Emotional Changes Girls Experience | Puberty

02:01
Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499533-Emotional-Changes-Girls-Experience-Puberty Okay, so you're really upset one minute at your mom, and then you go to the Taylor Swift concert with your girlfriend, and you're having the time of your life. You get home, your brother said something the wrong way, and you scream at him. What is going on here, you wonder. You are experiencing mood swings, which are such a normal part of puberty I can't even tell you, everybody goes through them. One minute you're happy, one minute you're upset, one minute you're crying, one minute you're laughing; it's all normal. And the reason is, all the hormones that are responsible for those physical changes that are going on in your body, are also making changes in your mind and emotions, and the hormones fluctuate and go up and down, and your moods go up and down accordingly. All of this is normal and nothing to worry about. What can be concerning is, you may want to figure out ways to deal with it, so your moods don't get the better of you. The first thing I recommend is talking to somebody that you trust. You can talk to your parents. If you're not comfortable doing that, you can talk to a best friend, you can talk to a coach, a guidance counselor, your doctor, just talk about things that are bothering you, getting something off your chest tends to really help. And also, try not to react immediately. Your poor little brother, if you just yelled at him immediately, take a second, count backwards from ten if you need to. If you don't react immediately you'll find that you can probably make a more level-headed response. The next I'm going to recommend is getting enough sleep. You need roughly eight to ten hours of sleep at your age, and you're probably not getting them if you're burning the candles at both ends and having so many activities. Try to schedule a time for sleep, it definitely helps regulate your mood swings. The other thing is to exercise, and I can't express how important this is. 30 minutes of exercise a day will definitely help level out your moods, and make those mood swings less up and down. The last thing I want to mention is you need to find ways to relax, ways that work for you, whether it's taking your cell phone for a walk, whether it's doing yoga, whether it's watching a television show that makes you laugh, find something that's relaxing. Spend a few minutes each day on something just for you, so that you can level out your mood swings and get through puberty just like everyone else. You're on your way.

Puberty: The Hormones Involved | Biology for All | FuseSchool

02:17
Hormones are chemical messengers secreted by glands and have specific target organs. In this lesson, you will learn about hormones that stimulate changes to your body during puberty. Puberty is the timeframe when secondary sexual characteristics develop – in other words, when a boy matures physically to a man, and a girl to a woman. In males, your testes secrete a hormone called testosterone, also known as the male hormone. Testosterone stimulates a wide variety of physiological changes, including increased body hair (especially on your face and in your armpits), more muscle mass, and your voice deepening. As well, testosterone also stimulates sperm cell production in your testes. In females, the hormone responsible for physical changes during puberty is oestrogen, also known as the female hormone. It is secreted by your ovaries and is responsible for some body hair growth, widening of the hips, and development of breasts. Oestrogen also plays an important role in regulating the menstrual cycle, as described in more detail in another lesson. It thickens the uterus lining in anticipation of ovulation, which is the release of a mature egg from an ovary. In addition, oestrogen stimulates the pituitary gland to secrete the luteinising hormone, which is directly responsible for ovulation. Progesterone is another hormone secreted by your ovaries, and works to maintain the uterus lining thickened by oestrogen. This continues to occur even during pregnancy, so to support the growing foetus. In conclusion, the development of secondary sexual characteristics during puberty is stimulated by testosterone in males, and oestrogen in females. Oestrogen and progesterone are important hormones in regulating the menstrual cycle in females. SUBSCRIBE to the FuseSchool YouTube channel for many more educational videos. Aspergers Syndrome Teens - Dating and Puberty

