Park Sessions Woodward at Tahoe - TransWorld SNOWboarding

07:42
Our Donner party turned out way better! Take a look at the Woodward Tahoe setup and one word is immediately burned into your head: flow. You can see it in the way jibs are laid out—it's not just a bunch of rails in a row, they're spread around so you can pinball back and forth, here and there down the run. Land one, react and pick your line that way. Flow. People throw "it's like a concrete skatepark" around a lot but it's definitely the case here. It's not just Lane Knaack or Eric Rosenwald or any one person either, but this communal team effort that everyone involved is down for, and this ethos actually goes for all of the Woodward Terrain Parks across the country... This is an excerpt from an article that originally appeared in the January issue of TransWorld SNOWboarding. How to do a Cannonball Grab with Bode Merrill | TransWorld SNOWboarding Grab Directory

00:34
The Grab: Rider grabs their knees and tucks up like a cannonball. The Tweak: Do not tweak, stay in a ball for as long as your airtime allows. Performed By: Bode Merrill The History: The conventional skateboard cannonball grab entails grabbing the nose and tail of the board simultaneously (also referred to as a UFO on a snowboard). This version, however, derives it’s inspiration from the original, aquatic cannonball. This timeless swimming stunt, probably dates back to the dawn of man wherever early hominoids were looking to make a splash. As it relates to snowboarding, this trick is a comedic mockery of the dreaded knee grabs many riders unfortunately do during multi-corking tricks. Snowboarding on New Zealand's Largest Glacier | Diaries Downunder Winter

05:49
Tasman Glacier is New Zealand's largest glacier. Boasting specs of 29km long and 600 meters thick in spots, it is truly a thing of beauty... especially when you decide to go snowboarding on it's prominent ice fields. For this one, the crew flew up by ski plane to the Tasman Glacier in Mount Cook National Park. They had heard rumors of an area called 'Canyon Lands,' basically a lego-like playground that is a series of ice chunks emerging out of the glacier itself. With jaws dropped low, see how the crew navigated their way around the ice and use it like a natural terrain park. The all-time adventure in an area that you need to see to believe! Riders featured include Nick Brown, Nick Hyne, and JJ Rayward. Filming by Heath Patterson, photos by Vaughan Brookfield, and editing by Heath Patterson. Park Sessions Mammoth- TransWorld SNOWboarding

08:18
The jumps and the halfpipe are what traditionally stand out when thinking of the Mammoth parks. They have sick rails with proper setups and good variety—but the jumps are really what set Mammoth apart. They're built by snowboarders who know what's good— poppy, but not aggressive, and the landings match the takeoffs so you come down easy even on the 80-footers. Another way of saying this is that it feels safe going bigger and bigger. Our guys would start the day off in South Park, lapping the 18-foot pipe, the BMX track and medium jumps. Then as the day went on and the snow softened up more and more, they'd start lapping the jump lines and rails in Main Park. The laps there are fast and since the lift is right over the park, you never leave the headspace. Late spring afternoon, lapping a slushy Mammoth park with a beer in hand, is damn hard to beat. Thanks to TJ Dawoud, Lauren Burke, and the rest of the Mammoth Unbound crew for having us. Want to figure out how to really make the most out of Mammoth's 6 terrain parks, endless terrain, and nightlife next time you're there? Pick up a copy of our October issue for the full run down in the Mammoth Park Sessions feature. Resort Sessions: Valle Nevado, Chile - TransWorld SNOWboarding

05:37
Valle Nevado, Chile might not be on the radar of the every day rider in terms of thinking of an attainable snowboarding destination, but it should be. Combine the expansive terrain, high elevation, welcoming and interesting culture, as well as the potential for some serious pow, and you’ve got a recipe for one unforgettable trip. All it takes is a 10-ish hour flight from your most convenient hub, and then another two hours in a car, traversing around 55 hair-raising switchback turns, after which you’ll quickly find yourself 10,000 feet above sea level. We assembled a crew of riders that we knew would be seriously stoked to take the trip. Our crew was an eclectic mashup of riders that laid waste to the vast terrain Valle Nevado offers. Ozzy Henning joined us from Utah, while Brady Lem made the journey with us from Southern California. Meeting up with Victor Daviet in the Santiago airport was a blessing indeed, since he was able to piece together our broken Spanish into full fledged sentences, which was incredibly helpful in terms of securing our transport up to the resort. Here’s another helpful tip: don’t eat empanadas before the drive if you are prone to any sort of motion sickness. You’ll thank us later. Our inside man and guide to the area, Manuel Diaz, met us upon arrival at the resort and quickly took us to the goods. There were windlips and natural features galore, some fresh pow, and a park with a dedicated poma lift. Needless to stay, stoke levels were high. With the promise of pisco sours, a bit of Chilean nightlife, incredible food, wine tastings, and of course plenty of snowboarding, it was hard to convince the crew to get back on our departure flight as our time drew to a close. This journey was about taking full advantage of all the resort had to offer, both in terms of terrain and experiences, in the hopes that it’ll inspire you to dream big and send it for your next adventure. Resort Stats: Acres: 2,200 Vertical Feet: 2,600 Lifts: 14 Runs: 44 Check out the full Valle Nevado Resort Session feature in the December issue of the magazine. Issue Out Now: 2017 TransWorld SNOWboarding Gear Guide

