We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. — Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them. He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only. He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people. He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within. He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands. He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers. He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries. He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance. He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures. He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation: For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us: For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States: For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world: For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent: For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury: For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences: For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments: For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever. He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us. This sounds exactly how, "they" (the government) is now depriving refugees, immigrants, undocumented citizens, women and people of color of modern day freedom. The real question is why did they skip over the section in the deceleration of independence when Thomas Jefferson actually mentioned "unmoral and liberty depravity treatment towards blacks"? I still personally don't understand the difference in color... So because someone is white they work better at sharpening pencil than a black person? Personally I feel that America hasn't changed. Maybe people hide racism better, but I believe people teach there children at home to hate and they carry that on from generation to generation. In this comment are PRIME EXAMPLES of pure hate in which "our founding fathers built this country on". Honestly if everyone was color blind this world would be a lot more better.

David Barton wrote a book entitled THE JEFFERSON LIES documenting the truth vs lies about this great founding father! For example, he inherited slaves and sought to liberate them, but the State of Virginia would not allow it. Barton's book was publicly derided by people who did not even read it. The first publisher removed many of his footnotes concerning original source documentation.

A lot of anti-Hollywood posts on here. I'd say it's a safe bet these celebs understood what they are speaking without the use of a dictionary as many pseudo-literate naysayers would need to use. In fact, literacy is probably pretty high for the entertainment industry relatively speaking to some elements of our society. I will admit I have not looked it up (after watching this just now), but I'd like to know what they were reimbursed for for doing this. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them did NOT take any money for creating this. I guess it's true what is said about opinions: "Everyone has one, just like everyone has another orifice."

Good grief, people! These are professional actors. None of them , as far as I know, have laid claim to living up to all the ideals expressed in the Declaration; they just performed it! I think most of them did a creditable job it! This document was part of some of the best political poetry ever written, and the ideas and ideals expressed in it two centuries ago are just as admirable, just as fitting sentiments today as they were then! ALL of the individuals who placed their signatures on this document at the time marked themselves for execution by Britain at the time for treason and rebellion; it took some courage to do that! If it was altered to better match the circumstances of today, if you knew that Obama (the expert killer via drones per his own words), the DHS and FBI were all going to read it, and that they would be as likely take action on it as Britain was at the time, would YOU have the courage it would take to sign it? You KNOW this administration's feelings about those sentiments! They'd make the whole thing illegal, make it a crime to circulate it if they could! For that matter, they may yet. At least SOME of them believe in this document, as at least some of us do! They read this for that reason, and some just because they got paid for it (though not at their usual scale - these are top-flight actors!), and others for other reasons, though I doubt the exposure was a factor for most of these. Enjoy it for what it is - and share it with some young people! They need to hear what helped get this country started and what it's supposed to be about! I'd love to see and hear it read live for the Congress - and then see those who laughed and snickered and mocked it FIRED. On the spot.

You heard the words, but you didn't understand them! What nonsense you are spouting, when you babble on about "expert killer Obama" and firing Congress members at your will. There is indeed a lot wrong with the election process of Congress members. The most serious problems in this regard are outlined with the words gerrymandering (commited by the GOP) and Citizens United vs. FEC. (conservative Super PAC/ the problem that cooperations are regarded as people in this respect). Nevertheless, it is up to the electorate (of all colors and genders) to elect and also "fire" the Congressmen and Senators they themselves elected. They have to do that in a process that is called: "election"! The declaration of independence, by the way, was one of the most remarkable liberal documents in history - yes, a liberal document, like Jesus' sermon on the mountain! As the founding fathers were the liberals of their days!

The people reading those words have more understanding about what those words actually mean than you do, as their descendants were victims of the very things that were spoken about in the Declaration of Independence. As a matter of fact, the writer of the Declaration of Independence was no conservative and the people who risked their lives to make it a reality were not conservatives. The conservatives of that time were shills for the British government. Independence of the colonies was not a conservative idea, but a liberal idea. Because the idea of freedom is a liberal idea. As the word liberal means freedom. And it is our right to stand up against an unjust government, the very administration that was elected through gerrymandering and voter suppression. Tell your conservative views to the 50 people who gathered to support trump on the steps and of the Los Angeles police department, i'll share my liberal views with the thousands of people who have been protesting Trump every weekend since the inauguration. People who work and still take the time to protest.

Well first off I rather doubt that this was THEIR idea. And by "elude " (it means "to escape, avoid"), were you trying to say "delude" - to fool someone? It does say that this is a "performance" of the Declaration; that's their JOB; it's what they do for a living. And by "sole steeling", is that an attempt to say "soul stealing"? That's poor English as well as spelling; it's poor grammatical organization, and the misspellings change the meanings entirely - making it nonsensical. So how is this supposed to steal anyone's soul, anyway? The words mean what they mean whoever is reading them! Personally I've always found this piece to be rather stirring whether it's simply read aloud or performed as it is here. There is no word "discusting" - I think you wanted "disgusting", nor is "inslaved" correct. I think you wanted "enslaved". Also, I believe "Saturn" is a proper noun, isn't it? SO how do you figure there's any Saturn worship here?? I also don't get your "the false idea of equality and slavery" - they are polar opposites. Next, I suppose the Declaration COULD BE considered a propaganda piece - but only by British royalists. Your phrase "voices of false security" makes no sense at all, and "opposite" is also misspelled. What these actors read is a declaration stating that the people of America have every right to expect treatment of them by the British Crown as the hard-working, honest people they are, with at LEAST entitlement to the basic human rights they listed and DEMANDED in this document! I agree with them, and I can't help but note that We the People of today are being shorted in those very same rights today by THIS government! I'm referring, of course, to the corporate fake of Washington D.C. Perhaps part of the problem is that the very same families that were running the British Crown back when this document was written are now running both the same "Royal Family" that was in charge back then AND the U.S. corporate D.C. "government" we're dealing with now. These spring from the same roots, the same greed, and the same sociopathy as it did then. Oh yes - and "ind" is, first, NOT a legitimate abbreviation for "Independence" and second, it's a damned lazy way to write! If you want to criticize someone's writing I strongly suggest that you first learn to write, yourself! Despite some hypocrisy by many of our Founders, Jefferson included and far from least among them, I've always considered this piece one of the most stirring examples of political prose ever written! I've no doubt it did a lot of their recruiting for them!

Pride that the founding fathers blood courses through our veins and shame that we have pissed away all that was earned in the most terrible of ways for us! What would these men say to us now if they stood before us? Would we respond the same way we do now after hearing these words all of our lives?