03:56
http://www.AspergersSociety.org/newsletter = Click for FREE Newsletter http://www.aspergerssociety.org/teen Info on Dating, Puberty and Your Asperger's Syndrome Teen One major issue that comes up in middle and high school is dating and the onset of puberty. Autistic teens typically have the same urges and desires to have relationships and to sexually explore as other teens; the difference is that they often might not understand some of the rules and unspoken guidelines that apply. Not understanding the rules and unspoken guidelines can often get them into trouble. Some teens have trouble knowing when it is appropriate to do things like masturbation, and they need explicit instruction that those things are to be done only in private. Some teens might need to be told that touching any private areas in public is a no no; talking about sexual subjects in public is typically also inappropriate but your AS teen may not understand the bounds. Girls and Dating Teenage girls with autism may need special instruction and guidelines to ensure safe dating. They are at special risk for being taken advantage of because they may not understand when someone is harassing them or even abusing them. They might not understand the difference between good attention and bad attention. Again, explicit instruction needs to be given about this issue. Social stories can be written about it, or else just give concrete examples and break it into small pieces so as to be sure you teen understands the concepts you are trying to present. Another issue that can cause problems with girls is promiscuity. If your AS daughter has few friends, she may be desperate for attention -- unfortunately, she may attract the wrong type of attention. All AS teens, boys and girls, tend to interpret what people say literally. They also have a tendency to believe what people say. Girls, especially, may be very naive when it comes to a boy's attention. A smooth talking boy may start complementing your daughter and giving her the attention that she is craving. In a situation like this, your daughter may be very susceptible to manipulation. She may believe whatever the boy tells her. This may lead to early sexual activity or other inappropriate behavior. Boys and Dating Adolescent males with autism need to be told rules about how you approach girls in an appropriate way so as not to seem like they are stalkers. Sometimes, caught up in their own enthusiasm and not understanding social rules, teens with AS have been accused of being "creepy" or "bugging" girls, simply because they did not understand how to approach girls in an appropriate way. Also, girls may use indirect language or hints to indicate that your son is moving too fast or that they have little interest in a relationship. Unfortunately, AS teens often misinterpret or completely miss indirect language and hints. For example, a girl may be constantly "busy" when your son asks her for a date; but he may not understand that this is a polite rejection. Unless a girl states flatly that she does not want to date your son, he may continue to call and hound her -- creating an unpleasant situation for all involved. This is just a small part of the answers you will need to successfully survive and thrive with Aspergers. If you are looking for additional information immediately, go to the following site: http://www.AspergersSociety.org/teen Watch this video at: http://youtu.be/O0ufspxHxJY

Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499536-What-Types-of-Hair-Develop-on-Girls-Puberty One of the first changes that you're going to experiencing after your breasts start to develop, is pubic hair development. Pubic hair starts to develop probably around the ages of 9, 10, 11, 12, all the way up to 16. And the hair grows in your genital area, it starts off as sort of thin and soft and light and then it starts to get darker and thicken up and curlier. It takes on sort of a triangular pattern and can even grow up your inner thigh and outer leg. This is all normal. After pubic hair starts to develop, you can get hair in other weird places also. Like under your arm you can get air, you can get hair on your upper lip, you can get the hair on your arms and legs start to darken and become thicker. Some women decide that they want to remove their hair, especially the hair on the upper lip or their hair underneath their arms or even the hair on your legs. This is an individual choice and totally up to you. There are tons of products on the market and I really recommend speaking to somebody that has done this before. Maybe an older sister, your mom, an older friend perhaps. Talk to someone who's done this, remove their hair before. There are waxes, there are bleaches, there's shaving. Just remember it's sort of a high maintenance game because once you start to shave or wax the hair is going to grow back. And sometimes it grows in thicker and stronger than before you just have to keep it up if you do decide to shave or remove the hair. All of this is normal, it's no reason to feel embarrassed. Everyone will go through puberty and experience hair growth. Not to worry, it's all normal and it's all going to be okay.