00:55
Subscribe today: twsnow.co/qXXSUF This issue kicks off our 30th year. TransWorld is the longest-running snowboard magazine in existence, and since 1987, the TWSNOW staff has been traveling the globe in search of turns, testing the latest products along the way. This past year was no exception. In last year’s Gear Guide we introduced Tested + Approved, and since about two days after we sent the files to the press, we have been working on the 2017 edition. Over 500 products were tested on snow over the past year by our staff and extensive testing team. Features: – Framed – Bent Metal is Back and Way Better – Why Understanding Your Gear is More Important Than Ever – 2017 Tested & Approved Snowboard Gear Reviews – 2017 Good Wood Snowboard Test – 2017 Product Showroom – Wallpaper: Riders’ Poll Winners and their Setups – & More Peruse some select pages from the magazine above for now, and then head to your nearest newsstand to grab a copy. You can also subscribe to the print or digital version to have TransWorld SNOWboarding delivered directly to you. About the 2017 Gear Guide: Going into winter, we want to know what gear can be trusted when put through the wringer. So we sent the latest developments in snowboarding gear to our team of testers spread across the country. With so many unique features in the lineup and different opinions from each tester—both compliments and complaints—there was plenty worth discussing. Over 500 products were tested and only 117 made the cut. Some gear broke. Other pieces spoke volumes to functionality and durability. So here you have it: the most inclusive, all-encompassing gear test in snowboarding. If it’s in here, it’s been beat up and bent every which way. It’s been tested, and it’s been approved. For the 18th year, snowboarders from around the country who we hand selected based on skill and board knowledge joined us for our annual Good Wood snowboard test. In years past, both tests have been conducted at the same location. This time around we mixed things up and traveled to Carinthia Parks at Mount Snow, Vermont, for the park board test, then to Aspen Mountain in Colorado for the all-mountain portion. We sought more specific terrain for each test, even though it meant extra time in planes and not-so-spacious rental cars. This is Good Wood, and we know test results determine where hard-earned cash is spent. Our 30 testers were exhausted at the end of each day, but all were happy to contribute. Most grew up following Good Wood and selecting their own weapons based on test results, so they took pride knowing the extent of their efforts. It’s not easy to choose the perfect board. There are so many widths and camber profiles to choose from, fractional differences in taper and sidecut, and boards with tons of flex but lacking stability or vice versa. Those are just a few aspects of board selection we’ll help you sift through. And to simplify things further, we’ll use minimal technical jargon. No time to decipher all the mumbo jumbo. It’s time to shred. How to do a Ball Grab Backie with Chris Grenier | TransWorld SNOWboarding Grab Directory

00:38
The Grab: Either hand grabs the rider’s balls. (female riders may alter as needed) The Tweak: The tweak doesn’t matter, just don’t squeeze too hard. Performed By: Chris Grenier The History: Pin pointing the exact origin of the ball grab gets a bit hairy. In many snowboard sessions throughout the years, balls have been grabbed with the aim of making people laugh. One historically notable ball grab dates back to 1994 when Northwest legend Matt Donahue frontside 360 ball grabs at Mt. Hood in Mack Dawg’s “Upping the Ante”. In modern times, Fritdjof Tischendorf’s handy work has explored similar, non-grabbing versions of the crotch region, leading to the birth of the Jerk Flip. Let's Play Transworld Snowboarding Part 1: Bavaria and Lapland

12:54
Transworld Snowboarding is an Xbox only game named after the popular snowboarding magazine. In the game, you go to different types of levels (freestyle/big air/halfpipe/race) and do different types of challenges (high score/specific trick/level interaction). It's pretty standard, but the game can look really wonky as you spin around like mad before landing on your face and moving right along. It's not a Jonny Moseley trainwreck, but things are very...loose, let's just say that. At least, they're loose up until you need to get a 30x combo to get any points at all, and the combo system destroys you if you do badly. #TransworldSnowboarding #LetsPlay #Insetik47

Three decades deep, TransWorld SNOWboarding magazine embarks on our 30th year as the world’s longest-running snowboard magazine in existence. Our October issue is out now and is stacked insane action, imaginative storytelling, travel-centric pieces, interviews, wallpapers and much more. “Since this magazine started 30 years ago, snowboarding has become increasingly established. The mission statement of the mag when it was founded was “to grow and promote the sport of snowboarding.” The TWSNOW staff in the ‘80s and early ‘90s would visit ski areas to convince them that snowboarding was safe. A list of resorts that didn’t allow snowboarding was printed in each issue, shortening every time… Our goal today is to cover the unique facets of snowboarding's culture- the people, the locations, and the lifestyle.” -- Launch, Nick Hamilton, Content Director TransWorld SNOWboarding. Park Sessions: Carinthia, Mount Snow, Vermont | TransWorld SNOWboarding

