt like carrying on playing. Everybody was putting their instruments down, but the tape was still rolling and it sounded good, so everybody quickly picked up their instruments again and carried on playing. It just happened, and it was a one-take thing. A lot of people seem to really like that part. - Mick Taylor, 1979 http://www.timeisonourside.com/SOCantYouHear.html An alternate record cover was designed for the Spain release: 0:33 The song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The following musicians played on this song: Mick Jagger -- vocals Keith Richards -- lead guitar first part of song Mick Taylor -- rhythm guitar Bill Wyman -- bass guitar Charlie Watts - drums Bobby Keys -- saxophone Rocky Dijon -- congas Billy Preston -- organ Nicky Hopkins -- piano Jimmy Miller -- percussion Sticky Fingers Track Listing. All songs by Jagger/Richards except those noted: 1. Brown Sugar 2. Sway 3. Wild Horses 4. Can't You Hear Me Knocking 5. You Gotta Move (Fred McDowell, Gary Davis) 6. Bitch 7. I Got the Blues 8. Sister Morphine (Jagger, Richards, Marianne Faithful) 9. Dead Flowers 10.