Ages & Stages of Puberty for Girls | Puberty

01:52
Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499539-Ages-and-Stages-of-Puberty-for-Girls-Puberty So, you're changing for gym class, and you notice that everyone around you is wearing training bras, but you're not and you're feeling kind of embarassed. Or, you go to a sleepover party and all the girls are talking about how relieved they are that they don't have pubic hair yet, but you've already started developing it and you're feeling embarassed, too. Puberty is a time of change. And a lot of stuff is going on in your body and it occurs at all different times for different people and it's all normal. I promise you something. Even if you start later or earlier, everyone is eventually going to catch up. So there's no need to feel embarassed or upset about what's going on. It's all a normal part of the process. Here's a look at what's going on during puberty if you're a girl. One of the first stages is that your breasts start to develop, and that occurs around the age of eight or ten. But, of course, it can occur earlier or later for some girls. The next thing that happens is you'll notice some pubic hair, and that's hair in your genital region that will start off sort of thin and soft at first and may get dark and curlier as you get older. The next thing is that you experience a growth spurt. And for girls, you may sprout up a few inches, you may gain a little weight, and you may notice that your body is becoming a bit curvier. All of this is normal. About two to two and a half years after your breasts start to develop you may get your first period. And that's when you start to bleed every month and that's a normal part of puberty also. Different changes that can occur after that are hair growth. You may notice the hair on your legs or your arms getting darker or thicker. Totally normal. Also, hair may start to grow underneath your armpits. This is normal, too. In addition, you might develop oily hair and a little bit of acne. That is a normal part of puberty, too. Just remember, we've all been through this, too. And you will make it through and become a happy and healthy woman.

Puberty in Girls: Getting Your Period

02:27
During puberty, girls begin to get their menstrual periods. Menstrual periods are when a small amount of blood and tissue leave the body through the vagina over the course of a few days. It happens about once every month, and can last between a couple of days and a week. Some girls have cramps during their periods while others don’t. Using a maxi pad, tampon or feminine hygiene cup is a common way to manage the blood that leaves the body during a period. When a girl gets her first period it signals that her body has begun ovulating and that if she has unprotected sex, she could become pregnant. Why?! Once a month a hormone in the girl’s brain signals her ovaries to release an egg or ovum. This is called ovulation. The hormone estrogen is also released to signal the girl’s uterus to build up its lining in case the egg is fertilized by a sperm (called fertilization) during sex. If an egg is not fertilized within 12 -24 hour after ovulation, the egg dies and disintegrates. Two weeks later, when the uterus realizes there is no fertilized egg, the “extra” lining of the uterus is released or shed during a girl’s menstrual period. -------- Please like, share and subscribe to AMAZE for new videos every other Thursday! Sexual Feelings That Girls Experience | Puberty

01:58
Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499531-Sexual-Feelings-That-Girls-Experience-Puberty Learn about the sexual feelings girls experience during puberty, and whether masturbation is normal, from Jennifer Wider, M.D. in this Howcast video. Remember that boy in third grade you used to sit next to, and you thought he was really annoying, but now all of a sudden you think he's kind of cute. Going through puberty you may have some feelings, sexual feelings, feelings of attraction for other people, and they're totally normal. Actually your body may even react to these feelings. You may have some physical symptoms that go along with sexual attractions, and these feelings are normal too. You may feel warm down below, you may feel tingly, and you may even notice a little bit of vaginal discharge, all of this is normal. Remember, your body's reacting physically to some of the mental things that you're experiencing, and everybody goes through this. Some girls, as an exploration of their sexual feelings may masturbate, and that is totally normal too. In fact, from a medical perspective, masturbation is not only normal, it can be healthy. It can relieve stress, it can relieve tension and anxiety, it can help you sleep better, and there's actually a study that shows you that it lowers the number of colds that you have because it increases your immune system, and people do it. Your mom's done it, your sister's done it, your brother's done it, your bus driver's done it, everyone has done it, so you shouldn't feel weird or abnormal if you're masturbating and exploring your body. Many people consider this to be a private topic, and if you have any questions or you're feeling unsure of yourself, definitely speak to someone. If you're not comfortable talking to your parents there are other people to talk to, you can talk to an older sibling, you can talk to a friend, a coach, trust me, everyone is going to be familiar with this topic. One thing I wanted to mention to you, is that if you're find that you're masturbating 24/7, if you're masturbating up a storm and you're hurting yourself, you actually feel sore, or if you're not getting out of the house to do your regular activities because you're masturbating, you may have a problem, and at that point you'd want to go see a doctor, otherwise masturbation is the normal part of puberty, so don't feel bad if you're doing it too, it's just part of the normal development of becoming an adult.