07:45
Riders: Alex Rodway, Nick Julius, Jack Dawe, Levi Gunzberg, Max Lyons, Brendan Rego, and Parker Szumoski It’s not easy building parks on the East Coast. West Coast parks have the pleasure of working with softer snow—crews can think of an idea and make it happen that night because the snow is so tillable. In New England, it’s more like trying to filet frozen chicken with a butter knife. It takes a lot more machine time and man-hours to make an idea come to life. Still, park building is an area where the East can not only compete with, but best, the West. For Day Franzen and the crew at Mount Snow’s Carinthia Parks, it’s why they do everything in their power to build proper and creative setups that would stand up next to Park City and Loon Mountain, alike. In 2008, Mount Snow launched Carinthia Parks, turning an entire mountain face into a park. A high-speed quad and a fixed-grip triple chair access four trails covered with round down bars, lift towers, boxes, square handrails, bonks, stairs, wallrides, kickers, side hits, log rides…you get it. They have the full spectrum, from all-wood jibs to the more traditional Dew Tour-style park. They make creative setups you don’t see anywhere else—including the Vermont-themed jibs of The Farm—and they work hard for it, tilling the snow over and over again in the cat just to get a substance they can work with. So when the sun comes up and the lift starts turning, it’s game on. Watch a Carinthia local like Levi or Max ride through any of the parks and you’ll witness how the place will mold a rider. Carinthia’s layout has over 130 features spread throughout eight park zones spanning 100 acres, giving you a lot of terrain to choose from. You can ride all morning and not hit the same run twice, ride all day and not hit the same line twice. Its one thing the crew prides themselves on: building different shit. If you’re riding up to a feature for the first time and thinking, “What the hell am I going to do with this,” then they’ve done what they set out to do. It’s about challenging people to get creative, without just upping the size of a jump or the length of a rail. Don’t be mistaken, though, they have plenty of 60-foot-plus kickers and 30-foot down rails. Daily Routine Morning Nitro is a good medium sized park to warm up in. There are a ton of sick jibs and a good jump line at the bottom. Starts right at the top of the Nitro Express and runs all the way down to the bottom so you get plenty of vertical to get the blood pumping. The other warm-up option is Mineshaft. There are a couple of legit jibs on the flatter top part that go into a steeper pitch. Midday Usually Mineshaft down into Prospector, the all-natural park. This is where they have all the wooden jibs: down logs, wallrides, C-logs, log jams—pretty much any type of rail you can think of they’ve made it out of downed trees. It’s one unique area that really sets Carinthia apart and is a must ride when you go there. Afternoon Find something to hike in Prospector or take laps through the larger features of The Gluch, including a bunch of proper rails and a sick jump line at the bottom. To round out the parks, there’s Inferno, the largest park at Mount Snow, where they used to hold the Dew Tour. This is where you’ll find all the biggest jumps and longest, steepest rails. You definitely want to be warmed up before you go in here. Evening There are a bunch of good places to eat in West Dover, but the real treat, as anywhere in Vermont, is a beer called Double Bag made by Long Trail. The only thing better than Double Bag is when it’s made with Guinness like a Black and Tan and it’s called a Cow Tipper. The Snow Barn, right at the base of the mountain, makes good pizza and does live music, snowboard shop nights, and video premieres, so if you’re staying at the mountain, that’s the spot. Nothing To Prove : Full Movie : Part Two | TransWorld SNOWboarding

20:54
Nothing To Prove part two tells the stories of snowboarding in Utah through the eyes of the Celtek Gloves crew. After getting their fill of street riding in part one the crew packed up their bags and headed off to Utah in search of more shred. Once in Utah they meet up with snowboarders Chris Grenier, Griffen Sibert, and Sam Taxwood for some resort riding. But then the snow fell and there was powder to be ridden. Bjorn Leines returned after his injury and headed into the backcountry with Chris Grenier, Aaron Biittner, Randy Vannurden, and Krister Ralles. Where the boys lay waste to all kinds of backcountry features. Once the snow dried up it was time for the holy bowly. Cale Zima, Brandon Hammid, Ted Borland, Deadlung, Bode Merrill, Ben Bilodeau, Erik Leines, Lucas Magoon, Kazu Kokubo, and a few more made their way out of the woodwork to compete in the contest. The movie ends with some more backcountry riding from Bjorn Leines, Chris Grenier, Aaron Biittner, and Krister Ralles. Check out more on www.TWSNOW.com