How Is Bone Growth Affected in Girls? | Puberty

01:33
Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499530-How-Is-Bone-Growth-Affected-in-Girls-Puberty One thing you may not be thinking about during puberty are your bones, but you really should. Have you ever noticed those elderly women walking around sort of hunched over? The reason that they're hunched over is that they have a disease called osteoporosis, which is responsible for the thinning of the bones, making them brittle and more susceptible to a fracture. In fact, 50 percent of fractures in women 50 and older is due to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is way more common in women than it is in men, and this is why you need to pay attention to it. You need to start getting enough calcium in your diet during puberty. While you're a teenager and your bones are growing, they have a great capacity of absorbing calcium and vitamin D. Once you stop growing, that opportunity to absorb calcium and vitamin D ends, so this is the time right now to start getting calcium in your diet. You can find calcium in leafy vegetables, you can find it in milk, obviously, any dairy product, yogurt, cheese, you can also get it in calcium fortified cereals and juices, so if you're with mom in the supermarket buying orange juice, let her know to get the one fortified with calcium and vitamin D, it will do your body good, I promise. It is so important right now to get enough calcium and vitamin D so that you prevent osteoporosis in the future. And one more note, this disease runs in families, so if you have family members that have osteoporosis, you are even at higher risk of this disease, and that's why it is so important to get your calcium and vitamin D now.

Educational film about female puberty and sanitary products. 1960's. Film 15019

Teenage girls. A rather dated educational film about female puberty and sanitary products. 1960's Adolescent girls at a race start-line at a school sports day. Girls running at a school sports day. Close up of one girl. Adolescent girls in sports clothes walking into school building. Mother in yellow dressing-gown holding a baby dressed in blue. Mother lays the baby in a cot and tucks it in. Adolescent girls in sports clothes in a school gym, jumping over gym equipment. A shop assistant takes money from a customer and gives change out of a cash register. Close up of another customer. Several women, in a very large room, are all sitting typing (probably a typing pool or possibly a typing class). A male patient is lying in a hospital bed and a female nurse stands by the bed preparing an injection, which she then gives him in his bottom. Close up of an air stewardess in a blue uniform with a white headscarf, against a background of aeroplanes on the tarmac of an airport. A mother leaves her house with her daughter and son; the daughter is dressed in a maroon school uniform with a straw school hat; the son is dressed in a school uniform of a dark and light blue striped blazer and cap. The mother straightens her son's cap and blazer and then pats her daughter on the back, as she sends them both off to school. Adolescent girls in sports uniform in school gym, doing hand stands. Adolescent girls in school uniform leaving the school building. Adolescent girls in school uniform leaving the school grounds on bicycles and cycling across a road as a school crossing patrol woman (a lollipop lady), dressed in a white coat and carrying a STOP sign, holds up the traffic for them. Close up the bicycle which one of the girls is riding. Close up of part of a calendar (July-December) with certain dates ringed in red. A woman in a stylish red dress, with a child (who is mostly obscured) beside her, pushes a low pram or trolley containing her shopping basket past the shop-front of a chemists. A shop assistant re-stocks and tidies shelves of sanitary towels behind a clear display of sanitary towels made by Lilia, Dr Whites and Koronet. Close up of a sanitary towel and then of the sanitary belt as well. A woman's hands are seen demonstrating more modern sanitary briefs (which do not have hooks and loops) and inserting a sanitary towel into the special pockets of the briefs; an opened packet of sanitary towels is lying nearby. Close up of the briefs and sanitary towel held in a woman's hands. Close up of a sanitary towel in a woman's hands. Close up of the separate layers of cotton wool and gauze which make up a sanitary towel, with a woman's hands then putting the cotton wool layers together. Close up of a sanitary towel being covered with gauze. A pair of hands hold a sanitary towel, then remove its gauze and halve the cotton wool pads, discarding one half. Close up of the cistern of a white toilet; an arm reaches across the cistern and pulls the chrome flushing handle. Close up of a hand holding half a sanitary towel, which is then discarded. Close up of a woman's hand on the chrome handle on the cistern of a white toilet; the hand pulls the handle. Close up of the toilet handle against the white cistern. Close up of hand holding a poker which is used to lever open the lid of a white and black domestic appliance (possibly an incinerator), exposing the fire inside; a hand throws a piece of rubbish into the fire and uses the poker to close the lid. Close up of a white rubbish bin. Close up of a hand removing a sheet of hard toilet paper from a white ceramic wall-mounted toilet paper dispenser. Close up of a pedal-bin, its lid lifting and a hand placing a piece of rubbish inside. Close up of brown paper bags (marked 'Southalls Disposal Bag') which are hanging up and a hand removing one of the bags. Close up of a Southall's incinerator and a hand opening the incinerator door, placing a brown bag inside, and closing the door. Close up of a woman's hands, holding soap and washing each other, in a white porcelain sink filled with water. An adolescent girl, holding a towel, runs a bath and unties her pink dressing gown. She looks at her face in the mirror of a bathroom cabinet and removes a bottle from the cabinet. She enters her bedroom carrying a box, sits down and combs her hair. Close up of a packet of Dr White's sanitary towels. Close up of several sanitary towels, the number of which is shown decreasing. Overhead view of the girl, dressed in school uniform, running down the stairs. She is now in a dining room: she sits at a table laid with food and starts to cut a loaf of bread.

How Do Hormones Wreak Havoc on Girls? | Puberty

01:58
Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499535-How-Do-Hormones-Wreak-Havoc-on-Girls-Puberty Your best friend just told you that she doesn't love your miniskirt. You feel so upset. Your mom is driving you crazy. Your teacher told you to rewrite your English assignment, and now you start bawling. You're angry one minute. You're happy the next. You have tons of mood swings. Your body's going through all sorts of wacky changes. What is going on? Let me let you in on a little secret: it's called your hormones. That's what's responsible for all of these changes during puberty. Let's break down how hormones work. There's the pituitary gland. It's a bean shaped gland that sits at the base of your brain. When you are ready to go through puberty it sends out signals, or hormones, telling your body to change. As a girl these hormones travel through your bloodstream and they tell your ovaries to produce estrogen which is the hormone responsible for all of these crazy changes that you're experiencing - changes in your body, like your breasts. You get your period. You get underarm hair. You have pubic hair. The hair on your legs and arms starts to darken and get thicker. All of these changes are due to the hormones that are flowing through your body due to puberty. But it's not just your body that they're working on. It's your mind, too. That's why you have mood swings. You might feel irritable one minute and feel happy the next. All of this is normal, and there are ways to deal with it. The first thing is to remember that you are not alone. Everybody goes through this. Hormones work on everybody's body during puberty in different ways. But trust me, everyone experiences these symptoms and they are normal. You should learn to relax. It's so important to find something that works for you whether it's Pilates, yoga, talking to a friend, exercising. Whatever it does to relax you will help you deal with these emotional changes and these body changes that you may be experiencing. Also, don't forget to talk to somebody as I mentioned. If you're not comfortable talking to your parents that's fine. Find somebody, a coach, a teammate, a friend, an older sister, an older brother. They'll let you know that everyone goes through this, it's normal, and you'll make it through, too.
